My husband and I stayed at this resort for 10 days. Feb 24 to March 06. We wanted to stay here for a long time and decided to book it. The resort is beautiful, very clean, the washroom throughout the resort were very clean, I was amazed by that. Someone was always cleaning, the lobby very clean too, actually all areas, and the rooms as well. The grounds are kept very nicely. This resort has 2 beaches, smaller one, very nice, the beach guys, Yonniel and Rafael are the best, these 2 guys are amazing!!! They keep the beach clean and they run to help you when u come to the beach. There is a restaurant and bar at a 2 min walk if that. The big beach is on the other side, a bit of a walk but a beautiful walk. Bar, and bbq available there. again washroom super clean!! Wifi worked everywhere, not so good at the big beach but the rooms and other places it was fine. The one thing we didn't enjoy, was there was no disco/club. They had a bit of entertainment at the lobby but that was it. Coffee was amazing wherever you got one. A LOT of people from Quebec!!! Reception very good, if you called with an issue they took care of it right away. The infinity pool is beautiful, but I didn't like the fact that the lobby bar was the bar for the pool, so people wearing bathing suit at the lobby all the time and the floor always wet. Very nice stay!!! …
The good: Staff is very friendly and kind. The grounds are well kept, beautiful plants and pools. I loved the pools and pool chairs especially the wicker ones. Nice poolside music Awesome beach Very comfortable mattress and pillows Air conditioning worked great Okay: I liked the catamaran excursion. Beautiful boat and ride. Pedro and the gang great and fun and safe. Snorkeling was like 4 fish meh and lobster was really dry. You had to pay extra for Pina colada (really?) after 75USD per person Beach bbq was good food, not amazing but better than anything else available. Same each day. A bun, raw veggies, pulled pork, rice. sometimes chicken drumsticks Bars limited. Only the lobby one is well stocked with just about every popular drink Shower floor felt gritty on first use but aside from that I found cleanliness was okay, not spectacular but alright. Nice balcony but no chairs or table. Basically stand there. Cool towel artwork on our bed each day But they would combine our bath towel with floor towel and beach towel (kinda gross) and they would be rolled up together and damp when we would get back, but we appreciated the sentiment. Contrary to other reviews I did not find it rowdy or drunk ppl everywhere. I think that is probably just bad luck depending when you travel and where your room is :( Lots of bad reviews mention cockroach infestation but I killed one in the buffet crawling under my table and saw a couple babies in the room and that’s it. Maybe they were even other insect not cockroach. Night time Entertainment was not great. “Grease” was lipsinging so so dancing. hardly any poolside daytime except a ten minute salsa “class” and one day there was exercise in the pool Bad: Rooms are in terrible repair. Furniture broken (except the bed) all drawers broken and won’t open and close. Bathroom door was super heavy solid wood “sliding” door that would not slide. We had to keep it open. Only my husband could budge it slightly Food quality…buffet is a lot of dishes of the same: ham eggs/omelettes stir fried, hotdogs cabbage eggplant bread and that’s about it. Fish is good. The buffet was not great but was better than the restaurants so you have an idea how poor the a la carte restaurants are. One woman was so unimpressed she yelled at the hostess that the food was disgusting before storming out. I found that quite rude ( though I agreed) and found the hostess handled it with grace. It’s not her fault and I felt bad for her. I recommend sticking to regular local meals like chicken pork beef and rice because they lack the ingredients to make foreign dishes like a “real” carbonara or pizza or risotto. They do their best with what they’ve got and it’s kind of an imitation of those dishes. You will not get steak lobster pasta or potatoes The snack bars are a joke I mean sliced cheese and cold cuts on a bun or a hot dog and fries. Bird everywhere crapping on the tables and eating scraps. …
We had a fantastic family vacation! We had been there in January 2020. Most the staff was the same. Junior, Carlos and all the entertainment staff made our vacation one to remember. Lulu from kids club remembered us from 3 years ago and she keeps the little ones entertained. She’s amazing. The coffee at Bennys and the service there and in the bar at the lobby were incredible. The food was fantastic and there is plenty of it. All the servers are so nice and attentive. The beaches are beautiful and the pools amazing. Cleanliness has gone down the tubes a bit. More surface wipe downs would make a big difference. There was toilet paper in the stalls at all times was a plus. The head of guest relations needs a pep talk. She had a chip on her shoulder. We saw a few cockroaches but not enough to ruin our vacation:) some of the main floor rooms have water damage and the wood is bloated so you can’t close drawers. Other than that it’s a beautiful trip and we had a great time ages 8, 26, 48, 55. There’s fun for everybody:)…
This was the best resort. Everybody here was friendly and helpful. The food was great at the "Restaurant Caribeno" where you were always greeted with a warm smile and great service from Yaima, Amalia, Milexy and Doralis. I would highly recommend you drop in for dinner here.
I have only been to one other resort in Varadero, so don't have a lot to compare it to, but I think Playa Vista Azul would be a good choice for just about anyone. We upgraded to Premium and to an oceanfront room, both of which I would highly recommend. Premium allows you to make reservations at the a la cart restaurants, which was hugely helpful. It also gives you access to the third pool on the resort, which we didn't actually use, but would be a quiet option if the resort was crowded. It also gives you access to a nice a la carte restaurant for lunch and dinner--which is a great option if the buffet or the beach lunchtime bbq doesn't suit you. Our second-floor ocean view had a spectacular unobstructed view of the water, and the soothing sound of the waves against the rocks put us right to sleep at night. For all guests, the infinity pool is a wonderful spot, especially for watching the sunsets at the end of the day. Perhaps the best thing about this resort, however, are the lengthy beaches on either side. To the east, you can walk for 4.5 km in one direction (at one point, you have to walk up a small set of stairs, past another resort. Very easy to do). To the west, you can walk about 2.5 km before you hit a small cliff at the base of a golf club. (Also have to go up a small rise past another resort.) You might be able to walk in the water to the other side of the golf course, but we didn't try it. There are beach chairs on both sides. The east has a lunch buffet within steps of the beach. The west has a small bar and a lunchtime bbq up a short flight of stairs from the beach. The staff were extremely helpful and consistently friendly and cheerful. We were especially taken with the hostess at the Cuban/Creole restaurant (sorry, I've forgotten your name!) who was very kind and attentive. (The food in that restaurant was also our favourite.) As for food, as many people note, you don't come to Cuba for the food. And in the seven years since I was last here, it's only gotten worse. Of course, there is more on offer at a resort than there is for the average Cuban. There was no butter or juice (just "juice" made from crystals) at the resort, but those shortages are island-wide. (We went into a "grocery store" on our day trip into Havana, and it would break your heart. ) Just something to think about if you read other reviews criticizing the food at this resort--I'm sure it would be no better anywhere else. Even the famed creator of the daiquiri, El Floridita in Havana, seemed to be making its cocktails with drink crystals. The grounds themselves were a little parched when we first got there (lots of dead grass). Unlike resorts in other places we've been, they don't seem to water the lawns, the gardens aren't "lush," which is understandable given the financial restraints in Cuba. Some of the buildings also showed signs of wear, but after one or two days of high winds, we could see why--the ground was covered with paint chips and small bits of stucco. Again, probably much the same as at other resorts. On the whole, if Varadero is your destination, the staff, the beaches and the infinity pool make this resort a great choice!…
Our stay at Playa Vista Azul was very enjoyable. Anaysis Gonzalez and Geidys Carreràs were absolutely wonderful. If there was a problem, it was resolved immediately. I was ill during my stay and the doctors were brilliant. All staff so kind.
We just returned from PlayaVista Azul, we had a magical vacation. Our stay in premium was wonderful from the staff, our rooms, the pools, restaurants cannot say enough, we were treated like Royalty!!!
Our stay at the Playa Vista Azul exceeded our expectations. I stay in a premium ocean front suite and what a view to have for two weeks. Dianna checked us in on arrival and made sure we had everything we needed during our stay. Doralis look after my room during my stay and kept it spotless with beautiful towel and sheet art in the room daily. She went beyond her duties and always greeted me with a smile. She even went out of her way to check on my moms room when I was unable to contact her. We found her safe reading on the balcony lol. Thank you Doralis. Yuri the butler would also check on us daily and make sure we had dinner reservations on days we were gone on excursions. Yuri also set up a car 59 Pontiac convertible to take us into Varadero for shopping, lunch, a town tour and return trip back to the hotel. He made us lunch reservations at Terraza and it was also top notch. Thank you Yuri and hope you had a wonderful birthday. Mayne from Sunwing was our rep at the hotel and she was extremely helpful with information about the hotel and the area. We book three excursions with Mayne Habana Premium, Cayo Blanco & Cigar & Rum tour. The all exceed our expectations with Haban/Tropicana being the best one. Thank you Mayne. Special thanks to the staff at the premium bar for making excellent drinks and keeping our glasses full. Also the staff at the premium & Neptune restaurants for the fantastic breakfasts & lunch. Jose on the beach. Thanks for the fun on the kayaks and paddle boats and helping my mother get out on the ocean for some fun. The beach’s are truly some of the best I have ever been to. If you decide to go to Varadero I strongly recommend the Playa Vista Azul at the premium level. The treat you like family and you won’t be disappointed. For the best experience the premium upgrade is required and a well worth it. Thanks for the memories. I will be back. Best regards, Jason …
I stayed there on vacation with my friends for 2 weeks and evertthink was perfect. I found the staff very friendly reception, bar, cleaning staff, janitors. But the best part of the hotel is the animation team:Ibisbel ,Hanny ,Carlos,Gustavo,Ronnye they are amazing all day long having fun with the guests and entertaining ‘em. Very cool guys
Loved it here. Would return in a heart beat. Staff are friendly and beaches are absolutely beautiful. We stayed premium and I would say it was worth the upgrade for better drinks and food. As for the food, it is cuba. But I never went hungry and what was offered was very tasty just lacking variety some days.
