As the title says, old and tired and it is. The location is perfect with beautiful white sands and turquoise seas but the room, the beds and all the furnishings in desperate need of refurbishment. To summarise this review, I will say don’t use this hotel and in fact I’d give very careful thought to visiting (Cuba) at all due to the lack of basic commodities available that tourists normally expect.
Just back after the best holiday This is a lovely small hotel, all the staff ate friendly Rooms are a bit tired but clean Pool area and beach are spotless, plenty sunbeds/deckchairs Food is a-bit repetitive but thats due to shortages all over Cuba You wont go hungry The staff can’t do enough for you, by time you leave they will know your favourite drink and have it waiting for you Please ignore the negative reviews
What an amazing fortnight we have just spent in this hotel. The staff are amazing. So friendly. Even the gardeners waved at us every morning. The gardens were immaculate with humming birds fluttering round the flowers in the bushes and brightly coloured woodpeckers hammering in the trees. The food was really good. Always plenty of choice. Fish, pork, chicken and beef served lunch and dinner and the desserts are to die for beautifully presented. The rooms are large and spotlessly clean. The beach is beautiful and the sea is so tempting. Plenty of chairs on the beach and round the amazing pool. Entertainment team worked tirelessly throughout the day and evening keeping guests entertained with many activities both on the beach/pool and theatre. Thank you Tainos. We will be back.
Warning: long winded review Just reading some Tanios reviews on a lazy Sunday afternoon in January and realized that it’s been far too long since we have shared our experience with this wonderful hotel. We are avid travellers who do like the all inclusive type of resort and have done 22 different ones so far and well over 40 trips throughout the years. This has included the very top on the line properties to the “not so great “ . Although we always choose 4 star or better we all know that stars are all very “relative”. There are a hand full of resorts we’ve returned to more than once but we have been to Tanios 13 times (I think lol). This is truly like our second home. There are so many reviews that say “you don’t go to Cuba for the food” “ You can’t expect that “you’re in Cuba” , If you want 4or 5 star “don’t go to Cuba”. As far as we’re concerned we DO want and expect a great holiday…we work hard for our vacation like most people do and look very forward to a relaxing enjoyable time. I think it’s impossible to remember that even in your own country things aren’t always perfect. I have been at many top notch hotels and restaurants in Canada and have been sorely disappointed. Sometimes that just happens. I have been in the Customer Service Industry for over 40 years and know that the most important thing an establishment can offer is Great Customer Service. This is the thing that keeps people coming back. This is a strange time in the world and there are supply chain issues everywhere. Before you go, do some homework, read the reviews and if it’s important to you bring it with you. You would probably do that if you were going on a vacation in your own country. This resort has withstood the test of time. They are constantly repairing, repainting and trying to generally keep up however the supply chain issues are causing delays and resulting in the repair of tiles in the pool, new furniture etc. The staff at this hotel are truly second to none..Many have been there since the hotel opened in 2000 but all of them make this place a place to come back to! Jania at guest services, Evis, George the 2 Julio’s, Daisy, Fernando, Beatrice, Heidy, Tamara,Reisel, there really are too many to name. As far as the food goes it has been better some years than others..when we’re we’re there in Nov the choices were somewhat limited but very tasty. I find that you can always find something to eat. Again we have been at so called”high end” resorts in other countries and had the same experience. Just like home there are good restaurants and bad restaurants..it depends on the day. No matter what has happened in this crazy world since 2000 this resort keeps calling us back to Cuba. Can’t wait to see you all in April!😀🌴❤️🌞…
We have had the best time at Iberostar Tainos Staff are so friendly helpful and kind. We felt like royalty the whole time we were here. Rooms were kept clean everyday. Food was amazing. We will be back.
Enjoyed our stay immensely. The grounds are beautiful-so relaxing! Entertainment is lively and food is great and bountiful. The staff is friendly and helpful. Will definitely come back!We had a blast
Amazing resort! Super friendly staff! Room was very spacious and incredibly clean. I would highly recommend this resort! It's a smaller resort so everything is nice and close to any of the rooms. The beach is incredible!!
Love this resort, beach and pool are amazing and the people too. it was our second time ,we came with our daughter and had a blast, definitely will be coming back as soon as possible, drinks and food not best but it was good ok
We were a mixed group staying at this hotel, Two couples stayed for one week and the other three couples (including us) stayed for two weeks. Although we traveled as couples were are all family. Traveling with adult children is much more relaxing! If you are the type of person who like to be waited on, have the very best and only the best of everything, Cuba is not for you! If you enjoy caravan/RV get aways and trying new foods and adventures then Cuba is a wonderful place to visit. Cuba is a third world country experiencing major shortages in everything we as first world accupants take for granted - Food, Clothing, Medicine, Cleaning supples the list goes on. We have been to Cuba many times prior to the Covid debacle that shut down the world and we find this hotel is just the right size. Not so big as to have to trek to the beach, pool, lobby and buffet. We stayed in a bungalow overlooking the pool right at the center of the resort. You can definitely see the bumps and bruises around the hotel from the hurricane damage. Yes it needs a coat of paint and some TLC inside and out. That said the rooms were clean and the cleaning staff were amazing! We had an issue with our air conditioner leaking for two days. Maintenance staff were on it and managed to get it fixed, housekeeping made sure that the room was mopped up right away! Food - Many people here have complained about the food. Yes folks, buffet food is bland. My son in law works in the food industry here at home and he said that they do not add too much spice or flavour to buffet dishes. It is easier to add spicy heat than it is to reduce it. Those in our group who like hot stuff enjoyed trying the various hot sauces and flavoured salts that were available every evening in the buffet. We did notice that there were fewer options than what was there pre pandemic. Knowing that food is in short supply throughout Cuba and also knowing that Iberostar imports many food items, we were more than happy with our choices. The cheese availabe were amazing! The buffet staff were so very attentive. Thank you Roberto, Beatrice and the few we met but didn't get the names of. After an unfortunate medical incident that happened in the buffet one morning, we had a staff member assist us in moving tables. He was calm and pleasent throughout the incident, even passing on to the first aiders that we were wiling to help if need be. I am sorry I didn't get his name. Two in our party have severe seafood allergies. Yes the epi-pen kind of allergies! They made sure to get to the buffet as soon as the doors opened to find food to eat. I was surprised by how many guests grabbed a serving spoon and stuck the one spoon into every dish in front of them! Yikes! I was impressed that the Japanese restaurant was very accomodating by cooking the fish on a separate grill! Thank you! I would recommend that the restaurant keep all the seafood together to limit cross contamination for people with allergies. Entertainment - We did not stay up at night to take in the evening shows. Traveling with a toddler made that a tad difficult. I am not sure if the kids went to the shows or not. We did enjoy the musical performances out side of the buffet. What a wide selection of performances! I truely enjoyed them. During our first week at the resort we found there was very little happening around the pool. One of the staff said it was due to the New Year's Eve gala preperations that were going on. There were a few activities around the pool, but the beach was the place to be if you wanted to play games. They had several on the go whenever we were down there. After the new year we noticed activities start up around the pool, but were asked to give tips to play. This was a first for us, so we enquired with management who stated that the pool/beach activities were all inclusive. We noticed that very few people around the pool where participating the few times games were announced. We were very thankful for the support of Ana, Roxanne and Julio from the entertainment staff for making us feel at home. We found the Iberostar Manager was very personable and approachable. He took time to listen to our concerns and ask for more information. My husband had many chats with him during our stay. Even the staff we talked to seemed happy with him. I was very impressed with the bar staff at the Lobby, Pool and Beach bar! They engaged my grandson when we went up for drinks asking him what he wanted. It was wonderful to see him treated as a real person in a resort like this! The best bar tenders in Cuba have to be working at the Tainos! Thank you to George, Daisy, Mayelin, Julio, Juan Carlos, Yadaisy, Reisel, William, and all the others who served us! The Beach - is amazing! We noticed that there were fewer beach umbrellas than in past years. But there seemed to be enough loungers for those who wanted them. We only had a few days that were calm enough for water sports and the staff looking after the boats were awesome. The weather finally co operated in the second week and we all got out for a sail. The Pool - its is obvious that the pool needs some attention. But the type of work it needs can't be done when it is full of water. I do hope that the hotel has the opportunity to drain and fix the tiles this year. There was a wonderful man who looked after the pool every morning (a chilly job in December) who always had a smile on his face and a cheery hello. He would come around and collect dishes during the day. He never failed to smile and say Hello to us! I only wish I remembered his name. I would see him at the end of the day re arranging the lounge chairs, a thankless job. The Front Desk - the staff here are amazing! They are so accommodating and patient with the guests. They treat everyone with courtesy and answer all of your questions! Even when the door card machine quit working on New Year's they handled the chaos amazingly well. Thank you to Heidy, Daylin, Claudia and another wonderful person whose name I can't remember. The rum recommendations were spot on! I would strongly recommend anyone who visits this hotel and Cuba to take a tour away from the Varadero pennisula and see some of the real Cuba. We spent a few days visiting with some of our Cuban friends outside of the resort. Some of the best memeries came from these days! Many thanks to the wonderful security man who gifted my Grandson some wooden cars! My grandson said good morning to him whenever he passed by our Bungalow each early morning. This act of kindness will stay with all of us! Thank you sir! Our biggest draw back of our holiday was the rudeness of other guests staying there. The people who handled several bread items with their bare hands only to leave them all for others to eat. The kids who filled bowls with ice cream and then left them on top of the clean plates. This I found very off putting. During a few day of our stay there was a group of 6 youth running around the pool playing tag who came very close to knocking my son in law into the pool and stepping on my Grandson's hand while he picked a toy up from the end of my lounge. This group was also chasing birds through the resort and throwing things into the pool at night. Not a parent to be seen during any of this. Again the Hotel management was sensitve to our concerns. I realize that this can happen at any all inclusive anywhere.…
Another wonderful trip to Tainos, great to see my Cuban family, despite all the situation with covid I have found food really good despite the lack of products due to all pandemic situations. We will definitely be back.
