Hotel Tuxpan Varadero garners praise for its cleanliness, with guests frequently highlighting the spotless rooms and pristine outdoor areas. While the rooms receive mixed reviews—some finding them cozy and others suggesting they could use an update—the hotel's atmosphere is generally celebrated for its lively entertainment and authentic Cuban charm. Service at Hotel Tuxpan is often applauded; the staff's dedication to guest satisfaction and their enthusiasm for commemorating special occasions stand out. Amenities, including the well-maintained pool and beach, are also well-regarded, contributing to the hotel's reputation for providing good value, despite some concerns regarding the food and VIP offerings.

I recommend the Tuxpan Hotel for the excellent attention provided by its staff, they are all very attentive and work wonders for you to feel at ease in the difficult conditions in which they work.
This hotel (opened in 1991) requires an urgent investment to improve the conditions of its rooms, for example: the air conditioning cannot be regulated, the window panes and common areas are deteriorated (the views cannot be enjoyed through of them), the bathtubs in my room and my family were bushy. It is seen that everything is old and requires renovation.
However, the site is saved by its workers, who are quick to help with everything and solve the problems.
The common areas of the hotel have a very nice and pleasant design. The buffet menu dishes are all well identified, although it must improve the assortment and variety, something that other Varadero hotels I have visited suffer.
In spite of the problems of existing material character, it is worth repeating the season for the warm and welcoming attention they provide.

There are a lot of pluses and minuses for this resort. The people of course are wonderful and the resort is always clean. The pool was great and probably because of the time of year there was never a problem getting chairs. There are no steps into the pool although the most shallow part is about 8 or 9inches with one handrail to help you get in. The beach is lovely and there is a boardwalk which goes quite a distance making it a short walk to the water. The a la cart is one lunch and one dinner which is was quite good and entertainment at the dinner was very relaxing. The view from my room was incredible and at the end of the hall was a balcony which overlooked the ocean and the bay.

They were some problems although most would not be bothered. Stairs... Oh my goodness so many stairs. I knew there was an elevator before I booked but didn't realize that to get from the ground floor to the restaurant was a flight of 17 steps and then more to get into the restaurant itself. The bar is on this level as well and access to the pool. However if you're at the bar and have to use the washroom we have to go back up those 17 steps. The clothes rods in the room is so high that I couldn't reach it and getting into the tub was hard as well. Not built for short people or for those of us who are shrinking. Lol. Not a lot of choice at the buffet, but not sure if this is due to shortages all round. There didn't seem to be a lot of room for more choices.

I did get a 5-hour pass for Wi-Fi but it only works in certain areas. The safe is opened with an old fashioned key and it's not included you have to pay for it.

Would I return? Probably not - but mainly due to the stairs.

I'm already thinking about coming back. As soon as you enter you feel like you are at home, the magnificent hotel staff makes you feel like such (this is not possible in other hotels we have been to) and the facilities reaffirm it, clean, welcoming, everything works within all the difficulties that we know there is on the island and has several activities, entertainment and above all that gem of a beach.
Spacious rooms, with sufficient light points, comfortable, with minibar, iron + board, drip coffee maker, hair dryer and some have European outlets, powerful and hot shower, amenities, paper and enough towels.
The eating areas are well prepared, there are no problems with glasses or cutlery, in the main restaurant they have tablecloths and almost all cutlery. The food is quite varied and if you weren't too happy you had the option of the snack bar where they always had sandwiches or pizzas, we believe that for the price paid it was just what we received, very important there is always ice cream in the buffet hahaha, oh and a pool bar for juices/fruit juices.
The rest of the leisure areas are pleasant, beautiful, the gardens are perfectly cared for, it has a small very cheap ARTEX craft store and a wonderful girl who also sells crafts as well as a little house that sells paintings, etc. It also has a space just for children and some of the paths to the beach take you through a ranch where they hold celebrations and you can have breakfast.
The entertainment team is very good, they always have you doing things, greetings from the 3 Renés!!!!!
I loved the pool although I prefer the beach where they have a catamaran and water bike at no additional cost.
Christmas dinner: Wonderful.- crocodile, roast suckling pig, roast beef, lobster, countless breads and sweets, pouring drink......
To avoid further delay, just a recommendation/request, you need to attach an electric chair for people with reduced mobility so that they do not have to go around almost the entire hotel to get to the reception. Yelena surely takes that into account.
They have gained another loyal customer, I hope to return soon. A huge, immense hug and let them know that they are missed.

Wife, youngest son and I spent 5 days here. Enjoyed the place, played tennis, took kayaks out, got to ride the catamaran, the beach is fantastic! Emilio and Yeilane at the lobby bar are amazing and just plain good people. What a team! And the bed in room 352 was the most comfortable I've had in Cuba (been coming here since 1991).

But there ends the positives for this resort.

The food is repetitve and there is little to choose from. We are not picky eaters, we did not starve. But there really was little to rely on. Mystery burgers were the most reliable staple (mystery because nobody knows what they're made of or if they'll be cooked sufficiently). The à la carte restaurant was ok, but really really small portions. The drinks are nice though. Plenty to drink, made to order and the bar people go out of their way to serve you - tip or no tip. Emilio and Yeilane at the lobby bar, Israel at the pool bar, just to name a few. They made my day every time I dealt with them!

The rooms are small, bed really comfortable, bathroom functionnal, nice shower with plenty of hot water and pressure. We enjoyed the balcony. But there's always somebody moving furniture in somewhere above. 4 am or nap time at 15h, always always noise. We could hear the neighbor snoring, amongst other noises.... Made it quite hard to sleep

The cleaning staff really really worked well and hard. No complaint here.

The pool was very nice, freshly renovated. The beach is amazing. You can't beat the beach in Varadero. That's what keeps me coming back! You might need to fight for beach towels though. Not many available....

The currency desk was reliable and useful. Straight information, clear english. Nice.

Would I come back though? For $605 for 5 days all in? Yes, I would come back. But def not worth more than 2 stars

This hotel has a beautiful beach, lovely building and architecture all around. The staff work extremely hard to satisfy the clients needs. Some rooms are refurbished and some not. All in all a gem of a place to visit. The staff are very kind. The location is good and right on the beach. If there are room issues, be sure to notify reception right away and they will resolve it efficiently. The hotel had a varied spectrum for dining, a la Cart options as well as buffet. The excursions are lovely; try the overnight Trinidad and Seafari with the dolphin visit. Havana day tour was great as well. There is a money currency issue, bring as much money as you wish to have with you as withdrawing money is near impossible at a good rate. Currency conversion is tricky. There is a staff member at the lobby bar who can give you a better exchange then the reception. In general money currency has changed much in Cuba and I am still trying to understand the difference since two years ago. Bring money for tips and gifts for the staff from your country. Something easy for us to buy is near impossible for Cubans. The beach is safe, lifeguards on duty daytime and in general very calm ocean spot. Nightlife is non existent at this hotel after the nightly themed show there isn’t anything to do other then sit at the pool bar, order snacks and drink. So after 10:30 the hotel entertainment is over. If you wish to party you need to get a taxi to go to Calle 62. The hotel has a good club open only Saturday’s, la bamba, fee extra. So, if your looking for a social and entertaining vibe this hotel lacks it for night time events. I know some other hotels have discos nightly and it’s included in the package fee, something to look into. The pools are great although close super early. You can go swimming past 7 pm. The hotel caters to families or couples well not so much solo or single travellers to be honest, that said, the staff are so lovely that I’ll be going back. The design of the building is immaculate.

Me and my friends came to Hotel Tuxpan from Canada. My first time in Cuba and I had high hopes, well they were fulfilled here. The people working here work long, hard hours and always have a smile on their face. They were always so helpful and welcoming to us, cleaning constantly (changing our towels when asked, straightening up room) and maintaining an overall relaxed and positive attitude. Cuba itself is absolutely beautiful but this resort made us feel like we were at home, I felt so comfortable after a night out in Varadero to come back to Tuxpan. The heat can be exhausting at times and the food, while it tasted good, did not fair the best in my stomach- however it was worth it and I would go back in the blink of an eye. This hotel may be 3.5 stars rated but they will go above and beyond to give you a 5 star experience. My best wishes to all the hotel staff and we hope to see you again soon. ❤️

We visited in the second half of February with a child. A cozy small hotel not far from the center (30 min walk with a small child along the road or along the beach or $10 by taxi, fixed price), not many people, which I consider a plus. Excellent beach at the hotel. Sun beds, water activities, everything is there.
The rooms are in normal condition for Cuba, the sockets for our plugs in our room were only on the balcony, so take an adapter. Cleaning every day. There were no mosquitoes or midges.
The food is basically the same: fresh fruit, sweet potatoes, rice, beans, cheese, sausage, sometimes olives, etc., fried fish and meat, served excellent coffee. You won't go hungry. The bars offer champagne, wine, whiskey and other popular drinks)
The staff is smiling, happy to take tips in pesos, dollars or euros or gifts brought. The best service in the hotel bar, especially Adriana, helped me out more than once.
There is a room for children with a children's animator, there was someone to leave the child with)
Adult animation both day and evening with a C grade.

We met Canadians who have already been to Cuba 11 times and 8 times in this hotel. When we asked why they choose this particular hotel, they answered that they are all the same here, but here the staff is friendly and smiling, then why overpay?
Summarizing the above, I recommend this hotel, since I also don’t see any point in overpaying if the problems in almost all hotels are the same.

we arrived at Tuxpan to find a super clean resort and amazing bell hops, that very quickly changed once we hit the front desk as these staff are hard to handle and rude.

Our first room was very very clean and had a beautiful balcony facing the ocean, the beds are hard and needing replacement but we were ok with this as we knew what we booked and have visited Cuba over 20 times to different places. During our first night our toilet started to overflow when flushed so we had to move to the room next door which was the same as the first room.

The ground and pool are AMAZING and kept very very clean, the staff on the grounds, in the pool bar and at the beach are fantastic. The only down side is the entertainment staff is pretty much non exsistant, they do one or two activities through out the day such as bingo or darts but that is it. I have never ever in Cuba seen entertainment or lack of like this. if I could only say one thing it is fix your day time entertainment

The food was good but getting it was hard as they have the area set up very very poorly so when people lign up for the grill you cannot get to anything else, they need to revamp this area so people enter at the grill and then go around and that way if you don't want what is on the grill you can move forward. This turned me off eating at this resort and made the dining room a horrible experience. This resort is full of russions and that added to the fight in the dining room as they bud and push.

We were told on the bus that we would not be getting a welcome meeting from our sunwing rep but if we needed anything to call. They were on site every second day for a few hours but getting to her was impossible as there was a lineup and she didn't stay late. When we were getting picked up by the bus there was not one single person who could tell us what time the bus was coming as it wasn't posted and when we asked the front desk they answered with I don't know. I will be writing to Sunwing over this issue as we figured it out but someone new to cuba or young might not.

I enjoyed this vacation but would try a different resort next time.

The hotel is not cared for, very run down, the rooms are below average. The cleanliness was average, the beds and bathroom clean but the windows and curtains dirty for example. Everything is broken or damaged. The food is below average, although this was expected due to the limited supplies the country has, so it is pretty much exactly the same food everyday. It is definitely not worth 120€ per night, luckily we found a deal for 80€ and only booked 2 nights, although was considering leaving after the first night. There isn’t much to do in varadero mainly the beach so usually the hotel entertainment helps however, this did not. It was a big hard no go 🙄 I would highly recommend staying in a Casa Particular for 25-40€ per night, the rooms are usually nicer than what we have experienced here and the town beach is actually nicer than where the hotels are.
