Two weeks of great experience at Melia Las Antillas (March 7 – 21). Stayed in the renovated room #4104 in the main hotel buiding and were more than happy with it. We spent most of the time we spent at immaculate beach. Beach and ocean here are simply perfect. Food was pretty good. Even though we heard some complaints from people staying in other hotels, we cannot share the same experience here. The selection was good and we always had a few different options to choose from. Quality entertainment was provided every night. We especially enjoyed the 21:30 ones (traditional dances, rock band, opera, pool ballet, guests competition, etc). ***All the staff, from the cleaning ladies, staff at all bars, buffet, la carte restaurants, maintenance guys, management, front desk, etc. were very kind and treated us carefully with a lot of attention and the smile. It is much appreciated. Thank you, and we love you guys. Some areas of the hotel would appreciate an extra touch, fresh paint, and some renovations. The staff is doing its best to keep it clean though. Recommended tip is in CDN$, USA$, Euros. If you are exchanging any money to Cuban Pesos, be careful; do not exchange big amounts because you cannot exchange it back to Canadians and are stuck with it when leaving the country. Went on a few trips and felt safe wherever we went. We love Cuba. If you go to Cuba, please bring some hygiene products, school supplies, clothing, etc to give away. They will be very thankful. We definitely recommend staying at Melia Las Antillas hotel and will be back, for sure. …
What a wonderful place to spend a vacation. From the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out the resort couldn’t do enough for us. We spent two weeks there and watched the staff from the management right down through to the front line grounds care team working hard to keep the resort in excellent shape. The resort is dated but everything works so no issues. The food, contrary to other reports is edible. Keep in mind this is Cuba. The best part of the experience is the staff. What wonderful people to have an experience with! The front desk, the cleaners, the food services, the bars and managers are all awesome. If I was to single out some special people it would be Daylis the sales manager who looked after our stay, both Naidelys and Ibusi in the concierge lounge on the fifth floor of the main building, Maladie at the pool bar and of course Enrique who checked on us at 5he pool continuously to ensure we didn’t need anything. I also must recognize the guys who look after the pool. I didn’t get their names but what an excellent effort goes into keeping the pool clean and usable. The evening shows and daily entertainment provide the guests with lots to do or one can just chill and enjoy the weather and water. The only negative is the airport in Varadero, the Cuban government should put some effort into improvements given the revenue that comes into the area. If you go expect the entry and exit to the country to be the only negative for the trip. Also don’t forget to take chocolate for the staff members. They LOVE Canadian chocolate or any chocolate for that matter. In closing thank you to all the team members at the resort for their love and hard work. What a wonderful culture!…
Stayed 2 weeks in a great room on 5th floor, VIP service. Our two Concierge ladies Greter and Naidelys were outstanding - very caring and kind. They arranged all our dinner reservations, made sure I got plentiful fruit daily to help my digestion. We enjoyed tea, coffee and cappuccino in their lounge daily, along with pastries, buns, pancakes, etc. Food in the buffet seemed similar to most years I’ve been there, the hot stations for omelettes or dinner time pasta are still the best IMHO. The reserved restaurants had great staff and some tasty offerings. Special shout-out to Marthe at the Peperone, and all the staff at the Romantico. We found the Cuban restaurant staff less welcoming. The beach and pool are both clean and inviting. Games at the pool start about 4pm and can get quite noisy. Lots of lounge chairs around the pool as the resort wasn’t that full. However too many people throw their towels on 2 prime loungers and then disappear for 4 or more hours. Really annoying and selfish. The pool also has covered sunbeds available but they’re always empty as they require $20/day to use one. I find that excessive for plastic mattresses, many have cracks or small tears in them. I’d suggest Melia reconsider this “perk” and make it more affordable and/or include them for VIP guests. They’re laying empty making no money most days. The bar service on the beach was good - friendly service right at your lounger. Bar service at the pool bar was terrible. The middle aged woman serving at the bar never smiled, didn’t chat, was completely unfriendly even though we tipped every time we went for a drink. A change is really needed there. As the main bar for daytime lounging, there should be someone there who likes people and adds to the fun. The lobby bar for evenings was better as long as we lined up for our own drinks. There was very little service at the outside or inside tables. An extra server or 2 would make a big difference. Some evenings we sat for 2 hours with no service. The outdoor early evening music was very good, but basically the same songs every night. Some variety would be welcome. We really enjoyed the pianist when he played in the lobby. The shows we saw at the outdoor theatre were good entertainment. Our housekeeper kept our room fresh and tidy and was very nice. The young fellow working the front desk in the evenings needs to learn more about customer service and satisfaction. We found him to be gruff and not welcoming when we arrived late on Feb 26th. He didn’t give us the 5th floor room we’d paid for. We had to arrange a move to 5th floor the next day, which wasted 1/2 our day. The following week, he told another Cdn couple, who’s 1030pm flight home was postponed until 3pm the next day, that they’d have to stay in the lobby overnight. I told them to insist on speaking to a manager or hotel director - magically they got their room back for the night. Overall we had a great time and we love the Cuban people, just a few tweaks needed to make las Antilles all it can be again.…
Such a wonderful personalized experience. All staff were so kind and attentive. Will be back next year for sure. Lobby bar staff Ramon and Anna and Chau Chau in entertainment and Norberto at the beach bar are my favorite!!💗💗💗
We just had a wonderful week at Melia Las Antillas. We usually spend most of out time at the beach and it and the pool were all we could ask for. They were clean and there was never a shortage of chairs or service at either location. Service in general at this location, housekeeping, food and bartending, were all very good. The beach bar staff, Colon, Raul and Jorge made us smile everyday. We were also especially pleased with Greter, Ibeisi and Naidelys in Fifth Floor Concierge who went out of their way to make us comfortable. Naidelys was especially helpful on one occasion when my husband, who is a type one diabetic, found himself with a low blood sugar early in the morning. We always travel with the required candy etc. but weren't sure we would have enough to get us to breakfast and she delivered juice and sweets to our room. Our room was very comfortable and kept very clean by housekeeping. The bed was the most comfortable we've had in all of our visits to Cuba and for the first time ever, I didn't use the extra pillowcases I brought from home as the pillows smelled fresh and clean as opposed to musty and damp. As is the case at most resorts in Cuba right now, there were some inconsistencies with what was available for food and drinks. On one night no white wine in the buffet, another no pina colada at the pool or gin in the lobby. These situations were usually temporary and we were always able to find something else to our liking to eat and drink. We are both 50 years old and found this resort to have the perfect mix of entertainment/activities and quiet. We were especially impressed with the Cuban Day entertainment and food and the evening cocktail party for Canadians. They both felt like nice little extras and were well done. We recommend this resort and will definitely hope to be lucky enough to return. …
I had the pleasure of doing a mother/daughter trip the week of March 10-17th at the Melia las Antillas. I won’t say that there weren’t hiccups on our trip but nothing that wasn’t dealt with swiftly by the resort to what was within their control. Throughout our week we had the joy of getting to know staff as well as guests from both our resort and others. We were surprised to find out things that we were lucky to have at our resort that others didn’t have. We stayed in a deluxe pool view room on the second floor which was wonderful because we could also hang out on our balcony and still hear what is going on in the pool. We had some staff that also made our trip that much better. First the beach bar staff, Raúl, Jorge Luis and Colón. These guys always would greet you with a smile and a friendly conversation when on the beach Colón would be working very hard running up and down the beach bringing guest drinks to their chair which was such a luxury to have. I would recommend to bring your own cup as the plastic ones are small and they will even take your cup from your beach chair to fill it for you. Even the time I spent at the pool I would walk to the beach bar to grab my drinks. They seem to run out of things through out the week like there wasn’t any vodka and only sprite for the first few days but there was always something to drink. I also found that if the lobby bar or pool bar didn’t have something they would have it at the beach bar. Both Nacho, and Leonardo on the entertainment team were wonderful, they were engaging and fun to play a few of the activities with. Generally speaking in the morning they had activities at the beach and by the pool in the afternoon. Myself, I also had the joy of being able to talk with Roberto Carmona who is the food and beverage Director. He would be in the buffet every day with a smile and some small conversation. Our buffet had fish throughout our week, which seemed to be in short supply at other resorts, the desserts were always wonderful. It was also nice that they had an indoor and outdoor grill they would use both at lunch and dinner for different things. Some foods were very repetitive but there was never a shortage of something to eat. Mind you both my mom and my self aren’t big or picky eaters. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back here again.…
The beach bar staff were excellent! Colon was hustling on the beach serving drinks, Jorge Luis & Raul were pouring at a torrid pace, while engaging the tourists in conversation. The mixed drinks were consistant, which is hard to get at other resort islands. The pool bar staff was equally pleasant and courteous to the patrons. A few that need to be recognized for their efforts are Youdani, Yanat, Enriques and Pscina. Great experience at this resort. Freddy & Sheryl
I don’t normally write reviews on my vacations, but I feel I have to share how lovely this trip has been. We stayed from March 10-17 with the VIP package. Check in - our flight was delayed and we got to the hotel very late. I was dreading the check in process, however, the front desk was seamless and we were in our room escorted by the bellboy within minutes. Room - having booked the VIP package, our room was on the fifth floor, which was accessible by elevator. Our room was clean, always had hot water, a working safe, and was tended to daily by the maids. Concierge lounge - having booked the VIP package, on the fifth floor there is a VIP lounge. The lounge is open 7am-7pm and always had a nice spread of snacks and drinks available with a delightful concierge at your service. The concierge was also very helpful in booking our special dinners and our VIP lobster dinner. This was not something I have experienced before, and would definitely pay for again. Beach - the beach was lovely, well maintained, and had amazing service. Each morning there was someone on the beach to greet you and help you get a chair in your desired location. What made this beach so amazing and unlike others in Cuba was the service. Raúel and Jorge Luis behind the bar were great, and Colón providing on the beach chair side service was top notch. I would recommend this place just for this service alone! The beach service truly made you feel special! Pool - the pool was a great place to hang out on the windier day. With a lot of space it was always easy to get a spot around the pool. Food - the food is typical of what you would find at many resorts in Cuba. There was many options at the buffet for every meal. The A la carta restaurants offered fantastic meals with great service. If you visit I hope you have the pleasure to be served by Miguel as he made these special dinners memorable. If you book the VIP package, you will get to experience a fantastic lobster dinner in addition to the provided a la carta dinners. …
Comfortable resort, with STUNNING beaches! Beautiful sunny weather, 27-30 degrees each day. The Cuban people are lovely. If staying at this resort, we highly recommend you pay a bit extra and stay on the 5th floor, the concierge floor. The two concierges: Naidelys and Greter were amazing. Anything we wanted or need, they arranged, including cappuccinos on our balcony every morning and a wonderful day trip to Havana with our own driver and guide, in a 1955 Chevy Belair no less! They are awesome!!
The best part, for us, was the Beach Bar and it's crew. ***Colon, Raul, and Jorge Luis were exceptional.*** Those three had great energy and enhanced the experience, every day. The on-beach service was amazing! Being able to lounge on the beach and have your order taken and delivered (accurately, promptly, and with a smile) was a huge bonus. Well worth every dollar tipped! Cheers, one last time, gents. :) Lots of other positives: -The lobby bar staff was friendly and attentive, 24h a day. -Snack bar open 24h was helpful for travelers we arrive late, as we did. -The pool was well maintained and was enjoyable to spend parts of the day around/in. -Local music set a good vibe by the pool, but a bit loud at times -The Beach Party evening event (9pm-1am) and the Water Ballet were awesome! The singing/dancing at the other shows was also a nice taste of the local culture. -Piano bar was a nice touch and the seating options (indoor and outdoor) on the 'main 'floor provided many spaces to hang out. -Quality food in the buffet. Not 5* dining, but a solid variety with friendly staff at every turn. Omelette bar and fish/chicken grills were a nice touch. -The hotel room bathroom was far from modern, but more than serviceable. -The resort was lovely to stroll around as a result of so many trees, shrubs/bushes. Great visual appeal versus clear-cutting an area for a new/modern massive indoor facility.…
