This is a joke. Stay away from this hotel. First thing there is no security on the beach . I left my personal towel for a while when i came back it was gone . I reported it to all the personal and the reception but no one cares about the customers belongings. Keep an eye on your things if you stay here . Second, the rooms are very old and dirty and they have insects and ants . Food and drinks are the biggest joke. They literally have nothing to drink except beer . They will kill you with sec alcohol and cheap Rum . They don’t have any international drinks in all the bars . NONE! . Food was the same each day for the week that i stayed there . They basically serve salade and spaghetti all day long . You can really tell the poor quality of food every time you enter the restaurant. Bartenders and restaurant personal are very nice . They only work with what they have . The beach was great though. Will never come back here or recommend this place to anyone that I care about . I’ve been to Cuba 3 times before and I know that this is not the best place if you are looking for good food but when it comes to quality of rooms and drinks it sucks! Worst experience ever! Save your money and stay away!…
The hotel was ok. The elevator a little wonky. Our room was comfortable but the bathroom ceiling was leaking some water and we told them twice. It wet the stuff I had on the basin. Don’t know if they fixed it or not. Seemed to be coming from the room above. Shout out to our maid China who kept the room tidy. The remote in the tv needed batteries and the air conditioner too. The hair dryer didn’t work. They gave us another one after asking a couple of times. The entry door also needed batteries. The card wouldn’t work. The food was ok. I wasn’t sure what to expect. They had a variety of beef, pork, chicken, fish, turkey. On Valentine’s Day they had shrimp and lobster. I wasn’t too crazy about their desserts. The ice cream and cookies was the best. Some of the food was too salty like the lasagne and some of the meats. A little less salt and it would have been good. At the grill near the beach there was French fries only once in two weeks and there were several days without the hamburgers but that was ok for me. Only watermelon, pineapple and papaya for fruit. There was lots of vegetables though if you are vegetarian. You don’t go to Cuba for the food. The beach was awesome, the water calm and fairly warm. Great music and the people were very friendly. Not much to do though, not a lot going on during the day except for the Italians who came with a travel agency. There was a couple of nights with singers and dancers as entertainment. Shout out to Dayana and Leya at the Coral restaurant who were very sweet to us and Jose at the lobby bar who put smiley faces on my cappuccino. The coffee at the restaurant was basically water and milk so I’d go to the bar for a cappuccino. We enjoyed our vacation there though.…
We loved this resort's perfect size (not too big) and fantastic location (right on the nicest section of the beach strip and within walking distance to town), not to mention it's by far the best value we've found in Varadero. The food was great, the drinks generously poured, and the nightly live shows spectacular (although the closing comedy skits were always in Italian, because the hotel is partly owned by an Italian company). The staff were all so friendly and helpful, we miss them already! Our thanks to Juan, Ernesto, and everyone else for making our stay so pleasant and memorable. We're definitely going back!
Great trip, friendly staff, Best we have have ever met in Cuba , clean grounds, hotel and beautiful beach,we would go back.. This resort is small, no stairs, which we loved.. Food was not bad, turkey pork, chicken fresh bread, and the usual salads and spaghetti.. You will not starve, coffee is strong if you like it.. 2complaints however, not enough bathrooms for the pool and beach area..the one that is there went 3days with no toilet paper or flushing ability. Pineapples are picked way too early, found them hard and no juice..
An excellent experience! Food and drinks are really good. The room was clean every day with adorable ornaments with towels and flowers. Special thanks to all the workers for all the support and all the smiles and good services they provided us during our stay. I'll come back definitly.
Be Live Experience Las Morlas, Varadero, Cuba December 30, 2022 – January 6, 2023 I am just back from a weeklong trip to the Be Live Experience Las Morlas in Varadero, Cuba with my wife and teen/tween daughters. We were fortunate enough to be there over the New Year and the resort put on a great celebration. This is a smaller resort with 148 rooms split between regular hotel rooms with two queen beds and loft villas with one queen upstairs and two twin beds downstairs. Both levels have bathroom but only the upper level has a bathtub and shower. There are closets and a safe, which is accessible with your room key card. As others have noted, the resort is showing its age in many ways, but management is on top of things. The maintenance people were always busy, though I expect the resort will need to undergo significant renovations soon. Between Trump’s reimposed embargo, global supply chain issues, and the lasting effects of the COVID pandemic, Cuba is struggling to get some much-needed supplies. When we were there, the bars at the resort were consistently out of vodka and tequila. If you are a fan of either of those drinks, I suggest a stop at the Duty Free shops at you airport before heading to Cuba. A common refrain amongst traveler to Cuba is that no one goes for the food. Based on previous trips, I would tend to agree but the food as Las Morlas was pretty good. Because it caters to a large Italian clientele, they have brought in chefs from Italy, and it shows. We were very pleased with the quality of the food, even if it was repetitive at the buffet. Cuba did away with the convertible peso a couple of years ago. Now you can pay in Canadian or America dollars, Euros or Cuban pesos. We’re Canadian and found that often there was no exchange between CDN and USD on the resort or in town. Finally, we were there at New Year’s Eve and the resort put on a big spread to welcome in the New Year. They even did a champagne toast at 6 pm (EST) for the Italians who were celebrating the welcome of the new year at home. PROS · The beds were really good! I have experienced Cuban resort beds before and they are not particularly restful. The mattresses were really quite comfortable. I didn’t find the pillows to be as comfortable but I am a bit of a diva when it comes to pillows. My wife, who has back and neck problems, quite liked them. YMMV. · Food was pretty good! · Drinks were plentiful, though the lack of some liquors meant some popular drinks were unavailable. · Restaurant and bar staff are friendly and attentive. · Housekeeping was great. No complaints there. · Beach was beautiful and well maintained. Green flags every day but the first when it was yellow. · Watersports on the beach were optional. Luis approached us on our first day, gave us the run down on the activities and associated costs. After that, we were free to approach him and his team on our terms. · Varadero doesn’t really have vendors on the beach in the way some other countries do. They only exception was kitchen staff from Varadero restaurants approaching us a couple of times to try and drum up business. Nothing pushy, just letting you know there are options off the resort. · Entertainment at the amphitheatre every night, though this is also a con (see below). · The entertainment staff were really good including some Cirque du Soleil-type entertainment. They cycle through four languages, so each act takes a while. They pool bar is right behind you if you need a refill. · Most staff speak English, French and Italian with a fair degree of fluency, in addition to Spanish. · We didn’t end up doing the excursions offered through Air Transat but we did go to Luis to see about a catamaran and snorkeling trip out to the reef across from the Plaza America mall and convention centre. It was about 20 minutes to the reef and then we snorkeled with the fish was they were being fed. That was about 45 minutes. There are underwater photographers there that will take your photos for $10 per person. They will meet you at the lobby of your hotel and show you the pics. If satisfied, you can buy them. · There are two small shops on site, both in the lobby. In the first shop, you can buy rum, cigars and cigarettes (local brands), as well as perfumes and toiletries. In the second shop, you can buy hats, bathing suits, shirts, etc… · There are two more shops that are set up near the south end of the pool deck that are open sporadically. They sell books, calendars, souvenirs and other memorabilia. CONS · The villa we stayed, 108, in was dated. The drawers did not close. The bathroom was missing a panel on the shower door so the floor was often wet after a shower. There was no plug for the bath tub (not really a big deal for us but I do recall what it was like when my children were small). · The villas have a circular staircase that I called the “Stairs of Death.” Bringing your luggage up and down was challenging and not something for the faint-hearted. · Cockroaches. It’s a tropical country. I get it. Cockroaches are a fact of life. But we had eight over our one week stay and our kids were very unhappy about it. They are big, too. About two inches long. · The pool is missing tiles in the deep end and some of the lights are hanging into the water. · I was last in Cuba in 2014. At that time, I bought a box of Partagas Coronas for $114 (US). Nine years later that price had shot up to $320. I ended up buying a box of Guantanamera cigars for under $100. · Unfortunately, the way the amphitheatre is located that the fact that the building is v-shaped, the sound bounces. The shows at the theatre generally wrap up by 11 but they are loud. If you go to bed early or have young kids, this may be an issue for you. · The wifi was inconsistent. The resort has a wifi zone, which covers most but not all of the resort. We had to have our wifi reset several times when it stopped working. We did this at the front desk. It wasn’t a problem. MISCELLANEOUS · There is a cashier at the front desk of the hotel but they rarely have the funds on hand to make change for tips. The bartenders have smaller bills and I never had an issue breaking $500 peso notes into smaller bills ($100s and $20s typically). · Get your Canadian bills exchanged at the Cadex in the southeast corner of the Occidental Arenas Blancas hotel on Avienda Segundo (Second Avenue) but only do it as needed as changing it back to Canadian funds is very difficult and you will pay. We did $80 CDN at a time, which worked out to $7,880 Cuban pesos. · Tips – we typically tipped about $100 pesos for drinks and at the buffet. At the al a carte restaurant at Las Morlas, Mylos, we tipped $500 Cuban pesos. We checked with the Air Transat representative to ensure we were not undertipping. · There is another hotel on the property, the Be Live Experience Varadero. We didn’t go there but you are free to use the amenities (but not eat at the restaurants – no certain about the bars). Las Morlas has better beach access. · Get to the beach early if you want to get a large group of beach chairs under the palapas together. · The entertainment team had a few activities each day where the prize was a 40 oz bottle of Havana Club rum. · There is a kids club at the resort. Our kids are too old for that but I did see other children there and they appeared to be having a good time. · Personal care items have always been difficult to find in Cuba in my 24 years of going there, particularly for women. Feminine hygiene products are always appreciated as tips for the housekeepers, as well as cosmetic items like lipstick and nail polish. Crayons and that sort of thing for the kids. · My kids are long past this stage but pull-ups and swim diapers were unavailable on my last visit. If your kids are at that stage of life, consider investing in some.…
Super clean if slightly rundown. Food was excellent even though limited as to what they could serve. Kitchen staff did their best to mix it up slightly each day and a couple of the special dinners were fantastic. The resort is fairly small, which we preferred. The beach was one of the best we have ever visited. The location is great if you want to walk to town. There were live shows each day that were fun to watch and some great talent. The best part of the vacation was the staff. Everyone made us feel at home from our awesome housekeeper to the wait staff and our bartenders who we got to know really well. We will be back to Las Morlas.
We stayed again at Las Morlas in mid December for a week. We are repeat visitors for over 25 years and love coming back to this place never to be disappointed. The hotel is small and still has its old charm. The staff are extremely friendly and many communicate in several languages. Rooms are always cleaned and the beach/ocean is the best from whole Varadero peninsula. Our special thanks to Isabelita and Dianys and everyone else who looked after us day in/out through out our stay. Gracias y Hasta pronto mike & Olga
My husband and I stayed at the Las Morlas for probability our fifteenth time this Nov/Dec for three weeks. Although there are always shortages in Cuba the people, and the beaches more than make up for that. This hotel is very small with just over 100 rooms therefore it only has two restaurants. The food was much better than last year, more variety, better use of spices, more creativity and perfect service. Since there is an Italian club at this hotel you benefit from amazing pasta dishes, lasagna, arancini and a chef straight from Italy😁 The staff at this hotel treat everyone like family and have all been there for many many years. The rooms although dated are always immaculately clean and the daily maid service is perfect. The beach at this hotel is truly one of the best and you are walking distance from the Boulevard and downtown. We love this hotel, it is our home away from home and it is a small gem that not many are aware of. Give it a try, you will fall in love. Special thanks to Isabelita ,Dianys, Liset, Lucas, Jorge, Yoel, Reynaldo, Miriam, Milagros, Yamir, Xenia X2, Cari, Danilo, all the dining room girls and guys and anyone else I have forgotten. The resort is small and that is great as the staff get to know you. Suleiky was our breakfast and lunch server daily at the buffet and treated us amazingly. Thank you. Jeny was our housekeeper for the week and made sure daily our room was spotless and she created beautiful little things out of our towels. The food was great, especially those cinnamon buns in the morning. The beach was spectacular. Crystal clear water. I can’t wait to go back.
