2021 January Pandemic on its top. Not much people in the hotel. The weather is pretty cool. Mostly sunny. Windy. Water is 24C. It means you have to do your business in the water faster and get out. Sandy beaches of Varadero are very good. Food is very good for 3 stars. Not much those mixes from yesterday meals. The room is fine. Hot water runs all day long. Unusual thing. Some money reform was performed by the government. So you can buy alcohol and local crafts anywhere. But that is it. You have to bring anything else with you, like you do going in the wilderness. My problem was noise. Usually Cuba is very noisy. Somehow they try to gift you with their music all the time. Idea to have a choice is unacceptable. That is always difficult to hide yourself from their noise, I mean music. But this hotel is compact. All the windows look at the pool, which is framed from all four sides. So there are ideal conditions to joy you with music in every corner of hotel. It is a problem to hear what CNN is blathering about. Washroom doesn’t give you relief either. And you cannot get a quiet room, because there is not any. Bull’s eye! If you like this, go ahead (after covid, if still alive). Do not look any farther.

Very nice hotel right on a beautiful beach. The location is perfect for walking to several markets, bars & restaurants. It has good food but breakfast is mostly the same but you can get an omelette which is very good. The staff is wonderful. Yoandy is the entertainment guy. He is very friendly & always has a great attitude. He is lots of fun. The maids are very nice & grateful for your tips. Always smiling & a big hello when they see you. The staff at the bar are friendly & the front desk staff are great. All in all it is a great place. This is my 2nd visit to this hotel & my favorite pick to stay. Will definitley be back!

When we arrived late at night the wonderful woman at the front desk said "we only have this one room left for tonight but if you don't like it we will give you a new room in the morning". We were put in the old apartment that is split into 3 rooms. The ocean view was spectacular but even for cuban standards the room was awful. You needed a key to get out of the room and the window didn't open. Unfortunately we weren't able to switch rooms until another night. The staff really was great about the whole thing and once we got to room 1224 (I requested street side) we were very pleased. All the staff on the resort was wonderful. We didn't always eat there but the food was typical and very good. We happen to enjoy Cuban food. The clientele was an older crowd and this suited us just fine. There were so many long term and repeat visitors there. I can see why. We will definitely return.

Flew Sun wing on Feb 22/20, Had a great flight, Got to hotel a little late because they forgot some of the suit cases in Halifax, well off to hotel, checked in and waited for our room, went to see all the regulars there for a hug and some drinks, Got to our apartment and unpacked,, This hotel is very small and don't have all the bells and whistles but they have the most amazing staff, When we got there , there was 7 people from Ontario we met last year and then within a few days we had 15 or so more join us and then it was like old home week, Best vacation in a long time except for one snag, Our apartment flooded but was soon taken care of, we moved to the corner one and all was good, Food was a little better this year but we still went out to eat,Found a great place on corner of 36 st

The main issue with this hotel is that the oldest of the 3 buildings (farthest east of the 3) is not fit for habitation. Lack of working safes, doors that don't lock properly, small, cramped AND scheduled for a complete renovation in 2022. Until then, it really should not be available for tourists to book. Transat and other travel companies really need to insist that it be removed from the booking system. If you want a good idea of how bad it is, the hotel guests refer to it as "guantanamo" and any reasonable person is on a waiting list to transfer out of it. The only people that seem to accept it are noisy drunkards who don't care about much at all besides partying, so that is the kind of company you will be surrounded with in this building. You will be woken at all hours by loud talking that comes in from the hallway, via big gaps around room doors that don't seal shut properly, guaranteed. Insist on a room in the main building (the one with the reception desk on the ground floor). When you are booking, they are referred to as "superior rooms" and you can pay a supplement to get one, or take a chance by booking the regular room (which always turns out to be in 'guantanamo' and then making enough of a fuss to be transferred to the better building, usually for free. The staff and food is the usual cuba hit-and-miss, however there is one fellow named Ernesto who is a top-notch: unfailingly patient, helpful, outgoing and a total credit to the cuban tourism industry.
