Visited the hotel resort Tuxpan in Varadero, Cuba last May 2022 with friends from Europe. The service was exceptional and my room was cleaned daily. Shout out to Yelena Gomez, the hotel manager who made every effort to ensure our comfort, satisfaction, and vacation experience. Will definitely be regrouping with friends back at the Tuxpan this December 2022.

It was OK for the price we paid. However, too many mosquitoes. you have to bring a lot of mosquitoes spray with you, otherwise you will end up being good meal for insects and mosquitoes in Varadero. T - The beach is very beautiful with big waves, lots of sun, and extremely hot. - We did not like the guy who worked at the bar near the beach. He always asked us to do the money exchange when we went to the beach which made us feel a little bit annoyed. When we asked the exchange rate, he offered us much more lower than the rate we normally exchange. so a BIG NO, DO NOT EXCHANGE MONEY WITH THE BAR GUY NEAR THE BEACH. He also asked for very high tips, and when we tipped not as much as he asked, then he tole us with that money, we go tip somewhere else. - THE HOUSEKEEPING LADY STOLE my husband cigars. We left 2 cigars on top of the fridge in our room in the morning, and by the time we get back to our room in the afternoon after the lady cleaned the room, the cigars were completely gone. The lady also did not changed the linen as we asked her to. - We left our luggage in the luggage room after checking out to go to downtown varadero to have lunch. When we get our luggage back in Toronto, we ended up being stolen 4 out of 9 rum bottles in the luggage that we bought to gift friends. - The staffs who worked at the pool bar and the buffet was extremely friendly nice. - The food was not really good. They told you that you will have 2 a la carte, but you will never have chance to have dinner a la carte because they only have lunch by the beach, and no desert or wine or anything for the lunch a la carte. We honestly prefer having buffet in the room than having lunch by the beach with the rudeness of the server. - More thing about the food is that you will have to bring our dipping sauce with you when you stay here. The food was extremely bland, tasteless and undercooked so it was raw. Me, my husband and my baby ended up having diarrhea after having raw grilled chicken. By saying, raw, I mean there was blood inside, and the meat was not cooked at all which was disgusting. - However, shout out to the guy who do entertaining events at the hotel. His name was Pablo. He was very kind, and introduced us a tour guide lady who was also very nice and very knowledgeable about Cuba history. - One more thing is that if you want to exchange the money, remember to exchange only 50$ at the hotel at first. You litterally can get a much better exchange rate when you walk around and talk to Cuban people. Most of them do offer better rate. We got 18 at the hotel ( 1CAD = 18 peso), but the second day we got the rate 70 ( 1CAD = 70 peso) which was really good deal. - If you get tired from eating bland food at the hotel, but you get a good exchange rate, I highly redcommend you to visit the El Rancho restaurant which is located in the Varadero centre area. You can pay Peso there. The food was really good, and extremely cheap in Peso. Overall, so far this was the first and also the last trip that I have to this hotel. If I have chance to visit Cuba again, I will deffinitely stay at another hotel, or I will stay in Havana to discover new things.

we arrived at Tuxpan to find a super clean resort and amazing bell hops, that very quickly changed once we hit the front desk as these staff are hard to handle and rude. Our first room was very very clean and had a beautiful balcony facing the ocean, the beds are hard and needing replacement but we were ok with this as we knew what we booked and have visited Cuba over 20 times to different places. During our first night our toilet started to overflow when flushed so we had to move to the room next door which was the same as the first room. The ground and pool are AMAZING and kept very very clean, the staff on the grounds, in the pool bar and at the beach are fantastic. The only down side is the entertainment staff is pretty much non exsistant, they do one or two activities through out the day such as bingo or darts but that is it. I have never ever in Cuba seen entertainment or lack of like this. if I could only say one thing it is fix your day time entertainment The food was good but getting it was hard as they have the area set up very very poorly so when people lign up for the grill you cannot get to anything else, they need to revamp this area so people enter at the grill and then go around and that way if you don't want what is on the grill you can move forward. This turned me off eating at this resort and made the dining room a horrible experience. This resort is full of russions and that added to the fight in the dining room as they bud and push. We were told on the bus that we would not be getting a welcome meeting from our sunwing rep but if we needed anything to call. They were on site every second day for a few hours but getting to her was impossible as there was a lineup and she didn't stay late. When we were getting picked up by the bus there was not one single person who could tell us what time the bus was coming as it wasn't posted and when we asked the front desk they answered with I don't know. I will be writing to Sunwing over this issue as we figured it out but someone new to cuba or young might not. I enjoyed this vacation but would try a different resort next time.

my wife and I have been going to this hotel since 2013 it has changed management twice cuban owed then be live experince .now cubanican owns it again the reason we stay here is it is not to large close to varadero and not a long walk to the beach the staff do everything possible to help you but with limited resourses available.this it cuba you donot have things at hand like we do at home. they do their best to help you.so like all hotels in cuba you have to go with and open mind .we like that every year we go the staff rememder you greet us with open arms from the door man all the way down to the grounds keepers. they have made improvements to the whole reasort.the bars food areas intrenet .it wasnice to see that during these covid times the sanitation was top notch every where in the hotel and thoughout the resort.there was plenty of food and a variaty at all meals getting into cuba as acanadian has allways been trouble free. even with covid 19 we felt safer in cuba than at home.leaving to go home getting your pcr test at the hotel was fast and easy.in finishing my review I would like to thank all the staff and cuban citizens for being so happy to be of service to us patrick and caterine smith

We were happy to take a trip while taking precautions during the pandemic. The resort is well staffed and maintained. The offer PCR testing at the hotel for travelers returning home. The staff go out of their way to be friendly and welcoming. We in turn showed our gratitude which was appreciated.

Arrived late at night the hotel seemed ok. Had a drink and to bed we were exhausted. Wife woke me up there were ants on her bed 😡. She went down to reception and they came to see for themselves. Told us to wait for morning to change rooms. The next day we had to move with no than goodness same floor. The other room was not that good shape curtains falling down, patio door hard to open and the AC controls was broken it was either on or off only no temp control 🙁. Also the night club LaBamba was very loud until 3 AM every night really should be considerate towards the guests. The grounds and the pool were well maintained and the beach was very nice. The bars and the shows were good. The food was not bad seen better but the Christmas party dinner was excellent and the staff except for the reception were excellent.

I stayed at the hotel recently and cannot be more satisfied with the experience. Anybody that has ever gone to any hotel in Cuba knows the limitations with food etc but I always focus on how the staff treats people. I went with my cuban family of 10 and we had a great time. Everyone on the staff, from the director Yelena which I had the opportunity to meet in person all the way down to the security guard that greeted us at the main entrance, everybody was friendly and professional. I stayed on the 4th floor and I already miss having breakfast with the sea view. Looking forward to visiting again!
