Pietermaai District, once the area of the Curacao well-to-do, has undergone a huge make-over after a long period of neglect and abatement. However, the last 2 years Pietermaai District is working hard to be the new 'Quartier Latin' of Curacao. The colorful Pietermaai Apartments are located in the historical neighborhood of Pietermaai District in Willemstad. The apartments are divided from the sea by a narrow road. The center of Willemstad is only 500 meters away. Just like the neighborhoods Punda, Otrabanda, several clubs, shops, restaurants and cinemas. The well-known Cabana Beach is 4 km. away.

Pietermaai Boutique Hotel is often commended for its attentive service, with staff earning praise for their helpfulness and efficient coordination of dining and transport. The hotel's location is a major draw, nestled close to attractions and vibrant nightlife, while also offering a cozy and lively atmosphere that guests enjoy. Though opinions are mixed regarding the rooms, with some finding them spacious and others pointing out maintenance issues, the overall cleanliness of the hotel is well-regarded. Despite some concerns over the size of the pools and the level of amenities for its class, many travelers consider the hotel to provide good value for their money.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this unique hotel. The spacious heritage loft room was stylish and comfortable, the a la carte breakfast superb but most of all the Thursday night Curacao drink and eat tour showed us what is special about this colourful town and it’s regional cuisine and drinks. Our guide was informative and magically included our Wishlist of sights within the tour all for $15USD!

Dear glaurasusan20, Thank you for this beautiful review! We are more than happy you have enjoyed your time with us. Good to hear you loved the style of the room and the breakfast. Also very nice to hear that the pietermaai vibes event was such a success. In this way you have just experienced another piece of curacao. Thank you for staying with us! I gave an extra star due to how happy we were with the penthouse suite but I still struggled to award it.
To start we had one of the standard rooms first that overlooked Ginger, the restaurant. We found the room to be depressing with a design that should not allowed to be boutique hotel room, not even for a hostel. Even the staircase to the upstairs was so small that it was difficult to navigate. In their defense, I think we just got their absolute worst room due to how late we checked in as I cannot see an accurate picture of it online anywhere. The toilet and shower in this room are without doors and are directly behind your head where you sleep. This may be acceptable for a hostel or a frat-house but not for a boutique hotel. The shower was not well lit and when we saw it under a bright light, it was disgusting and clearly not thoroughly cleaned in some time. I couldn't help but feel that the pictures did not really give you a sense of what we were signing up for and the disparity of the best room from the worst was not what you would expect. After 1 night we immediately decided to upgrade to the penthouse suite for the rest of our stay. For a very reasonable amount of additional money per day, it is amazing what a difference we received from the 1st room. I wish we had booked this room from the start but from the pics online, you get a sense that you were safe regardless of what you chose.
The penthouse suite overlooked the ocean, had 2 bedrooms each with bathrooms and a large kitchen and living room area. Unfortunately they could not give us this room for our entire intended stay so we were forced to leave Curacao a day early. They refunded us half of our prior room rate, which to me was not appropriate given the circumstances that we upgraded and we were unhappy with the prior room without making big deal over it, but I guess we just have to agree to disagree. Their defense is that we agreed to a no-refund policy but I also didn't know I was signing up for a sad, poorly kept room that was not accurately represented on the website. Even the penthouse suite was in need of some attention. It just lacked the finer details and TLC that could have put the experience over the top. This property greatly benefit from the eyes of an outside consultant. In fairness, the penthouse suite price was a great value when all considered.
Ginger restaurant was average. The breakfast was decent but we did not find lunch or dinner to be anything special. Mostly bland and lacked with struggling but friendly service.

Dear sneakyright, Thank you for taking the time to write your review, we appreciate your feedback and take this very seriously. First of all, we are happy to hear that you enjoyed your time in our Penthouse Suite and found the suite and its ocean view amazing. Unfortunately, indeed we did not have the availability to offer you this suite until your last day. We regret that the room you booked with us initially did not meet your expectations. We discussed your feedback internally and have taken action on it as well. We hope that despite the night in the room you did not like, you had a wonderful stay with us in the Penthouse Suite and on our beautiful island in general. Kind regards, Team Pietermaai Boutique Hotel

First I want to start by the positive points for this property: clean and nice pool, with cozy and small garden around, friendly staff and stable and good speed internet and located close to many bars/restaurants.
Second, I need to question whether this hotel could be considered a boutique hotel.
The definition is: A boutique hotel is a smaller, upscale, luxury hotel that offers a distinct personality, intimate experience, and personalized service. They tend to be located in trendy neighbourhoods in large cities, have luxury amenities, and unique, modern design throughout the hotel and individual rooms.
The part that mentioned “intimate and personalized experience” is far to be reached by Pietermaai.
Points for improvement:
food: breakfast is rather poor in options, the coffee machine was not working for the whole period of my stay, and staff did not care to offer any option. Barely some healthy options and salad fruit was always with overripe fruits. A 3rd party is running the breakfast for them, so they should consider changing.
Communication: I had to checkout earlier than someone was available at frontdesk. Although there is a WhatsApp chat, after many calls to the provided number, I had to leave the key in the breakfast restaurant hoping everything would be fine.
Location: although is easy to reach restaurants, the area is super noisy, a lot of rooms are reachable by the street with the back of restaurants, and because of that you won’t be able to sleep before 1am. Also, I had the unpleasant presence of cockroaches everyday in my room, and had to request some poison to kill them. Impossible to avoid it, because trash bins from the restaurants are placed on the same street to reach the rooms.
Bed: definitely need some upgrade, mattress was so hard that I woke up with pain in my back.
Housekeeping kept forgetting to leave towels.
Private parking is only 5 spots, so, always busy and you have to find a spot in the street, although I was lucky to always find one.
Hope that my review can help you to choose it or not and the hotel to take it as a way to look into improvements.

Dear Z4233UMgabrielaf, Thank you for taking the time to write your review. First of all, we are happy to hear that you enjoyed the location of our hotel in the middle of the Pietermaai area, our pools and tropical gardens, and the service of our staff. As we are located in the city close to restaurants and bars, there indeed is a chance you will hear some noises at night. We regret to hear that you did not experience our personal service. However, thank you for your feedback on the breakfast, communication, and bed in the room, we will definitely take those improvement points into consideration. We stayed here for two weeks and loved our accommodation. We opted for a large room with the bed on a mezzanine floor and a sitting room and kitchenette beneath. Stylish and comfortable, fab bathroom, large and comfy bed.
The hotel staff are very helpful and friendly and the room is serviced every day to a very high standard.
Ideally located to explore beautiful Pietermiaa on foot. We ate in a different restaurant most nights as well as preparing simple meals in our room.
There is a beach at a large hotel (Avila) within walking distance - you pay a fee to use the beach and the sun loungers etc.
we hired a car to explore the island and went to lots of different beaches - the island isn’t difficult to navigate.
I’d thoroughly recommend staying at this hotel.

If you are looking for an “amenity-rich”, “exclusive”, “four star boutique hotel” (as advertised online), this is not it. The way this hotel is marketed is misleading and simply false. Here is why:

• If you book the “split-level suite”, you will likely be placed in a room where the toilet is next to the bed without a door. The room is small, and only has AC at the top level, which leaves the bottom feeling damp and hot. The tiny sink is in front of a window, with no space for toiletries and no mirror. No proper wardrobe for your clothes and personal items. The room where the photos were taken is only 1 room in the hotel, the rest are rooms as described above.
• The mattresses are old and uncomfortable; you will feel the springs in your back all night, and after multiple nights your back will feel terrible. The linen is old; plenty of tears and stains.
• No toiletries whatsoever; you get 1 pump with cheap soap in the shower. No handsoap, 1-ply toilet paper, and no extra bathroom necessities such as vanity kits etc. (which is standard in 4 star hotels). We had to buy this ourselves.
• The bathroom is extremely dirty and grimy, see photos attached. It smells like mould and sewage. After complaining twice we received a “thorough cleaning”, but there were still plenty stains on the walls and floors. For one of us, this led to a face rash every time we took a shower and used the towels.
• No curtains, only wooden slats in front of the window that don’t fully close. This means the room won’t be dark once the sun comes up in the morning.
• The sinks in the kitchenette and bathroom don’t have hot water, only cold.

The list of reasons why is this is NOT a luxury, 4 star hotel is endless. I am very happy we did not see any cockroaches, which apparently are present in a few rooms.
This hotel is far below the quality standard they advertise. If you are expecting a 4 star luxury experience, you will not receive it at the Pietermaai Boutique Hotel.

NOTE: The hotel has offered us a 25% refund after asking for compensation, which was appreciated. However, this does not change our experience, and we still feel we need to share our honest opinion with future travellers.

Our room in this boutique hotel was modestly appointed and clean. We had a small kitchenette, which we used for breakfast and coffee. We sat outside on the small patio, but the chairs were pretty uncomfortable. The hotel is set in the restaurant district, and there are some wonderful places to eat. We had a downstairs living area and an upstairs bedroom - the staircase going up to the bedroom was extremely narrow, which wasn't awful but wasn't as big as the pictures showed. We were right across the alley from Ginger, a great restaurant with live music. We were unable to sleep because the music was loud until midnight. Street noise after midnight was considerable. This really diminished our view of the location. In addition, our bedroom was right next to the toilet, and the room ended up smelling like a sewer at night, which also made it hard to sleep. Staff were very responsive and addressed the smell while we were out and about. They also helped arrange transportation and were very knowledgeable about beaches, restaurants, museums, rental cars, etc. We enjoyed being in Willemstad rather than at a beach resort, but we wouldn't stay here again because of the noise.

When I went to breakfast I was told that I would have to pay and that breakfast was not included in my room rate. Trust in the morning tired of this and pay $15. The breakfast was very mediocre and didn't last long. Opted to have breakfast elsewhere where I felt I was getting value for money. Emailed the hotel that I HAD BREAKFAST IN THE PRICE
Strange that they didn't know I had complimentry breakfast via online booking you get it
Terrible attitude that I would have to send proof when they could easily see this in my booking send proof that is my booking thought that now it would be out of the world now I have to send more proof that I have paid $15 Now the hotel does not want to refund my breakfast but only the $15 I had paid extra
In my world the fact that breakfast was included in the price makes 5 breakfasts refundable They made a mistake and take no responsibility for their mistake but think they can keep the $60 that is mine
It says quite a lot about how they see us hotel guests, but maybe that's why they use photoshopped images that don't match reality. I am very disappointed with the atmosphere, the pictures and the problem-free that was promised in advance never turned out to be but on the contrary extremely unpleasant nonchalant and thieving

This is stated on the Pietermaai website
Replenish the mind, revive the body and nurture the soul. Your adventure begins at Pietermaai Boutique Hotel with the anticipatory services you need, the amenities you expect and the extras you deserve.
Apparently the hotel thinks I deserve to be ripped off and not reimbursed 4 breakfasts = $60

Dear matsolovo, Thank you for leaving a review on our TripAdvisor page. We regret the fact that you did not have a good experience with us. As we already explained, if you book directly with us, you will receive complimentary breakfast during your stay. However, if you do not make use of the breakfast, we do not compensate for this by refunding the amount of the breakfast costs. Beware. This hotel emailed me a three-sentence email 3 days prior to my check cancelling my reservation. The worst part was that they required ME to call and talk with the booking service for 15-20 minutes to process the cancellation. Now I have to scramble and most of the hotels on the island are booked. This hotel is completely unreliable, and at best, completely disorganized. I would strongly recommend that you not risk your vacation plans to this company or these people. Go elsewhere.

This is a very cute boutique hotel but I have one qualm and it was a pretty big issue. The bathroom is a part of the room, it’s not separated by walls or anything! This means there’s barely any privacy for using the restroom which I found uncomfortable and awkward. Other than that it was nice, the workers were awesome! Super helpful and friendly. But seriously how much could it cost to add some drywall around the toilet and shower so you can have an actual bathroom?

Stayed here with family August 2024. Very nice boutique hotel in central Willemstad. The hotel compound is expansive and there are rooms and buildings in various areas near to the reception, some require a slight walk from the front desk. There are two small pools in beautiful courtyards in two different locations on the property. Entry to different areas is secured through coded gates between buildings. Wifi is free and fast. This hotel doesnt have a restaurant but it is basically next to Nieuwestraat which is a nightlife hotspot with restaurants and bar patios. Rooms are very clean and boho style. Hotel staff are friendly and nice. Parking is free if you have a rental car but you will have to park on the public streets in front of the reception or on the street behind reception first come first serve. This hotel is probably about a 10 minute walk to the famous Queen Emma floating bridge. Would definitely come back
