Have you heard of the Tainos? They were the indigenous inhabitants of Cuba, and were the first to discover the beauty of the waters of Varadero. With the simplicity of wellness as our hallmark and standing a few metres away from a vast beach, the Iberostar Tainos was designed in the style of a Caribbean village. Become a resident for a few days, immersed in a stunning natural environment including a cave with pre-Colombian paintings and the Varahicacos ecological reserve. The little ones will meet at Star Camp to laugh like never before while learning values and making new friends. If you like sport, you have dozens of options to choose from. If you want to unwind, you can enjoy live music every night. If the sea is more your thing, we have two important things for you: a welcome and congratulations.

The Iberostar Origin Taínos hotel garners praise for its exemplary service, with staff often described as friendly and efficient, though some guests note occasional inconsistencies. The resort's beach and grounds are celebrated for their beauty and cleanliness, and while the rooms are generally appreciated for their spaciousness, some guests have encountered maintenance issues.
The vibrant atmosphere, complete with daily music and evening entertainment, is a highlight, yet some travelers feel that the cost does not always equate to the value received.

We have been to Tainos numerous times, this year we decided to get married there, after dreaming of a beach wedding in the Caribbean for many years
It was the best decision we made
Everything was taken care of for us
And it was amazing and memorable.
Exactly what we wanted. Jania at guest services did an amazing job.
She was easy to contact, answered our questions promptly And made sure we got everything we wanted.
What keeps us going back is the amazing staff . We love them all ,from the friendly faces that greet you at reception, the dining room staff, Jeni, Beatriz , Melang,
The bar staff, yadaisy is the best, we love her so much.
Yoslayne, yudel, Juan Carlos, Reisel,
The staff at both the Japanese and Cuban restaurants
And all the entertainment staff
Aliuska with all the dancing lessons on the beach, Elvis for keeping us entertained and all the amazing dancers that entertained us nightly .
The resort is clean, the food is good
Every night there is something different to eat .
We travelled with sunwing as we do every year
This year we had a problem with our luggage, it only arrived on our third day . One hour before our wedding
Sunwing was prompt with compensation for missing luggage,
There is a vip lounge at the airport in Varadero that we took this year, for a fee ,of course.
I highly recommend it,
It’s air conditioned, they bring you ham and cheese panini , you can drink alcohol, coffee, soft drinks ,
Clean washroom . We will certainly take it next trip.
For us Iberostar Tainos is the only place for us and we cannot wait for our next trip ,

We traveled the last week of January. It was the first time at this resort and have no complaints. It was on the smaller side which was just what we were looking for. The staff at this resort is the reason we would go back. Ally who is with the entertainment staff was lovely she made our trip so much more enjoyable I’d go back just to see her and Julio. Julio works at the pool bar and will make you the best capachino!!!! The rooms were clean and comfortable. The main buffet is typical Cuban, but we don’t go to Cuba for the food. The beach is breathtaking which is the reason we go. If you want a nice quiet and clean resort, with some of the best people you’ll meet in Cuba try the Tainos They have a lot of repeat guests and I can see why.
I had a massage while I was there 30 minutes for $20 I thought it was worth it and he was very professional. There are some shoppes in the main lobby that were pretty well stocked in case you forgot anything. The lobby can be uncomfortable at night if you’re not a smoker, but there are some great outdoor seating areas to enjoy a drink after dinner.

We were there from January 29 to February 6, 2020. We were also there in December 2018. Both times we loved it and we will return it for sure. For people who do not like big resort, this is the place to go. You can either relax as you want either at the beach or by the pools or participate in the activities. The resort landscape is very well taken care of. The pools are clean, entertainment is great during the day and in the evening. Nice band and singer(s) are very good. Either you eat at the buffet, the Japanese or the Cuban restaurant the food is great. Those who complain that Cuba's food is not good, just remember you are in another country, don't expect that it taste the same as in your country. This is our 16th trip in Cuba, in Cayo Guillermo, Cayo Coco, Holguin and Varadero and everytime we ate very well. As returnees, you are invited for a cocktail and meet Management staff of the resort, the Chef in charge of the restaurants and food. Jania our wonderful Cient Service representative, she is so cheerful and friendly. Not to mention Julio at the lobby who takes care of your luggages. He is a very hard worker and very nice person. We have nothing to complain about the staff, they are very nice, not to mention our Cleaning lady Eliem, in our Bungalow room, always made sure our beds and the room was very well cleaned. Not to mention also the waiters and waitresses who are doing a very good job and are very nice. My husband and I recommend this beautiful little gem's resort that we discovered through a friend two years ago.

Our 8th time to Cuba but first time to Varadero. I had higher expectations for an Iberostar hotel, but I also know these are difficult times for Cuba during Covid. Beach was fantastic. The staff for the most part very friendly and helpful. Food was pretty good considering the limited variety. The coffee served in the cafeteria was quite disappointing, but thankfully we found one bartender capable of making a decent cappuccino. Beds were very comfortable which is greatly appreciated. The pool, lounge chairs, and gardens were well maintained. There is no swim-up bar if that’s your thing. Extremely high marks for using paper straws and NOT serving drinks in disposable plastic cups! Other hotels up and down the beach continue this horrible practice and you’ll find cups and straws littering the beach. Reminder to bring your own reusable thermal mug…keeps you drink cold, holds more, and you’ll feel better not contributing to the single-use plastic problem.
However, our rooms in the main building were a bit tired and require maintenance. We had to struggle to open the patio doors in our rooms. One bathroom had a sewer-gas odor and was overdue for a complete renovation. The tennis court was in poor condition.

I will start this by saying that the only good thing about this hotel is its staff they are excellent they are all 5 star but the food and food handling is nothing short of terrifying at the BBQ area whilst getting a tuna roll the lady put the buns on the grill then put raw chicken on the grill and using the same tongs tried to put onion on my roll , The same tongs plastic coated are used for raw and cooked food not good . The dinning room we observed the staff put cookies back on the serving counter from someones left plate as well as the ceiling falling in and on the last night it had obviously collapsed as a bed sheet had been tacked over the hole ,when it rains water runs down the walls and birds were seen regularly flying up into the vents and holes in the ceiling . The food is not kept hot we arrived 10 minutes after opening and took some rice from the bottom of the paella pan this was tepid at best pizzas were also cold and some nights the food tasted as if a box of salt had been emptied into it . I am not a fussy eater under any circumstances but i really struggled to find something to enjoy. If you are a vegetarian or have allergies this hotel is not for you there is no clear labelling of food in any language and in the end we joked about every night was mystery dinner night. I realise there are issues but this was not that as food was plentiful hot and tasty elsewhere . I have visited Cuba before so was aware there may be issues but this was way beyond this.
The room was a good size and kept clean the drinks fridges no longer have soft drinks or beer in them, as previously stated the first few days the air con was good but in our 2nd week it was no better than a fan.
Entertainment around the pool and beach was good but the evening performances were spoilt by the in-house entertainment team standing at the door with hats out for tips every night to the extent that we felt pressured to give I have never come across this before from an in-house team
Bars and drinks were fine somethings ran out at different bars but most things available at all times I dont believe that drinks were watered down all the bar staff were helpful and knew our drinks by our cups take your own thermal cups as its hot and only small plastic cups are available. I will finish by saying that the staff and people we met there and spent time with made our holiday if not for them i would have moved hotels . I will not be returning to this hotel

This was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. It's old, dirty and the food is disgusting. We will never return to Cuba again.
We had to change room three times, first time was on our first full day as the Aircon had stopped working in a few blocks. We were moved to an old dirty room, its walls covered in black mould and badly repaired holes. We refused to stay in it for health reasons and were moved again to a slightly better room with 3 single beds in, not the king size we originally had. The patio door had a gap around the frame and had been forced open at some point as the lock was bent.
The buffet restaurant is lacking in any food hygiene, there are cockroaches running around the floor and between plates of food. Food is kept luke warm and served continuously for dinner, breakfast the next day , then lunch, then dinner again. We don't know if it was ever refrigerated or just left in the same place. The food was bland, beige and only just warm but the fries were cold. The pool snack bar was even worse with rock hard pastry pizza with just a bare scraping of topping and stale bread, obviously left over from yesterdays buffet. The burgers were served rare and again luke warm.
Please don't be fooled by the tour guide on the way to the hotel from the airport, he will convince you that no one accepts anything other than Cuban currency and will talk you into changing currency with him at a great rate of 60 CUPs per English £. No where and I mean NO WHERE will accept CUPs, they will take £s $s & €s and will tell you that their own currency is toilet paper. They are all after your money, even the maid managed to scam us by asking for us to change English £10 notes into smaller notes and left us with an old paper tenner.
The beach is supposedly the second best in the world, well that must have been decided by a blind man, it's dirty and the sun beds are old and sagging. The sea at least is crystal clear.
We feel that what we paid for this holiday was a con, it's not worth even a tenth of the price.

I have only stayed at one other resort in Cuba, Memories Jibacoa, so I don't have much to compare Tainos to. You go to Cuba for the beach, people, and culture, not for brand new, modern accommodations. Tainos could certainly use a facelift, but it was clean, the beach and pool were perfect, and the entertainment staff went above and beyond to make people enjoy their vacation.
The rooms are rough around the edges, but all have a nice terrace or balcony. I think some rooms have been recently renovated, while others have not. We were first put into a bungalow that was very rough, was on the outskirts of the resort and reeked of mold. The next day they thankfully moved us to a second floor room with a nice view of the pool and garden. The air conditioning didn't really work however.
The grounds were beautiful. There are tennis courts and a gym, but both are in rough shape and could use new equipment. Evening entertainment was fantastic. There was a wide variety of food options and I always found many things I enjoyed.
The coffee here is HORRIBLE! I also think they water down the milk which made my coffee grey. I was so disappointed, knowing that Cuba has good coffee but couldn't get any at the resort. They also don't provide coffee makers in the rooms. The bars serve cappuccinos, espressos, etc, that are okay, but the earliest you can get one is at 9 am and can't order one while at breakfast. Even after a few cappuccinos or espressos, I did not feel any effects from caffeine. This was very surprising since I am very sensitive to caffeine. So I am not sure what the deal is there.
The minor issues at the resort didn't effect our vacation too much as the beach, food, and entertainment were fantastic.

Dear Robyn, First and foremost we want to take this opportunity to express our appreciation for your friendly review of our hotel. Also, we are grateful for your constructive comments, we are always happy to receive suggestions on how we can improve our hotel to enhance our guest satisfaction wherever possible now and in the future. Furthermore, we would like to clarify that as part of our international initiative Wave Of Change we are removing all single use plastic items from our rooms. This has been a great success in our hotels in Europe and we are working towards accomplishing the same objective across Cuba. We are in the process of sourcing environmentally-friendly coffee capsules and for the time being we have chosen to remove the coffee machines until we have found a suitable alternative. However, our guests can order coffee from room service free of charge. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope you appreciate this initiative is close to our hearts. It is nice to know that you had such a good time with us because of our efforts and we hope to have the honour to repeat this experience for you soon. Best Regards, Quality Manager Iberostar Tainos

This was our second visit to the Tainos, the first February 2015, my husband was abit weary, he said, going all that way and nobody will remember us, how wrong was he, the first evening we went into the main bar in the hotel before dinner and Sandy was there, he looked at us and said, oh wow you've come back to see us, next day, George at the pool bar remembered us, and many other staff, what a lovely family welcome.
Both times we had a bungalow, lovely and comfortable, clean, any problem sorted straight away, it was the patio door didn't lock so a maintenance man was sent straight away, and a chain was put on there.
The food is amazing, the tables always laid out perfectly, plenty to eat and drink, special requirements are done too, a lovely Cuban restaurant and Japanese restaurant to try.
The grounds are always kept beautiful, so is the pool and surrounding areas, toilets, sunbeds. You collect a beach towel and can change it when needed.
There is entertainment during the day, games, fashion show, shooting, beach games, etc, etc.
Evening entertainment is brilliant, before you go in for dinner you can gather outside on the pergola area to a little band playing and singing you can dance Salsa, they even teach you this during the entertainment during the day, then you can go for dinner, after back to the pergola area if you want then every evening there is a different amazing show, then disco, then finish the night off in the main hotel.
This is a wonderful place to spend a wonderful holiday, we had both of our 60th birthdays here, February 2021 we are returning to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, amongst wonderful friends we have made.

This is a wonderful place to spend a wonderful holiday, we had both of our 60th birthdays here, February 2021 we are returning to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, amongst wonderful friends we have made.

We had a nice stay at Iberostar Tainos, a nice and safe resort for families. We stayed at a bungallow facing vegetation area, not pool, and it was nice, safe, and quiet. As suggestion -rooms would need some renovation, for toilet and shower area a thorough cleaning( would suggest using bleach and stronger cleaning products before each guest). Another suggestion would be to install muschito nets to all units. Food was good, fresh, and tasty, no complaints here, we always found something to eat. entertainment was very good, each night we had live music, performed by very talented singers, and after that, at the theatre, an excellent show offered by other tallented dancers and singers. They have entertainment for kids as well, not that much, but still we had few activities. The personnel in the whole resort was very polite, nice, and willing to help, they made us feel welcome. Regarding the service at the main buffet staff was always polite and attentive. I cannot say the same thing about the people serving at the bar, especially the beach bar, the bartender was nice with us only if we tip him, if not he would be grumpy and enoyed like we bothered him. Overall we had a nice stay, we would recommend the resorts to others, and we consider returning.

On February 27th I just returned from a family vacation at Iberostar tainos on the Varadero peninsula in Cuba
This facility is smaller Resort compared to others on the Varadero peninsula but being smaller has a number of advantages compared do the mega resorts you see currently being built in Varadero. I found no issue securing a family corner on the beach or a quiet position near the pool. Lounges where plentiful at every station
Taino's is relatively a quiet facility. After 10 p.m. there is very little activity. As such, this facility is focussed towards a family environment. I would think individuals considered to be DINKS (double income no kids) or older teenagers may find Taino's to be relatively boring.
I found the food to be quite good and the overall service support at the resort to be excellent. The staff was prepared to help you at every corner of the facility
After all the main reason one visits Varadero is for the beach, the ocean, and the Sun..... Taino's has plenty of this.
The Thursday afternoon pig roast what's phenomenal make sure you don't miss this. See photo

Need translation
It is a 2 hour journey to La Habana airport. I recall it was about 110€when we asked at xmas.
My safe was $15 USD. I hope this helps!
Hi, the buffet area is very dirty , the hinges on the ice cream compartment is rusty and dirty. The chicken wasn’t cooked properly and the beef was old meat , too tough to eat. They used the same fork for raw meat and cooked meat. Same food everyday.
Honestly go to another hotel. The alcohol is cheap and very little choice, no wine or cocktails.
The management do not give a dam.
The staff do their best and are really pleasant.
They had paid actors in for 2 days pretending to enjoy the place, UTTERLY DISGRACEFUL. We had to move from the pool and beach so this farse could take place. I videotaped it and will send to TUI.
I’ve emailed TUI to complain officially. Why they are sending people to this hotel I really don’t understand. My room was never cleaned in the 2 weeks I was there, I had to do it myself.
BEEN BACK 3 WEEKS AND ALL 4 OF US ARE STILL ILL.
And by the way they let locals in at the weekend so keep a close eye on your bag etc because lots of items were being stolen.
Wine .. red white only in the restaurant on the evening.. and its waiter served.. so small glasses ( i had to get my partner to order wine so i could get a larger glass.. as he doesnt drink :-) the main reception bar does cava all day but not red or white wine. 🤔 you will still love the place.. staff are the best
