Our group stayed here recently after a hard week of work and found every good thing in prior reviews to be true. The entire place is gorgeous. After staying other places that were also nice, we found this place to be surprisingly quiet in spite of being located in such a convenient, busy area. We hope to stay there again.
El Beaterio is well located in the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo - All historic and shopping sites within easy walk. Hotel is small, 11 rooms, very clean with A/C in rooms and modern bathrooms. Comfy beds. This is a 500 year old building in beautiful repair with an airy courtyard and lovely rooftop terrace overlooking the castle-like building across the street. The common rooms have beautiful tile floors, classic art deco furniture and comfortable dining space for the breakfast. Breakfast was cook to order eggs/omeletes, nice fruit and yogurt choices, excellent coffee au lait. Room has 12 foot ceilings, beams and you can see the tiles between. Our room had a double door leading to the courtyard, with frosted glass in the door (and wood shutters for light control), as well as a window and fan in the bathroom. Simply furnished with an iron king bed, small desk and chair, bedside tables and wardrobe. Stone floor and plenty of space to walk around, so while it wasn't huge, it felt roomy and airy. THe staff were very very nice, some spoke good English (we, alas, have no spanish beyond please and thank you). It was a comfortable and pleasant place to stay. Highly recommend.…
The El Beaterio is a fantastically unique and beautiful place with a remarkable old-world feel. The staff are excellent. The location on Parque Duarte is really nice and very convenient. You are a few short blocks from the very center of the Zona Colonial. The breakfasts are ample and the roof terrace is a wonderful place to start the day with coffee or end the evening with the Caribbean breeze. It offers a partial view of Parque Duarte and on Saturday nights this park is quite lively!! Parking is difficult but possible. The hotel is a little difficult to find on a narrow street with small signage, but this only adds to its mystique. Wonderful experience and will return next time in Santo Domingo, hands down.
A time traveling experience with the best attention from their staff. Always willing to help, with a smile on top! The breakfast is included, which gets you ready for a nice walk thru the pleasant Colonial Zone.
$100 dollars a night in the Dominican Republic is very expensive for a room. You expect good air conditioning. Yet, they knowingly put me in a room with an air conditioner that did not cool. They were very accommodating for the second night and gave me a room with good a/c. However, they gave the room with the old, nonfunctional a/c to another arriving guest.
