Detailed Reviews
We stayed three nights here on a recent trip. As other TA reviewers had warned, the not-so-friendly lady at reception assigned us a room on the ground floor, just off the reception area. The room was small and dark, and would have frequent foot traffic going by. We asked for a different room, but was told there weren't any, but when she saw we weren't going to accept the room offered, said we could look at another room. This was a room at the top of several flights of stone stairs at the back of the hotel, but was larger and had two windows, so we took it. The two windows gave lots of natural light and being at the back, was very quiet. However, the room was sparsely furnished with just one chair and small table in addition to the bed. No bottled or purified water is supplied, but there's a mini-fridge, so buy water at the nearby supermarket (less than a 5 minute walk away). The fellow who "helped" with the bags was grumpy that he had to climb the stairs, even though he only carried the largest bag while we carried our remaining bags. We still tipped him. Because we had other friends arriving to stay at the hotel later, we saw that the hotel has a warren of rooms of different sizes and quality, and some were more modern and better furnished, grouped around larger more attractive courtyards, and with elevator access. Perhaps request in advance one of these rooms, and don't accept small dark noisy rooms on the ground floor.

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights during our visit to the Zone Colonial, the hotel was just ok but for the price it was fine, we only paid US$70 per night for a huge room with a queen size bed. The staff were very nice, friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was included, we went the first morning but it wasn’t of interest even though there were scrambled eggs, fried bologna, potatoes, fruit, cereal, toast, coffee and tea, the toaster was a waffle maker, lol - it sounds better than it looked, lol.
The next time we visit the Zone Colonial we will increase the budget somewhat and hopefully stay at the Hodelpa Nicolas de Ovando. When we were in the Zone Colonial we looked at rooms at this hotel that were very nice for double the money but the hotel is first class and beautiful. It depends on what you want and when you are staying. I originally was going to book at the Hodelpa Nicolas de Ovando but when it came time to book the hotel the rate went from a very reasonable US$110 to an over budget US$170 per night.

The stay was very unpleasant the location great area across from supermarket and on the strip in colonial zone.
however for the dates 10/06 thru 10/09 the television was down the complete time and the front desk kept stating that they has someone working on the issue. but spoke with another guest who stated that it has been out for a month. Behind the hotel they were jack hammering the street from about 730am until 6pm at night. The breakfast was so very limited I only ate the pineapple the workers in the restaurant didn't speak any English at all I just asked for a take away box. The internet was extremely slow the safe in the hotel unable to add a code to lock important papers. The room had a refrigerator but no microwave. They shutdown the lobby and lock they iron gates at about 11pm every night just became difficult leaving and returning. In the morning the staff and very loud with conversations at 8am that carried down the hall and in to the rooms unable to rest during the day time. The bar in the lobby was never staffed and air conditioning went out in lobby and bar went out the second day there extremely hot in lobby and bar area. Again the roof top pool was not open yet again. I dont think I will book this location again on my next trip at all.

The colonial infrastructure of the hotel is beautiful, but it lacks maintenance. The pool and its surroundings are not usable due to lack of hygiene, both in the worn and dirty floor and in the old and broken lounge chairs. Breakfast is mediocre. When we arrived we found cups with lipstick that we separated from the rest. By doing so to save the other passengers a bad time, the staff got upset with us. The bar doesn't have a bartender and they don't know how to serve. The bathroom furniture was dirty and old, they don't close the furniture. Towels were missing, which they later replaced. There were burnt bulbs that we complained about and they did not change them. The only positive factor is the location of the hotel, which allows you to walk to different historical places.

The room was huge. The safe needed to be bolted to something. I made my complaint, nevertheless, they kept me in the same room. You have to go to the lobby for ice and ask for it. Included breakfast was decent for the price. Location is in the heart of Parque Colón. They charge a fee per guest per night after 10PM.

When you have to wait one hour for a plate of linguine you know something is off. I also asked for olive oil with my bread and got either light olive oil aka clear white and no flavor or soy oil. I asked for butter and got margarine. Mostly though, this is a dark hot mosquito ridden atmosphere, the restaurant is like a dingy green diner with fluorescent lights, there is a smoking patio between that and the bar, and the bar is equally hot with a cold atmosphere. My soup and pasta were brought to me covered in Saran Wrap with the look and feel of having been recently in a microwave. Even a little bowl of Parmesan cheese came wrapped in plastic. For 155.00USD the cheapest deal if I didn’t want a smoking room (which they are currently advertising on some sites for 79.00 and some at 50.00) I expect a little more. Tasteful service, food that doesn’t come in Saran Wrap- gross!!! And a comfortable place to eat an expensive dinner. There are so many nice hotels in Santo Domingo please consider carefully before you pick this one.

I have just returned from a 4 night stay at the hotel. Originally this was planned for Easter but some issues meant it had to be postponed, too late to get a free cancelation, however the hotel agreed to move our dates so all good.
The rooms are clean and smart. Plenty of space. The bathroom very large, just took a few minutes for the hot water to get to the room.
AC was very good and the room had a fridge as well as extra pillows and blankets.
There is a roof top pool which is very nice to relax in.
Breakfast was served in a little courtyard and my only complaint was there was no toaster, just a waffle machine. However, a reasonable selection available for breakfast.
Parking is secure and easy to access.
The hotel is a 30 second walk from the shopping street and a Nacional Supermarket.
5mins from the main restaurant area.
All in all, a good hotel in a good location.

I was searching for a good family hotel in Santo Domingo for a few nights and came upon this one. The reviews were fairly positive and I couldn't be more pleased with my choice. It's located right in the middle of Ciudad Viejo and within very short walking distance of a supermarket and cafeteria. This hotel is absolutely beautiful and I really loved the outdoor courtyards. The buffet breakfast was very decent also; coffee was on point.
The only issues I encountered were a broken TV and ac unit. When I reported it to hotel, I was moved to another room. Other than that, I have no complaints. I would definitely recommend this hotels to others and stay here again.

Perfect location, just a few steps to Colonial District attractions, shops, pedestrian area.
Lovely colonial style building, with gardens and roof pool.
Pretty comfy huge room and bathroom, daily cleaned (unfortunately with no good gsm signal in the room ) and fresh tasty buffet breakfast served in the hotel restaurant /garden.
In other world, absolutely suggested it.

We had scheduled a trip in the middle of the Covid-19 Pandemic and had to cancel our reservation. Despite having to book during a busy week that made our reservation non-refundable the hotel has refunded our deposit. We are very thankful and will definitely return some day.
