We were in town for business and our one day off we managed to go see some local sights. The kind lady at the front desk (Liana A) recommended an excellent and reliable (not to mention well priced) service which included a safe, clean car service and very knowledgeable guide around the Tres Ojos Lakes. We couldn't have been happier with our experience - Thank you Liana!

This hotel is a diamond in the rough. That's not to speak ill of Santo Domingo, it's a beautiful city with a rich history and culture, I mean a diamond in the rough of overpriced "4 and 5 star hotels" that don't give you the bang for the buck. Let's start with the service. The hotel staff is very accommodating and provides excellent service. They made exceptions as needed, provided extra towels, wash cloths, blankets, etc. The room service was fantastic. You get a wheeled in dinner table where the sides come up with cloth and food kept underneath in a warmed container, and the food is exquisite. Next there's the rooms themselves. I've never seen so much creativity poured into a room. It makes amazing use of the space. You've got lights in the headboard that can be brought out and directed, colorful chandelier like lights, an automatic curtain for the bathroom, a tub with a very well designed color fitting pad on each side, a walk in shower where the floor is perfectly leveled and doesn't have to come to high, it would work for wheel chair access even, efficient toilets, sliding glass doors for the main portion of bathroom and closet space, and a pretty nice view. I've been to hotels throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia and I have yet to see one make this good use of space. Then it has a nice pool area, Spa, a gym (with what looks to be the prototype for those visual video mirrors with resistance weights in that it's a mirror that lets you check your form, and overall it was an incredible stay. I would highly recommend it. Compliments to Liana who handed me the card for trip advisor for her service as well. I did not catch her managers name but she's great as well and one of several fluent english speakers. Oh and the passion fruit juice is a must. Finally I'm sure I'm leaving out a ton of good things I can't think of like the relaxing Ambassador's suite you'll have access to, the thorough cleaning and buttons to call for it, the delightful restaurants herein and the overall relaxing atmosphere and noise canceling nature of the rooms but the only warning I will give is make sure you bring the credit card you purchased the trip with. It's in the contract to stay here and they'll work with you if you forget but it will save time and make everyone's job easier up-front if you bring it. Hope this is helpful.

I recently spent 3 nights at the El Embajador hotel and I was very pleased overall. The hotel is an iconic building that was built in the mid 1950's and still maintains some of that lovely mid-century glamorous look--particularly in the lobby. The rooms have been recently remodeled and are beautiful--very nice bedding, in-room tubs (separate from shower) for great bubble bath relaxation time! I loved the Italian toiletries that the hotel uses--Aqua di Parma--very high end and luxurious. Air conditioning worked great which is very important to me. Gardens and pool area are also gorgeous and lush--I wish I was there right now still! Everything was immaculately clean which is also essential. Towels are a bit thin and scratchy--not up to par for a five star hotel. Only one of the two restaurants is currently open which is too bad--the food at Porches restaurant is kind of mediocre so that's also an area for improvement--you may want to look for eating off site for better meals. Lastly, I did have to take away one star from my rating because El Embajador lists itself as a "VIP Hotel" with Expedia and Orbitz--I'm a Platinum Orbitz member but nothing was mentioned about this at the hotel--no room upgrade, nothing--so basically that designation in Orbitz/Expedia should be removed if it's not going to be honored. If that could be taken care of it would be a solid five out of five stars for me.
