Overall impression: We always like to give a run down of our experiences. We certainly hopes it helps someone as they plan their next vacation getaway. Please scroll down to see the section you are most interested in reading. We run a Food and Travel account on Instagram and Facebook. Feel free to see more photos and reels there @the.venture.boys We flew in to Los Cactus, Varadero Cuba to have a weekend getaway in the sunshine for May 24 and we are so happy we did!!! We had the best time. Fantastic weather, amazing staff and the beach is STUNNING. More on that below. If you have never been to Cuba before, we give the following advice: pack some snacks, any condiments that you feel you might need and go with an open mind. You will have the experience that you make of it. You cannot compare Cuba to other Caribbean countries. You will not go hungry but you will not get the variety that you might be expecting elsewhere. Now with this said, we enjoyed what we ate very much and the chefs here do a great job. Cuban hospitality is second to none. You will feel loved and a part of their family. Restaurants: We only had time for two dinners. Our first was the Mediterranean Restaurant- it was just beautiful! Pedro and the team here were so kind, helpful and friendly. We had the best meal! A few of our delicious menu items included: - Fried cheese - Prosciutto and cucumber - Lobster and pumpkin - Lasagna - Prosciutto pizza - Seafood and asparagus soup - Tiramisu, chocolate ice cream and chocolate cake - Lemon Daquiri and Banana Daquiri So fresh, flavourful and filling! We would have eaten here every day if we could! On our second night, the Chefs and service department put on a special dinner for us - they put out all the stops. We had a beautiful table set up for date night. They sure made us feel special. One of our travel tips is to make sure to ask what is available on your stay. Hotels often have a variety of special offers or options for guests as they really want your vacation to be whatever it needs to be! The staff at this resort go above and beyond. From our conversations with patrons, many are repeat guests and keep coming back because it feels like coming home! Alexis put out a great spread from the culinary team. We are a big fan of bubbles when on vacation, so that was a nice touch. Our meal included: - prosciutto flower and spicy salami on a crust with whipped cream cheese. - chicken soup - tender lobster, shrimp, pork loin with rice and vegetables. - strawberry ice cream and a sweet vanilla cake and their famous chocolate cake - they have an incredible pastry chef. We love all the chocolate art. Beautiful and tasty! - Cava - you know we love bubbles! We loved the table decor and the ambiance that the spot had. Just beautiful! Thank you to everyone. We ate breakfast and lunch at the Buffet. We like to keep those two meals super simple. Eggs and toast in the morning. They cooked our eggs to our liking and their homemade bread was fluffy and very tasty. We really loved the fresh pasta station at lunch (pesto sauce was phenomenal). We also really loved their flatbread - it is similar to focaccia bread. The staff here are friendly and we loved that many of them have been here for 20-30 plus years. The hotel was not at capacity which makes it harder for them to have the variety they usually do. But, we had great meals and lots of fun. Bars: Where to start! They have quite a few and we worried we missed a few. There is a really nice bar that overlooks the property by the Fitness area. The bartender is one of the nicest humans we met on this trip. She let us film a bit - so make sure to check out our reel. They also have a cozy bar by the Mediterranean restaurant, the pathway to the beach and one by the pool. The lobby bar was probably the best stocked. We love our Havana Club 7- so we went there a few times before heading to beach. Room: The room that we purchased for the weekend trip was the Super Select room. It was on the second floor right beside the pool. At first, we worried it might be loud but we didn’t hear a thing! Though the room is dated and in need of renovation, it was spacious (had a seating room that could have been a second bedroom) a moderately sized bathroom with a shower tub combo and a king sized bed (very comfortable). We also really enjoyed the giant terrace style balcony. I’m sure we would have used it more had we been there longer. The most important thing for us was cleanliness. It was very clean. Beach: Cuban beaches are typically beautiful. You will find stretches of sandy beaches and bright blue hues. We are beach people. Besides the amazing people we have met here, the beach is why we come!! This stretch of beach where Los Cactus is located was perfect. No seaweed (odd little spec here and there), very clear, warm and only got a tiny bit wavy in the afternoons. If you are worried/nervous about swimming, it was easy to get in and out of and was shallow. We had to walk a bit out to be submerged. Highly recommend this stretch of beach. Pools: We did not swim in the pool or the many hot tub style pools on this trip. However, the giant pool was very clean. Looks like some renovations are in order with the liner but that didn’t stop anyone from having a good time. Our final thoughts. We love that this is an adults only resort. This resort is very reasonably priced. We want to give a big shout out to the many staff we met in only a few days. Thank you for all that you do for your guests. We have visited Cuba 14 times over the years at 5 different locations because we feel safe and the Cuban People are friendly. We stayed at Hotel Los Cactus 9 times and it was our favorite location. Over the years we tolerated the birds flying inside the Buffet Restaurant. This year we observed the birds eating from the food area and from peoples plates. The birds also left droppings on tables and chairs which transferred to our clothes. Unless something is done about this we will find another resort to visit.

A nice experience that I would like to repeat soon. Attention that made me feel at home. The rooms are always clean as if it were the first day of receiving me. And, how not to mention that Dunas bar that makes you rejuvenate with its view of the sea. Thanks to all the hotel staff it was great!

We spent a fabulous 2weeks at Los Cactus. The beach was as amazing as always and the staff were so welcoming. We had a great room in I block which was very comfortable.The food was very good in the buffet and excellent in the A la carte restaurants. We loved the view from the Duna bar and always had pre dinner drinks there. The coffee bar was another favourite spot where Mabel made the best Spanish coffee. We golfed a few afternoons and it wasn’t busy at all.No problem to get a cart.The staff as usual went out of their way to make our stay unforgettable. Can’t wait for October which will be our 25th visit.

Best family vacation. The breakfast buffet has alot of selection and the best omelettes .The pool bar has the best daiquiris. The lobby bar has great service. The rooms are clean and simple but have everything you need. Anyways with the Dunas Bar and the pool next to the Buffet you won’t be in your rooms.The managers go above and beyond to give amazing customer service. Thanks to everybody!!!

My now Husband along with 23 of our friends recently visited this resort, and returned the first week of april after a 2 week stay. This was our first time to this resort and other than 5 of our guests so it was also the first time for 18 others that travelled with us. Be Live Los Cactus was recommended to us by family members who had been there before that had absolutely loved the resort and advised we would not be disappointed. So we planned our Dream wedding and honeymoon around this recommendation and I want to tell you we were definitely NOT disappointed at all. Let me begin by telling you that the Beach is the most beautiful beach I have ever seen, crystal clear turquoise water and the white sandy beach was absolutely beautiful and clean. The pool was also very enjoyable, clean, cool and refreshing with all kinds of fun entertaining things to participate in or a relaxing space to enjoy. Both had lots of chairs, loungers and shade or sun whichever you prefer. The average age group at this resort was 50 which was perfect for us all. Everyone we meet from the other vacationers to the staff were extremely friendly and fun! We all made lots of new friends a lot of which were repeat visitors of this resort which speaks volumes to me. The rooms here are very spacious and very well kept by the amazing housekeeping staff. The grounds are mature as is the resort so we had beautiful flowers trees in include in our wedding photographs. This resort went above and beyond for us as well as all my guests and treated us all like kings and queens. Upon arrival we were all greeted with friendly faces and smiles with all staff ready to help in anyway they could. We didn't actually arrive until 10:30 pm so this was absolutely fabulous! Once we were escorted to our rooms we continued to enjoy the resort by going to the 24 hr pool bar to enjoy late night refreshments which were delicious and also ordered food at the late night grill in the buffet, It was great! The Wedding was without a hitch, more beautiful than I ever expected, truly my dream wedding. The resort (Lizbeth) took care of everything from the wedding party's flowers, to the music I had requested, the reception Menu and Dinner afterwards in the Italian Restaurant to the prewedding bachelor and bachelorette party at the Dunna Bar ( my favorite place on the resort) , besides the beach and pool lol Our Honeymoon week (2nd week) was also the best, relaxing on the resort, taking in all the entertainment and activities the resort has to offer we always had something fun and enjoying to do. We also went into Varadero to eat, shop and site see which was so much fun. We used the double decker bus and took drives in the classic cars all available to everyone in need. All very inexpensive to use. We all felt very safe when going anywhere off the resort which was big for us being in a different country. The food was good , not great but good and that's to be expected in Cuba, but they absolutely were very creative and offered everything they had available to us everyday! I personally loved the fresh bread everyday, the lobster, the chicken and the different types of rice they made, there's no way anyone would ever go hungry here. I especially loved all of the sweets and ice cream offered at every meal. I can't say enough good about this resort and that we will definitely be joining the repeaters by going back on a regular basis, the price is right the resort is beautiful and fun and the people are the best!! I can't wait until March of next year when we return to see all of our new friends. I highly suggest you go to this resort if your looking for a resort to visit for relaxation, fun, entertainment, and overall enjoyment!!
