We were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary along with my sister and brother-in-law who were also celebrating 20 years. We upgraded to the Royal Package when we made our initial reservation. Overall, a very lovely, quaint resort that is well maintained and has everything you need. Royal Package is highly recommended. Wonderful service by Francis at the Royal Pool. Great drinks, improved wine options and great coffee in the vintage lounge. The Spanish coffee is a must try! Rooms were large and clean, but very sparsely furnished and decorated. We went to the buffet each morning and lunch. Service was hit and miss, but the gentleman who was the egg man (Marco?) was amazing! There were always a nice selection at both breakfast and lunch. We ate at the Italian and International each evening, and they were generally quite good. It would be nice to have the Royal Package options for wine available at dinner. I took part in Pilates two of the mornings we were there and really enjoyed them. We also took the self-guided bike tour which was really fun as well. Beach was lovely and the service in the snack bar was great! Coffee shop does not serve real coffee. Only the push button machine variety you get in doctor's offices. Fortunately, great coffee is available in the Vintage Lounge. Overall, a lovely resort! My next comments are directed at management. This was a special occasion for the two couples that were travelling together. I had requested rooms that would be next door or in the same building by email and by facebook messenger. We arrived and my husband and I were in building 12 and my sister and her husband were in building 15. I expressed my disappointment, and the front desk recommended we check back the next day. The next day they would have been able to move my sister and husband to building 11. Unfortunately, they were unpacked and didn't want to unpack again. We travel to all-inclusive's at least two times per year so I am quite familiar with how guests requests go etc. I let the resort know what would make me happy: rooms near one another. I know this might appear to be a small inconvenience, but to say the least it was a big disappointment. I don't understand why a hotel would place guests that are on the same reservation at polar opposite locations of the resort? Or why they would force them to go through the 'check back at the front desk tomorrow' rigamarole, when they could have made me a very happy person to begin with my honouring my small request.

This was our first visit to this resort. We love Playa Dorada and the promise of an adults only quiet resort greatly appealed to us and we were not disappointed. We opted for the Royal upgrade and felt that it was well worth the money. We spent our days by the Vintage pool enjoying the quiet and the excellent service provided by Francis. We also appreciated that the rules about no boomboxes or bluetooth speakers were enforced. the Vintage Pool is for the exclusive use of those who have the Royal upgrade. Before dinner we enjoyed time in the Vintage Club, a benefit to those who have an upgrade (either Royal or Premium). Whether you want a capuccino, expresso, cup of tea, or one of the premium liquors, this is a lovely little oasis. During the day Solangi took great care of us, especially on the two very rainy days when we relaxed there instead of by the pool. In the evenings it was usually Luis who made sure that we had our wine before dinner and our nightcap afterward, ably assisted by Gersohn. We enjoyed dinner at the specialty restaurants, even though there are only two. We found the staff at both of them to be wonderful and very helpful. At the International - Jardin Victoria - Alina always welcomed us, and her staff carried the warmth of the welcome through the rest of the meal. At the Italian restaurant - Italiano Mozzarella - it was Rosa or Alejandro who greeted us, welcomed us and helped make it a challenge to decide which one to visit each evening. We enjoyed the buffet. Jennifer welcomed us with a smile - and hand sanitizer! Marcos cooked our eggs to perfection and was always smiling - looking as though he enjoyed his job, and the people he worked with. Levinton and his staff - Aldonza, Domingo, Edison, Freddy, and Martha gave us excellent friendly service, and kept the tea and hot water flowing. At lunch they made sure that our wine glasses were never empty - then followed up with our tea. We didn't often go to the buffet for dinner, but the service was equally excellent when we did. There was a wide and varied selection of dishes at each and every meal. And on those couple of rainy day? - Their smiles and service never faltered - even though the beach snack bar was closed - sending more people their way. Nelly looked after our room and made sure that we never lacked anything. She was friendly and smiling whenever we met up with her, and we looked forward to seeing her most days. The manager, Marisol?, was very visible and very friendly. She spoke to most of the guests as well as being on very obviously good terms with her staff. No doubt, the friendly happy people we encountered in our daily interactions with the staff in all aspects of this resort can be traced back to her relationship and treatment of them. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone who wants a lovely quiet vacation. this resort is not directly on the beach, but is surrounded by the golf course. The beach is just over a five minute walk away, but there are shuttles for those who do not (or cannot) walk the distance. My only reservation would be for someone with a serious mobility challenge. The specialty restaurants and the Vintage Club are upstairs, and we did not see any other means of access. I would also highly recommend getting the Royal upgrade. We had unlimited access to the specialty restaurants, enjoyed the premium alcohol which is only available through an upgrade, and the better wine choices. Our room was larger - a junior suite - and not far from the Vintage pool. The bathrooms need an upgrade, but that also meant that we had a bathtub/shower combo instead of only a shower, so it's a trade-off! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are certainly hoping to be able to return again next year.

Very nice place, very nice people. Food is good and the service is excellent. Clean rooms and clean common areas. Clean pool. My only issues (yes nothing is perfect) is the bars or should i say the lack of bars. they advertised 4 bars but only one other than the beach bar is open during the day. Not happy to have to sit on very uncomfortable steel mesh chairs in the sun by the pool. Beach bar, very dingy, dark place in a corner. Unless you're a "VIP" member, there isn't a nice place to have a drink.

This is a perfect resort if you're looking for a relaxing and quiet atmosphere. The staff is superbe, always smiling and ready to accommodate. The resort is clean, the food is good along with a good selection of eats. The coffee station is not good, I would even say it's horrible. This resort needs to invest in a barista who makes coffee such as espresso, cappuccino, lattes. The 2 restaurants are mediocre to say the least. Yoga and Pilates instructor Roxy is a gem. We stayed at this resort during the pandemic Covid19, many staff members were being terminated as the days went by. Very unfortunate situation for all. The beach is walking distance (5min). It does have an eating area (small buffet) and a bar where the staff is extraordinary.

We went to POP VH Atmosphere for two weeks (the first two weeks of March 2020). We were not disappointed. The room was clean in all aspects. The food at the buffet "Largo" fresh, a lot of choices. The staff ot the buffet extremely helpful. I have to mention some of the staff members who went out of their way to please the guests. Carlos, Alexander, Freddy, Edison, Jennifer, sorry I do not remember all the names. The beach is beautiful lots of chairs sun and shade. If you go there take a city tour, it is worth it. I have to mention the staff of the front desk. Mawandy, Martha, Hector... very helpful and professional. Marisol the general manager is visible, easy to talk to and will address any concern you might have. In conclusion a time well spent. We will definitely go back once this corona virus situation clears up.

My husband and I had been planning this trip since August. We stayed at the hotel from February 29 - March 7. We were staying to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. I am a Travel Agent, and made the booking myself, and noted our file with the anniversary info. My husband took it upon himself to TRY to plan something with the hotel. He started emailing the hotel in January, and got a few responses that said he had to wait until we arrived at the hotel. We arrived, and got to our room, and noticed there was info in our room that stated the hotel could do something special for all occasions, birthdays, anniversaries, special dinners, etc. That was great news! He was still trying to surprise me, so he went to reception on his own to try and figure something out. He came back over an hour later, extremely frustrated. Each person kept making him talk to someone else, and finally the last person said 'come back tomorrow'. So he went back the next day. I should also add, he wasn't looking for something for free, he was willing to pay for something nice. This is now the day prior to our anniversary, and he was trying to get some flowers in the room and a nice private dinner. Both items that are listed on their little brochure as something that is offered. The only thing they said they could do was a lobster dinner for US$150.00 per person. The price was no issue, but neither of us eat lobster, so this didn't make sense. Finally, we just decided to make a reservation at Mozzarella (outdoor a la carte) for our Anniversary night. The person my husband spoke with apparently 'made a note' on the reservation that we would get a special table, and some nice flowers on the table. Our Anniversary arrived, and housekeeping provided the balloons in the room, and the 'Happy Anniversary' banner on the door (I believe this is from the note I added to our reservation at time of booking). Our anniversary day was the second day of intense rains, so the dining at Mozzarella had been moved inside to the lounge where the pool table, etc is. Obviously this is no fault of the hotel, and i appreciate the effort made so people could still enjoy dinner. However, we arrived for what was supposed to be our special dinner, and we were allocated the WORST table. The pool table behind us (with people playing pool), and other guests sitting at the tables playing cards, drinking, etc as it was raining outside and not much else to do. It would have been nice after everything we tried to do to make this night special to at least get a quiet table by the window (of which there were two available). We asked both the server, and the man who appeared to be a manager or supervisor if we could move to a quieter table, and both just smiled and said to enjoy our dinner. Was an extremely disappointing experience. The food was also terrible, and all was cold or room temperature when it arrived. Another disappointment came on our check out day, when we were waiting in the lobby for our transfer ... a local florist arrived with several bouquets of roses, and what appeared to be a bag a rose petals ... exactly what my husband had been trying to request - and willing to pay for. Clearly it was possible. Now that rant is over, here is my actual review of the hotel. Check-in: Check in was fine. They offer you a welcome drink. We arrived after 3pm so our room was ready, and we were immediately taken to our room with our luggage. We were in building 14 (room 1402) which is right beside the Royal Pool (we had the Royal upgrade). Royal Upgrade: We booked the Junior Suite with Royal Upgrade. Our room looked out to the golf course, and you could also see the Royal pool from our room. For us personally, we thought the upgrade was worth it. It rained for half of our week there, so we spent quite a lot of time in the Vintage Lounge throughout these days. The Vintage/Royal section at the beach was never busy on the days we went when it wasn't raining. However the bartenders never actually came to the section for drink orders. We were there for several hours at a time, and never saw a bartender once. This isn't a big deal to us, we just went to the bar ourselves, but if it sold as a feature, it should be offered. The Vintage/Royal pool was always busy. On the second day, I realized why. There were a few couples that would reserve 4 loungers for 2 people ... 2 in the sun and 2 in the shade, so they could move back and forth as they pleased. So this made it very tough to get loungers. As a lot of other reviews mention, Francis is incredible. A true asset to this hotel. He was always on top of it making sure you had a drink when wanted, but wasn't invasive. Apparently people who have the Royal upgrade are supposed to receive a gift in their room during their stay (aside from the fruit plate on arrival - which we did receive). We didn't receive anything additional. Room: As mentioned, we had a Junior Suite with a view of the golf course. The rooms are pretty basic, but have most of what you need. The rooms are unnecessarily large - there seems to be a lot of wasted space. There is a closet room that has a few shelves and a few hangers (if you want to hang things, I recommend bringing hangers, as there certainly isn't enough for two people to hang things). This room also has the safe in it. There is a strange little kitchenette type room that has a fridge, some counter space and a sink. We didn't use this area at all except to utilize the counter space to spread out wet clothes, towels and bathing suits as there is not near enough space to hang items to dry (1 hook in the bathroom, and a short clothes line in the bathtub area). The sleeping area is large, and as we had a King bed, there is a lot of empty unused floor space. There are 2 smaller armchairs with a small table, and a wardrobe with 4 drawers and 2 cupboards. Barely enough storage space for 2 people to unpack for a week. With the empty floor space, i think a nice chaise lounger type thing would work very well in that empty space. Just my opinion. This is the first time in a long time that I have been to an all inclusive resort that had an 'all in one' bathroom. There isn't a separate water closet for the toilet, which makes getting ready a little challenging. Also, a full length mirror would be something to consider to add. As we were on the ground level, we had a terrace. The balconies and the terraces are basically useless when it is raining as they are completely uncovered. It would have been lovely to be able to sit out side on the evenings we had rain, however since it was uncovered, we weren't able to. Our first night we heard very loud music from the people next to us, but after that, we didn't hear anything from beside or above us. Room cleaning was decent. When we checked in, we walked in and could see many shards of glass on the floor (someone had obviously broke a glass or a bottle). These weren't only in areas that might be hard to reach (under a chair, etc), but in the middle of the floor. We were still finding glass through our final day, so the room hadn't been thoroughly swept between guests checking in, nor the entire time we were there. Other than that, towels were replaced when needed and everything else was fine. Restaurants: With the exception of one meal, we ate all meals in the buffet. And actually, I know my review seems quite negative, but the buffet is the saving grace for this hotel. The food is good. There are limited options, but the food is always hot and there was never a meal that we didn't leave satisfied. The pasta bar is fantastic, and I utilized that almost every lunch and dinner. The carving station always had two options, usually a 'meat' (turkey, pork, beef, etc) and a fish. At lunch on most days they were also cooking burgers as well. As for the a la carte restaurants, well, that was totally different. We didn't try the gourmet restaurant as the menu didn't really appeal to us, and we talked to a few others who said the food and the service were terrible. As discussed above, we did visit Mozzarella. The food was cold, or room temperature, and not very good. They serve a little amuse bouche to everyone, and when it arrived it wasn't explained what it was, so I had a bite, and it was very clearly a fried fish. So we asked what it was, and the server said 'chicken'. It was definitely not. I ate mine as I like fish, but my husband doesn't, so he left his. However, this could cause big issues for people with allergies to fish! I had the gnocchi and the chicken parm. The gnocchi actually tasted alright, but it was stone cold when it arrived. The chicken parm was room temp, and not good. Miscellaneous: Coffee shop - my husband got coffee here a few times, and everything was good. Service was good. Nice little asset to this resort. Main Pool - we never used the main pool as we had access to the Royal Pool, but whenever we walked past it was always busy, with no empty lounges in sight. They had music playing, and the atmosphere seemed good. Beach - the beach is about a 5 minute walk (at most) from the hotel. We took the shuttle (6 person golf cart) the first time, just to be sure we knew where we were going, but walked after that. The shuttle is certainly a great idea, and I did see quite a few people utilizing it. The beach itself is great. The water was quite rough when we were there due to all the rain, but great views, and very clean. There are vendors around, and quite a lot of them, but for the most part if you say no thank you they won't bother you. My husband got a leg massage from a lady and he enjoyed it. He paid 1000 pesos for about 30 minutes. We didn't actually try the beach restaurant, which I regret as I heard it was quite good. Grounds - The grounds of the are very well kept. There are always people out tidying and maintaining things, especially after the 3 days of solid heavy rains, people were out in full force cleaning up branches, tidying flower beds, etc. Umbrellas - A strange category yes, but if you are there during rainy season - necessary! All rooms require you to walk outside to get to the restaurants. There is a shuttle that you can call to come to your room and get you, but we were pretty close to the main building so we never used this. We brought one umbrella, but it became clear we needed another. The hotel has large golf umbrellas that you can 'sign out' from reception. They don't have enough for everyone, so if rain is in the forecast, I suggest getting one when you check in. Shop - there is a little shop in the lobby, but I never once saw anyone working in there. We needed toothpaste, so we just walked to the Playa Dorada Mall (walk across the bridge on resort leave the hotel grounds, turn left and walk about 5 minutes). There are many little shops in there, mostly souvenir, but there is also a shop that sells many toiletries for very reasonable prices (we got a travel size toothpaste for 50 pesos. ) Service - service in general at this hotel is ok. There seems to be a significant language barrier with some of the staff that you would expect to speak some English. Tipping didn't really seem to make a difference in the service you received. We would tip a few dollars at every meal in the buffet, but most nights, we never got the drinks we ordered, even after having our water filled, and asking again for the drinks. I absolutely understand they are super busy and doing their best. I am simply stating what we experienced. Entertainment - we didn't use the main pool, so I can't comment on the day time entertainment there. We went to one of the evening shows (Musical trivia), and while we didn't participate, it was entertaining. Summary: I certainly wouldn't rate this hotel 4, 4.5 or 5 star (I have seen it rated all 3 depending on the website you are looking at). A solid 3 star though. The food in the buffet saves it. As a travel agent, I would not recommend this hotel to my clients or my colleagues, but I understand that everything comes down to preference. My husband and I seem to be in the minority in not loving this hotel. I would return to Puerto Plata, but not this hotel.

VH Atmosphere is a beautiful facility with exceptionally friendly staff. The food choices are wonderful and the food was always hot. It was easy to get into the a la carte restaurants The gardens and infinity pool and grounds are very pretty. The rooms are clean and a good size but do not feel warm or welcoming. It is a lovely easy walk to the most beautiful beach. If you are going for the beach, I highly recommend this place. At the beach there are always lounge chairs available and lunch is served in a great location. Drinks are delicious and the bartenders will accommodate how you want them made. The staff at this bar were particularly friendly. The sister hotel Majestic Colonial and spa is spectacular. You get a 15% off for a meal there which I highly recommend. This is a very quiet adult only all inclusive. If you are looking for wild parties, this is not the place to go. If you want a serene beautiful all inclusive you have found your place to stay.
