I liked the location. The staff was really helpful, nice and attentive. The hotel was very clean and relatively safe. If you don't want to stay in the Zona Colonial but want to be close to it all, this hotel is for you. Good and inexpensive restaurants very close by.

This is a locally owned small hotel(about 30 rooms) which is excellent for those who do not wish to spends tons of money on hotel rooms. The Duque is clean, safe and has basic amenities like Wifi, a generator, a small restaurant and cable. The location is in an upcoming neighborhood with all services in short walking distance. This hotel is very nice, in a very residential area of SD called Gazcue. The area can be a little rough at night and it didn't appear to be a gay hotel as it supposedly once was. Nor did I think the food at the Italian restaurant was good. Also the floors were relatively dirty. I put my feet on...

This hotel is situated between the big hotels in "malecon" area, in fact the sea path floor is just far two minutes by walk, where there is also a kids play area so good for family. Pros:Location,Location,location..Meters from El malecon.,close to casco historico..exelente Italian restaurant inside .named Pasta & Algo mas wich means Pasta and something else.Cheaper price,italian food and Dominican food as well..Beer,wine .Even Hotel and restaurant owner Mr.Baldi greet U at the restaurant . Jimmi the best waiter ever.. I also recommend just outside of the hotel and in the left corner REST Hermanos...

This was my first stay at the Duque Wellington,December 29th 2010 -Jan 5th 2011,but not my first visit to santo Domingo..I was plesantly surprised due to the high level of service I recieved from the time of booking the hotel,Ramon a manager was a delight to work with and very professional ..they arrange a car pickup at the airport(not included...

To compare the three story Hotel Duque de Wellington to other hotels in the 'Malecon' (eg: Jiragua, Hilton, International) would be a disservice, as it is in a class by itself -- 'apart-hotel' would be more appropriate.
