At Paradisus Princesa Del Mar Resort & Spa, while the friendly staff and vibrant atmosphere receive commendations, opinions on value and amenities vary. Many guests feel the experience doesn't quite match the premium price due to service hiccups and amenities falling short. Room evaluations are mixed, with some finding them spacious and clean, while others note cleanliness issues and dated decor. The beachside location is generally a hit, although some comments suggest the beach could be better maintained.

It is our fifth year at Princess del Mar Royal Service. You can’t beat the location in Varadero. Its beautiful, walkable, clean, well maintained beaches stretch for miles. I love the size and quieter intimacy of the layout of the rooms and the Energy bar on the Royal Service side as well as entertainment which tends to be quieter. ( I did miss the water ballet this year though) If you want a livelier more upbeat change of pace one can always wander over to the other side of the resort to the lobby bar and the open square for entertainment and dining.
Aside form it’s fabulous location, it’s the warm efficient staff that make the resort. Our butler Jasnivy welcomes us like returning family. She goes above and beyond to ensure we have a smooth carefree stay at the resort, arranging taxis, tours and anything we might need. I look forward to my daily check in with her and of course my daily hug.
We started every day with a big smile and greeting from Janetsy our server at the poolside buffet. She was always very courteous, quick and accommodating with especially with the coffee first thing the morning. Throughout the day I would see her diligently and efficiently working outside always with a smile on her face. It was a pleasure to see Janetsy every morning.
So many people worked tirelessly throughout the day to ensure our vacation was the best they could make it ; from the lady who smiled and sang while cleaning around the outside of the buffet, bar and the pool deck, to the pool bar staff Marlene and Ana, to the Energy bar staff Virginia and Aida and the staff who daily ensured the pool was spotless. Restaurant staff at the Hilltop Belkys, Niebys and Yarian and at the Marsaille staff Michell, Maggy and Fernando, my favourite places to eat, were accommodating and efficient, making sure any dietary needs were met ensuring everyone’s safety.
There were shortages at the resort this year over which staff had no control but there was always more than enough good food to eat and staff did their best with service to overcome these shortages and this made the vacation as well as the wonderful location.

A trip to Cuba is what you make of it. If you arrive with a poor attitude, chances are you're going to have an unfavorable experience.

We stayed in the regular area in building 4 on the 2nd floor. The resort was nice. We had a comfortable, clean room with a hot shower any time of day. Our fridge wasn't stocked with beer but we did get a big bottle of water each day. There were extra pillows and blankets and our air conditioning worked. It was also nice to open balcony door and let fresh air in because otherwise the room could smell musty.

The food in Cuba is ok, it's actually better than I expected. For breakfast you can have a fresh omelette made for you with vegetables and cheese, or fried eggs. There is usually a small line up, but worth the wait. The snack bar is a great option for food too, they sometimes run out of items but you can always get something to eat at any hour there. We tried ordering room service one time, but that is not a great option because you will be waiting for a lot longer than you expect.

Reuben, who we booked our a la carte meals with was a great guy and provided exceptional recommendations for in town restaurants too. We enjoyed steak and lobster at Varadero 60 for around 20 CUC each! We also had amazing food at the Waco Club restaurant in town too. The Japanese a la carte was a fun experience and the food was good. We also enjoyed dinner at the Hilltop restaurant and Miramar restaurant.

We met some amazing people on this trip. Orestes, Yolexi and Barby at the pool bar...you guys made this trip extra special and always put a smile on our faces and provided excellent service! Yusmila and Luis Daniel at the Piano bar, you both were amazing too!

The hotel concierge person seems only interested in assisting you with upselling the Royal service and is no help when it comes to providing you with help with any other concerns you may have. He will record your room number to make you believe he will make things happen, but he's not your guy!

The beachfront is amazing! There are plenty of chairs and the water is turquoise blue and refreshing. If the weather is rough, sometimes jellyfish can wash up, so keep that in mind. Bring extra sunscreen, we went through three spray bottles. Also, bring bug spray because there are mosquitos in the morning and evening.

My husband and I stayed at the royal service side from Feb 17 to 27th. This is our 10+ time we have stayed at the resort. We love this resort! the staff is amazing, grounds and pools are beautiful, the beach and ocean is stunning. We always return to this resort because we love Cuba and this resort feels like home to us. The food in Cuba can sometimes not be the best, but guests have to understand that it is difficult for Cuba to get certain things because of the imbargo, but my husband and I always find something good to eat! The breakfast and lunch on the Royal side is very good! We always had lunch on the pool side patio where Margariita made us fresh pizza to our liking every day. If we wanted different toppings we just went over to the Miamar restaurant and got a plate of whatever we wanted, like smoked salmon, and took it over to the pool side patio and Margarita would make the pizza for us! she would cook on the grill what ever meat you liked as well! we had a yummy bar b q pork chop one day! The pool bar staff is amazing! Marlene and Annarays are totally amazing! always a smile and never did we have to ask to have our drinks filled. Our butler Arletys is as always awesome! she went out of her way to make sure our room was beautiful on our arrival and she kept on top of everything we needed. Thank you to our maid Marlen, she kept our room sparkling clean everyday and the room always smelled fresh and she was so pleasant to talk to each morning! The pool guys keep the pool beautiful and alway help out with getting you set up around the pool in the morning. All the staff at the resort are wonderful! The bed was very comfortable and the pillow service is awesome! My husband and I each had a big body pillow and two comfy feather pillows.
Our only big complaint, which we are hoping will be rectified is the wine situation. There was no white, red or sparkling wine available unless you purchased, which we would not do because it was to expensive and we should not have to do so at an all inclusive! We understand this was not the fault of the staff, we blame the people at the top, Melia! they need to be aware of the problem and make sure that there is alway enough wine for guests! We have never encountered this problem at the resort in the past, so this was disappointing for us. We spoke to other travellers at the airport when we were leaving and all other resorts in Cuba seemed to have wine. So please Paradusis have this fixed before our next return in September! Other than that we love all of you and the resort so we will be back and we will recommend to family and friends!

We just got back from this resort. This is nowhere near a 5 star. Unless you’re on the royal side.
The food was edible, drinks were watered down, no beer in the fridges, had to fight to get water. The a/c never worked in our room, I called the customer service line they said they were sending someone, never came. I shut it off for a day and turned it back on finally worked, then the maid came in and turned it off again. The piano bar was great , so was the cigar bar, Victor, Laura and Larissa were great servers. The “gift” shop if you want to call it that was terrible, over priced. They are a very unorganized resort that needs a lot of improvement. The entertainment at night was good if you could find a seat. The lobby bar was terrible couldn’t make drinks to safe their lives. A gong show to book al a cartes. The snack bar when we arrived was horrible, could only get beer to drink, ham and cheese, tuna or a pork sandwich. They ran out of beer one day, never any wine, no cola one day.the beef was like eating rubber. You wait for an hour sometimes for an omelette the grill people were very slow. One gal was really good and fast but didn’t work every day. The only good thing about the food was the fresh pears, apples and the desserts and fresh bread. The toasters sucked tho.The Japanese al a carte was great. The Chinese was terrible the beef was rubber, the best part of that al a carte was the cake they made for my fiancé’s birthday. The cafe by the beach was good they cooked hot dogs on a grill type thing but weren’t always available. Never any ketchup, mustard.you were lucky if you could find HP sauce, no salad dressing except for oil.i get it we are in Cuba but honestly we stayed in Varadero last year at a different resort and it was amazing compared to this one. I heard a couple talking to another couple about the French al a carte and said they cancelled because they heard so much negativity and went to the buffet instead. Needles to say we will not be back to this resort or recommend it to any of our family or friends.

This was not my first time in Cuba, although the last time was at a family resort and was about 10 years ago. My experience at this resort was not stellar. Most of the staff were definitely very kind, especially Yumila and Luis in the Piano Bar. This was by far the best place to sit in the evening to enjoy some music and great drinks and wonderful service. Some air conditioning in the Piano bar would have been nice, definitely had many people leave due to how hot it was in there but we stayed. The pianist, sorry I don't remember her name, was amazing. Guests were in encouraged to sing karaoke and she also sang and had an amazing voice.

Had no hot water for 3 days and no answers from any staff as to why or when it would be turned back on. This was quite frustrating!! The room was not cleaned very well throughout our stay, we seemed to get fresh towels but the used ones were never taken. Other guests made comments of not getting fresh towels, perhaps it was because we had them all. The bar was not stocked every day so it was a hit and miss on that.

The Oriental restaurant for the a la carte was absolutely terrible. The staff were terrible, we didn't even get drinks, the food took over an hour to come and then the food was awful!!! The Japanese was by far the best meal we had and was very entertaining.

Of course the beach is amazing and the pools were kept very clean. We did take advantage of the free scuba diving. Many guests didn't seem to know about this but it was definitely worthwhile. This was my first time scuba diving and the instructor was very professional and spoke english very well so he was very easy to understand. He could be quite funny at times as well. All the staff at Giovata were supurb.

The service and staff at the buffets were good, food there was good as well and the chefs were always pleasant while cooking for you. Service at the pool was also quite good.

I have to say that I am not so sure I would recommend this resort to family and friends :-(

This was our third visit to this resort. In the past we loved it. We had always heard complaints from people from other resorts about the lack of different food and condiments. This time arond we found this 5 star resort to be worse that 3 star resorts we have visited. The room mini bar was never filed unless I called and asked. We never knew when the room was going to be cleaned, we would return at three PM thinking we could relax only to have someone knock on the door and say sorry we will be back. Some bars didn't have wine others no beer and still others no ice. This was the first time we experienced going to a restaurant only to be told they didn't have half the item on the menu. When you did get your order there wasn't any condiments including salt. We ordered an omelette with toast only to get a plain omelette with toast with no butter no jam and nothing else. The staff as always was great but they only had so much to work with. Then at the airport checking in was a nightmare the baggage system stopped working and the power kept going out. The staff just joked and laughed in Spanish and didn't give us any updates. This was enough for us to rethink if we would return to Cuba after seven visits.

Our experience was fantastic at this resort. People have to remember Cuba is a third world country and in my estimation this resort tries their very best with what they have. The food is basic but never went hungry, a la cartes not bad, we liked the French, Italian and Japanese the best. We stayed on the regular side which we heard from royal guests the upgrade isn't worth it. Our towels were replaced when needed, mini bar stocked when needed, never a problem finding chairs on the beach or at the pool. Staff very accommodating and smiles everywhere! Only negative I can think of was no hot water on one occasion and not a big deal. Fantastic bar service at the pool, we didn't even have to ask wait staff for our drinks of choice, shout out to them for Sure. All in All, yes I would return in a heartbeat! Special thanks to Mari, community manager went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. She is the biggest asset to this resort! Thanks for a wonderful stay!

The grounds were nice enough, food is what you would expect from a Cuban resort. Service was great with 70% of the staff, the others are in the wrong line of work! Racket club coffee was great :) Main buffet waiting staff on the outdoor patio was exceptionally friendly. Started off rough with a broken king size bed. They traded the room for two twin size beds which isn’t what I paid for. However, the new room didn’t smell like mildew/mold, which made it much easier to breath. There are two outdoor hot tubs - one was empty all week, the other one was filled with slimy green water. Hot tubbing would have been fun!

The good first...The rooms were clean spacious and comfortable, when we asked for more towells (the hotel had run out of clean ones), the maid did remember . some hours later to bring them to us. The grounds are beautiful, the facilities, particularly the gym and the tennis courts were very good. The tennis pro, gave me a coaching session and then played double with me and another couple, when he couldnt one day he arranged for someone else to. Most of the staff worked hard a particular mention to the piano bar, the reception staff and the room maids. The water aerobics was fun thanks to the instructor. Now the not so good, as I mentioned earlier the Hotel did not have enough towells, 3 days (out of 6) they left us only 2 and when we called for more we were told we had to wait for them to come back from laundry. Most of the negatives are food/resaurant related, so if you like to eat on holiday do NOT come here. Only 2 mornings out of 6 there was butter at breakfast, when we asked we were told they had none. The second evening we ate at Miramar, my husband had beef, it was so tough and full of grissle he couldnt eat it (and he can it anything, normally), when he told the waitress how bad it was she said "I know". It was almost impossible to get a cup of tea at breakfast, by the third morning we started drinking coffee. The service in the bars was very slow (not the fault of the staff, but lack of staff), one evening in the piano bar we waited 27minutes as the staff have to serve outside as well as in the bar. The buffet was basically the same every day, and the food that should have been hot/warm was cold. At breakfast the only cereal (in an adults only resort) was Nestle chocolate covered ball things! The queue at the 2 omlette stations at breakfast was long, normal wait time 15-20mins, I think the queue was so long because it is the only way to get hot food. The most unbeleivable thing of all was that they ran out of red wine , an all inclusive with no red wine, day 1 we had red wine with dinner, days 2-4 none, I told the manager in the restaurant it was unacceptable to which he replied we might have some tomorrow, then day 5 they had red wine again, day 6 no red wine. This COULD be a lovely hotel, but until they make some serious changes I would say do not waste your money by staying here.

We have travelled to Cuba previously so know what to expect. Booking a 5 Star adult resort we expected a 3 star experience based on other destinations. At the present moment this star rating is very misleading.
So many issues at the present time, room a/c problems, TV doesn’t work, hot water limited ,no Sink plug, mini bar not restocked . 24 hr snack bar without options , easier to ask what do you have . Pizza cafe without Pizza majority of the time and if it was a available they ran out quickly. Food at buffet was very poor the majority of the time, no butter, shortage of plates, disorganized and not a pleasant experience at all. Booking the speciality dining was a nightmare, people lined up for 2 hours. When you did get a booking the restaurants were out of many of the choices and no wine. Speaking or wine how does so called 5 Star resort have no wine for 5 says. Ran out of beer and coke in certain bars. Service at Lobby Bar worse I have even encountered, staff visited with each other or played on cell phones .Tipping didn’t seem to help. The pool and beach bar started using the cheapest quality 4oz plastic glasses I ever seen, unacceptable when they had good heavy plastic the first couple of days.
We talked with people staying at other resorts and they were not experiencing this issue. They even had real hamburgers not ham burgers ,
We travel frequently and this is the first time I have ever written a review. Our maid was a gem and the staff at piano bar was excellent . I would recommend not visiting this resort until it gets its issues resolved. Could be a great place .
