This hotel completely did not respond to messages or emails, and I had to call them long-distance to arrange my airport transfer, which cost more than double what an Uber did. Check-in took 30 minutes, which is unacceptable, and the insistence that the bill be paid in cash when they had a card-reader smelled of untoward behavior.
The location is safe, but was super loud at night due to proximity to night clubs. My ears were ringing. I would not recommend a stay here unless poor service and partying in the historic colonial zone are priorities.

After my first night as I was walking down to breakfast the staff asked if I would like my room cleaned. I said yes. And I saw the maid cleaning and replacing other rooms. So it's not a lack of desire to please, just a lack of execution. When I walked back into my room the cigarette ash was wiped off the head board from the previous night but i found it on the bed sheet. The room also has a smell of sewer in this one spot. It's not in the bathroom but in the area between the bathroom and entrance door. I think it comes from the AC unit but not sure, anyhow the smell though strong for some reason only lingered in one area.
The room itself was very cozy. The AC strong. A balcony that fit two chairs and a table. It's located on a quiet street but still just a minute from the central square. I actually had a good night's rest were it not for the dirty pillow case and floor. If you're looking for a quiet place to sleep for one night in a good location and dont mind the dirtiness factor I would recommend. But anything after one night I can't recommend.
PROS: the staff. They are very friendly and helpful. Between our English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole they really made the place a great choice!! Breakfast was included and the food was very good. It was simple yet the staff were more than happy to try to accommodate special requests with eggs or juices. The location - easy starting point for the colonial zone and beyond. Go and explore the surroundings, so much is the general area alone. We loved the room decor and color schemes (you are in the Caribbean!). We had a little veranda that we did not use much, however it was nice to have. The seating area on the second floor is nice when one does not want to hang out in their room (which is fine too).
CONS: none really realizing that we were staying in an old building/location full of history in the colonial zone. That said, some rooms could be small and climbing the stairs in the rain with suitcases is not fun. Internet was slow in the room for our friend but there was a computer downstairs. There is construction going on around/next door so that could be annoying in the mornings (this won't be forever, just bad timing).
OVERALL -- this is an awesome place to stay. This is not the Hilton or even claims to be, so with that in mind you will truly enjoy yourself. None of the negatives took away from a nice room and great stay. We stayed two nights and look forward to staying here some more.
As this is not the 5 star hotel the rooms are not soundproof but this didnt bother us at all
I cannot say it is a bad place....location is OK, breakfast is simple, but OK. It was clean.
What I love about it was people that work there....All of them treated us in an amazing way...the moment they realized I was Brazilian, "all the doors were open to me"....They LOVE Brazilians...Thank God!!! They did everything to help us finding taxis, explaining things, improvising city maps and even preparing an earlier breakfast for us to have something before travelling.
For the price, it was OK....I guess my problem was comparing it to other Boutique hotels I have stayed all over the world...maybe I made a mistake by creating high expectations and at the end is my fault! They are redoing the hotel road and many others in the area,,,,this for sure created some problems,,,but, soon that will be over.
All the staff is from Haiti and they told us the owners are French people that travel back and forth.
We stopped there on our way to Punta Cana....so, it was one night only.
A hint that might help those who want to travel from Santo Domingo to Punta Cana and vice versa,,,they have a bus Expresso Bavaro...comfortable in spite of the air conditioner being set too cold (14C), which created some discomfort during the 3 hours trip, since we were all in shorts and tops... Roads are very good and it cost only $10 per person!
