While the Iberostar Selection Varadero garners appreciation for its prime beachfront location and attentive staff that contribute to a memorable stay, some guests feel that the value for money falls short, pointing to overpricing and subpar food quality. Despite this, the hotel's vibrant atmosphere, complete with live entertainment, is often praised, although the volume of music can be a bit much for some. Cleanliness is a strong suit, with well-maintained facilities and grounds, but guests have noted that the rooms, while comfortable, could benefit from updated décor and improved Wi-Fi.

We were very very pleased on all aspects of our trip to this hotel

i really don't understand the hesitation of people for going to Cuba because of a lack of food offer and or alcool
it is absolutely not true at this resort
it was not the cheapest but by far the best experience so far to Cuba
we had a family trip ( 6 people with 2 young kids, step mother is celiac (gluten allergic)) and we ate like kings
(scampi/ pork/ fish/Cuban langouste/pasta/pizza/charcuteries/cheese/veggies/stews etc...)
For the wine lovers, always a choice of red/white (buffet and all the bars) and if you want to pull an extra $ there is a nice wine list with a dozen or more wines from Spain, France, Italy, etc...
The entertainment was incredible : different show every night
the magic show left us speechless and thinking
acrobats/signers/dancers/ very imaginative
pianist in the lobby/Cuban band of drums and acoustics that go from table to table...

i understand that travelers go sometimes for the better prices but i searched all the offers and decided to go for this Hôtel with the family and it was spot on !
calm, classy, clean
every single employee was so nice to us and always smiling
i gave my ten year old daughter a room key and she was walking freely from beach to the room , we felt very secure
i also have a 7 year old boy that loved the main pool and since it was not deep ( about 3,5 feet) i could lay on the resting beds with my wife and not be worried

the beach is immaculate and again young kids can go more than 50 feet in the water and not have water overhead

nice cigar lounge very classy with a very good variety of rums and scotches, whisky also

We rested at the end of September 2023. We checked in very quickly, the room was in building 19 on the 3rd floor. The room was cleaned every day and at 5 👍 and if you put a dollar on the bed, they would also make different figures from Towels with a flower 🫶 there weren’t very many vacationers because it was not the season. The hotel area is large and well-groomed, the staff is very polite and attentive 👍. The ocean is just super, the water is warm and very clean, the beach is beautiful, white fine sand. There are many sun loungers on the beach, 2 bars, free catamaran rental, free sailing with a captain. Because Russian bank cards do not work, beach towels are issued without a deposit. There are several restaurants on the hotel premises, Japanese and seafood and some other 😀 We didn’t like Japanese 👎 but the seafood restaurant is good👍 in the main restaurant the staff is very attentive and friendly, there is not much food and it is specific, sweets are ok, there is ice cream , there is very little fruit - this is Cuba😀💃🏽 they offer a lot of wine and champagne, beer and coffee, no tea😊 There is an alcohol and cigar store on the hotel premises, rum in the hotel is cheaper than at the airport in duty free, a beach accessories store.
Every day at 21-30 there is an entertainment program 👍 the weather was good for September, there were rains at night. There is a spa salon on site where we were charged 80 bucks per person for a Cuban massage with rum 🤬 50 min, I didn’t like it at all 🤬 absolute discrepancy between price and quality, my wife can stroke me like that in the room and for free 😜 there is a sauna and hammam 👎 cold 😀
We flew from Moscow on a Boeing 777 with Russia Airlines, everything was very good, we fed 2 times, 13.5 hours flew by unnoticed or barely noticeable😀
Overall everything is good, I expected the worst 👍🫶
From Varadero airport to the hotel 30 minutes by car😜👍

Relaxed with 07.01.2025 hotel excellent.
As for check-in: arrived from the airport to the hotel,(10 min. )and we were given room keys, I consider it very fast. And the passwords from the wifi are for each different password.
Territory:
quite large, the buildings are arranged as if in a circle, consisting of 3 floor buildings, 20 buildings in total. The area itself is clean, the landscaping is tasteful, there is also an artificial body of water with various plants and stones and gazebos, shops are generally clean and cozy.
Beach:
Large, sandy white and very soft, umbrellas, deck chairs free, there are separate so-called gazebos with mattress ami and canopy for a fee of 15$ or euro. Towels for the beach are issued. Upon check-in you will be issued a receipt, you will receive towels for it, you can change them for fresh every day.
Nutrition: excellent, food full of meat, seafood, cheeses, in short you will not be hungry.

The positives:
Excellent attention from employees, very friendly, very friendly, clean place, always with very good workers, are very nice.
The negative:
I wouldn't put the premium gold 5-star plate on it as it is on your logo.
The fridge in your room only offers you water, you have no beer or soft drinks or other groceries or drinks being an all inclusive and "of the best" hotel in Cuba and Iberostar.
A single restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
There are no international drinks, no sodas like Coca Cola or Pepsi, the ones there are in very bad taste.
On the 4th day they no longer had eggs in their breakfasts, the food is very repetitive, there is no beef, everything is pork, chicken and fish.
If you find beef it is a miracle 🥲
Desserts are not one of the best, every day is the same thing and you can see that they do without the necessary ingredients since they are not rich.
The menu repeats every day, there is nothing different and it bores you on the 3rd day.
There are no seasonings, no spices, mayonnaise, etc.
The drinks are not really classic drinks, very watery, they do not have the Caribbean touch that all drinks you want to have.
Restaurants with reservations is really pretty much the same on the menu as it is on a day-to-day basis only they dress up with a touch of chef and smaller portion to give it a "unique" touch and a little preferential attention. But I thought I'd find a good steak cut there or a different menu menu menu than you're always offered.
The children's part is a shame that it only opens until 5pm, ideally at least the playroom will operate until 00hs as there are children who still play at that time and you are supposed to go on holiday there.
Unfortunately I did not bring a good experience of this hotel, the essential thing is always the food and here you do not enjoy that.

The Iberostar Selection in Varadero left us with cherished memories from our recent stay in early May 2024. This was our second time visiting the resort, two families of 7 people, and once again, it didn't fail our expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles and top-notch service, with Anita from Public Relations going above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect.

We would like to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff of this resort, with a special mention to Anita and the entire team who makes this a secure and welcoming destination for all.

On a personal note, we would like to share our story. Upon arriving at the airport, we realized that we had accidentally left a cherished ring in the safe locker of our room on the day of our departure. Panic quickly set in, but our worries were soon alleviated when we reached out to the hotel.

Yadi from Public Relations immediately personally went to the room to retrieve the ring and ensured its safekeeping with the security team until we could arrange for its return to Canada in almost 4 months. Anita, throughout this process, was a constant source of support and coordination
And now we are overjoyed to have our ring back in our possession. Our heartfelt thanks go out to Anita, Yadi, and the entire team for their efforts in making this a safe, friendly, and memorable place to visit.

The resort itself is truly stunning. The grounds are immaculately kept, and the rooms are modern, comfortable, and meticulously cleaned by the housekeeping team. We always returned to a spotless environment, thanks to the hardworking cleaner (We stayed in bungalow #10 on the 3rd floor, occupying 3 rooms.) Our cleaning lady daily crafted lovely figures out of towels in every room.

The buffet offered a wide variety of fresh fruits, eggs, milk, and delicious bread. Multiple options of cheese and ham were always available. We brought our own seasonings and spices to make our food taste just right for us. One can always find something to their liking on the menu. But please, people, don't forget:it's Cuba and please, be understandable and low your expectations.
The beachside restaurant catered a roasted paella and grilled pigs during one of the days of our 9-day stay.

To be fair, while the coffee in the buffet was not good, we found that a nice cup of coffee could be ordered in the lobby. We also would like to make a polite request to lower the volume of the loud live music during lunchtime, as it could be overwhelming and tiring.

The entertainment and music each night were great, especially the Magic show.
And some words of one of the most important treasures of our vacation: The beach! Beautiful! With its expansive stretch of golden sand and the breathtaking view of the ocean, where the water changed colors from deep blue to turquoise, was a tranquil and breathtaking destination.

In conclusion, we highly recommend this resort for any traveler. Whether you're traveling as a couple, solo, or with your family, this place has something for everyone.

I don’t even want to write a review about this hotel! But if you decide to fly to Cuba to Varadero, do not waste your time and money on this hotel! The service here is capricious, expecting tips from tourists like a cornucopia (not all of them, of course), but no matter how much you feed the wolf, they will still bite off half your hand! But there are also adequate, reasonable people! The room was on the second floor, close to the bridge to the beach, there were hammocks under the window, everything seemed to promise to be good, but then we entered the room and saw how “worn in” everything was! Internet is only in the room, if you hope to combine relaxation and keep up with the work process, then no, in this case you only have to sit in the room! The towels are all gray, with holes, the plumbing and the bathroom are shabby, cotton swabs and a sponge - these things are unfamiliar and not available at the hotel! The robes are dirty! The windows don’t want to open or close, the bedding is all damp with an unpleasant smell! Even if you have all-inclusive, in this hotel it doesn’t mean much, and the minibar in the room is only water, for breakfast there is often rancid “freshly squeezed juice”, don’t rush to take it. In a la carte restaurants, make a reservation in advance; I’ll tell you right away that there’s not a lot of delicious food there! In a Japanese restaurant, we encountered nationalist waiters, Ruta and Janine, very disgusting towards the guests, women who already know in advance who is booked with them and behave rudely! At our table in the middle, where the cook’s stove is located, almost no one ate their dish, since it is not tasty and appetizing for everyone! The territory has beautiful and well-groomed lawns, gardeners with a smile give crafts with fresh flowers! There is a spa area where large groups are located and you will not sleep until the morning if you are in the building nearby. We asked the administrator to resolve the situation, the decision was received by 5 am. So try to be further away from the pools and spa areas! The beach is beautiful, the water is warm, but I don’t want to go back!

It would seem that only one year has passed since we were in this resort, but it is hard to describe how much everything has fallen to the bottom. Check in was a complete mess, the room that I upgraded to the maximum with a king bed, turned into a room where I had 2 double beds and a fold-out sofa. A cracked toilet seat, sheets with yellow stains, old fleece blankets scorched like from cigarette butts, a broken balcony lock, the front door needs to be slammed so that the whole resort can hear that you have closed it, etc. No internet at all wi-fi or roaming, only in the lobby you can do some work or calls, I invited 3 new families of my work colleges to this resort, I was ashamed in front of them, from what I saw this year. People who worked and gave their all, disappeared somewhere, a lot of new staff with whom it is very difficult to communicate and explain what you need, since they do not even have basic English. The abundance of food, alcoholic drinks, the cleanliness of the resort, the work of the (new) waitresses, check in procedure, intertaiment EVERYTHING dropped from 95% to 40%. A SPECIAL hello to the manager, who promised and DID NOTHING, to find out why Gerardo, who knows 4 languages, who worked on the beach in the Private Lounge last year, was kicked out of the resort and to solve the problems in the rooms where my work colleges were staying. Forget it if your friends or work colleges decide to visit you at the hotel, now no one is allowed there, not even in the lobby! Juices and coffee in the dining room are so diluted that you will drink water with the taste of your order. Alcoholic cocktails are made from cheap rum, which smells very strongly of alcohol. Well, if you want to drink good rum, cognac or whiskey, be prepared to pay $ 6 US per shot. Only on the 5th day did more or less good alcohol appear, before that the shelves were almost empty. I just want to thank the staff who cleaned our room, the girl in the dining room who greeted us and saw us off at the entrance during dinner, a guy named Israel who is always friendly and cooks excellent fish. Our concierge Dana, who always helped us with any questions and was always very friendly and welcoming, Richard who works at the Private Lounge. These are the people who still keep this resort afloat, without them this resort would go under. These people make up for all the shortcomings that have appeared since last year with their smiles and Cuban hospitality...

I have been to Cuba more than I can count and have visited hotels all around the world, but it was my first time at this hotel and with a baby (9 months old) in an all inclusive.

Overall, my husband and I have been very pleased with this hotel. It is pretty, clean, the staff is nice, the food was good (nothing seemed to be missing at the buffet, there were eggs and bacon and a wide variety of juice and smoothies in the morning, lots of meat and bread options, delicious fish carpaccio every day, and even ketchup and butter), lots of available beach and pool chairs (even free of charge beds by the pool) and the drinks were good and not diluted. There were very few mosquitoes when we visited in mid-November, the weather and temperature were perfect and we did not get ill from the food or water.

The ground floor room in building 11 we were given was exactly what we needed. It was central, quiet, easy to access with a stroller, very large, with a balcony facing the jungle, and included a modern shower and a bath, a king size bed and a decent size wooden crib. We always had hot water, the safe was working well, we had no trouble getting more filtered water (although we also brought 4L of spring water for the baby) and we did not find any nasty insects roaming on the floor or walls.

This hotel is very baby friendly. We could visit 2 of the 3 a la carte restaurant with our son and were provided with high chairs in every restaurant/buffet. We had no trouble accessing the beach with our jogger stroller (some people left their umbrella stroller at the entrance of the beach) and we installed our beach tent everyday without any issue. The children pool area with the ship/water slides is not suitable for babies but 2 of the 3 pools of the resort are.

My only negative comments is with regards to people smoking everywhere inside the resort and the loud noises from the animation team. Since all pools are situated next to each other, there are no quiet/smoking free area to go to for babies’ naps or just to relax.

I recommend this hotel for those who like animation, smaller sized resorts and for families with toddlers. If I had to return with a family, I would arrange a taxi from the airport as it took about 1h30 to get to the hotel with all the stops.

Sixth or fifth time I am not sure in this beautiful hotel, after so many years to see them again was a great joy indeed, several years waiting.

A thousand thanks what surely because I am repeating so many times beautiful the splendid room they gave me! I couldn't believe my beloved Iberostar Varadero left me besides gift Rom and gift fruits, ocean view wow thank you again

First great thanks to Ladys in charge of my hotel that every day left super impeccable everything I am so impropriate, never missing water or toilet paper or soap anything.

Also greetings to Ivis from the clothing gift shop

Surprised that two people came to the room a night to change the towels!

Congratulations because the hotel takes good care of you and is pretty well preserved and beautiful as you left the beach, the wooden bridges to go to them, the bars even one that has a second floor to climb and sit with a drink looking at the sea

I was very surprised that with the situation Cuba is experiencing one night in the main dining room at night there were lots of lobsters to eat for free, wow what an effort from you!!

Also a thank you to Xavier who I think is the head of accommodation I think solved a problem, a simple gentleman very kind, great gesture had.

I always confuse the name of the restaurant where you eat lobster, impressive the attention of those people, of course also rich the excellent food

The only thing a little sad to say that every year I came to the hotel and found many staff from previous years, but this time there were almost no previous eras

And another thing but it does not have to do with the hotel is that there were many rains there were noticeable numbers of mosquitoes compared to previous years.

It was especially sad to see the girls who clean the rooms and those who keep the green spaces scratching, with mosquito-scaring rags, scaring them off their feet etc. Hopefully on your side, although as I say it's not up to you, you can somehow help the employees on this mosquito thing.

Also please fix the air conditioning of the star cafe that those of us who sit down for coffee can not be for long because of the heat and also because of the poor employees who care that die of heat, even if they are temporarily buy a ceiling or table fan I ask you

Finally I don't know how they do but although almost all new employees all very friendly friendly, he has as we say here a good eye for choosing employees.

Despite much talk of the other hotel that has been rebuilt and is new, yours is the best in Varadero without a doubt.

A big hug and thank you, pray for me so I can come back soon!! I love you and carry you in my heart!!!

Visited from the UK with two children, 12 and 15. Our first visit to Cuba and stayed here for a week after several nights in Havana.
We chose this hotel based on reviews and so glad we did. We don’t like large single building hotels and this has accommodation spread across lovely well kept grounds and with a large spacious pool. There was plenty of space to swim and unlike the all inclusives we visit in Europe there was no need to get up early to reserve sunbeds!
The staff from the bar, restaurants to cleaning work so hard and are so friendly (as we found are most people in Cuba!),
All the musicians, singers and dancers in the resort are amazingly talented. We didn’t expect this level of quality and really enjoyed the musical shows.
The beach is stunning, it was a shame that we couldn’t use the water sports on most days due to the breeze and sea conditions but it meant that the waves were good fun and out of their control. Unfortunately though one day there was red flags and no swimming but we had the pools so was ok.
We bought a half day excursion from someone on the beach to Coral Bay for snorkelling and then on to Saturno caves. It was a good price and we went in a lovely old car and was one of our highlights so would recommend to get off site for a bit.
We felt the food was not as good as equivalent European all inclusives we had stayed in and shortages of some items showed but that said we still ate really well every day and enjoyed the food so we were more than happy. For a week stay we could use 3 reservations at the 4 available restaurants, then buffet on other days. For the theatre of the table cooking and fun chefs we would recommend the Japanese but we also enjoyed the others and it made a change from the buffet to have table service.

Is it worth the upgrade to "prestige"?
Answer from Rosie.N

Hello, I have been to Iberostar Selection Varadero for over 15 years. They do not have a "Prestige" Section. However, They do have "Junior Suite" which the rooms are a little bigger. No added perks. The regular rooms are a nice size. All depending how many people you are in a room and if you need an extra bed. Enjoy your trip.
