I was on the site from Aug 1 to Aug 8 with my family. Very nice site, beautiful vegetation, well maintained overall, our room was one of the renovated one ( not all of them are), very clean. Beach was amazing, food was so, so - the same all week, but we knew it so wasn't a surprise and it was ok. For the picky or gourmet persons is not the right place to go. However the fruits and icecream was delicious. The main problem was the dirty on the plates and on the cutlery and coffee mugs. That was a problem on a daily basis.Beer was great, drinks amazing, in general stuff was nice. We went to Varadero city and the bus from and to comback at the hotel was free. Overall was a pleasant stay.
Well .. I stayed with my daughter at the hotel from August 6 to August 13 …it was beautiful ,,,I was in one of the renovated rooms ,a beautiful room ..417 …stuff were friendly ..I would say most of them specially my buddy (Omar )…the sweet .( yamilet )…and also the ladies at the reception ……the food was very good …..and to answer the comment about (the Wi-Fi at the lobby only )it’s not true , the Wi-Fi was everywhere …… the beach was awesome ….i highly recommend this resort….
The hotel had a very nice beach with a nice pool. Most of the staff was friendly (especially Carolina, our cleaning lady, Madelaine and Osvaldo) and helpfull. The hotel food was fine and I'd recommend not going to the special restaurant called "Natura" because it only had 2 main dishes and small portions. Overall, good experience but it would be better if they renovated the rooms and had better food.
We travelled there in July 2022. The first thing I noticed was that the Canadian flag was in the center of the group of flags outside. That meant something to me and it wasent just pandering, the hotel followed through with that level of respect for Canadians. We were treated like royalty there. All the things that get other hotels bad reviews these guys were able to avoid. The food was great, the visiting Cuban tourists were respectable, the entertainment was wonderful, finally there was no language barrier. Thank you for a great stay. I am also saddened to hear about the lighting strike at Matanzas. The resort though is well protected by multiple lighting arrestors. We had a great time and I recomend this hotel to my fellow Canadians
This is our second visit to Cuba. First was pre covid and second after/during covid. Both times we've stayed at Roc Arenas Doradas. We stayed there the first week of August. We went to Cuba to celebrate our 15 year wedding anniversary. We celebrated our 10 year anniversary there and decided to go back. After reading the review I was a little hesitant but decided to go on faith and return to Roc Arenas Doradas. We're happy we did. First of Cuba isn't for everybody depending on what you're looking for in a vacation. If you want great food I suggest you go elsewhere. If you want an amazing beach, quiet and relaxing time, kind and friendly people then book your next visit. We stayed in room 1107 for reference. Garden: The grounds are beautiful. Lots of coconut and palms trees, flowers. The grass is trimmed and well maintained. There are lots of small bins throughout the property. It was unfortunate to see cigarette butts on the ground in the morning when, with one more step there was a bin. This was the some of the visitors fault but by breakfast it was all cleaned up. We are early risers. The gardeners on this property does an excellent job. Beach: OMG STUNNING!!! Clear blue water, not to deep. Lots of beach chairs on the the regular Roc side and the Roc plus side. We walked up and down both side of the beach and Roc Arenas by far has the best beach front. There was a few locals selling but it didn't bother us. We brought a hat and some cups. If you told them you're weren't interested they left, no problem. There is a secure guard and life guard there most of the time. Locals: People talked about the locals but we did not have any issues. Then again we are English speaker and wasn't able to differentiate the difference between the Cuban Spanish speakers and other spanish speakers. In all fairness its their country and they're paying to use the facilities. Once they are respectfuland mindful of other guest I don't see the issue. Again this was my observation someone's else could be different. Pool: My kids loved the pool. It's beautiful with a swim up bar. Again, there was lots of chairs and umbrellas. We always found a seat. The restaurant/snack bar by the pool was delicious and service was quick. In previous years they were very slow there. There was a few of the tiles in the pool was coming off but it did not bother us. Eventually it will have to be fix though. Housekeeping: Our maid 'Anismary' was truly AMAZING. Everyday she would make different characters from the sheets and towels. After the beach my kids was always excited to go back to the room to see how it was decorated it was always beautiful and the kids looked forward to it. We did as well. We are English speakers so sometimes it was difficult to communicate with her but she did try. A for effort. She would even get someone who spoke better English to translate. On our anniversary my husband had his dad who is fluent in Spanish speak to her about it being our anniversary. When we got back the room was decorated beautifully, with a bottle of champagne, flowers and rose petals. She did a wonderful job. Thank you Anismary you made our stayed even better with your pleasant smile and taking care of our room. Angela is dancer and Mariela you all are amazing. Not to mention the gentleman the worked with you guys. Entertainment: Honestly, I only went twice because I was just tired from the beach. I spent most of the day there and in the water. My husband and daughter went a few times and loved it. Food: Typical Cuban food. Its ok, you'll always find something to eat. It was mostly the same thing every day. I think once I saw bacon and something else but that was it. I enjoyed breakfast in the buffet. There was a black older gentleman that made the omelets I did not catch his name. I only saw him in the mornings, he was was kind. My family and I was one of the few people who took scrambled eggs and once he saw us he remembered. I found the lunch at the buffet better than the restaurant by the beach which was unfortunate because we spent most of the day at the beach and had to walk back to the buffer for lunch but it was ok. At least we had the buffet option. Dinner was similar to lunch with some added meat or food options. There was always lots of fresh fruits. The staff was very nice especially Yamil and some of the other ladies. Yamil always offering my kids a spoon because he knows once they finished eating they must have icecream. The strawberry icecream was a big hit with my kids. The cleaners inside the buffet restaurant needs a big congrats to they was constantly cleaning. The grill meat chicken, burger, beef was delicious but it took forever. There was always a line up. I know the meat have to cook properly but the wait was way too long. Maybe a faster grill or parboil some of the meat in advance. I had a bit of an issue... On the 5 day I had diarrhea. I'm lactose intolerance (I might have eaten something and not realized it) plus I consumed lots of fruits. As a result I was unable to out for dinner. My husband asked if he could take a plate with some food for me and they didn't want him to take the plate. Taking the food didnt seem like the issue it was taking the plate that was the problem. He was trying to explain and the workers didn't really understand. It was language barrier issue and being able to explain properly on both side. I think the buffet should have containers for such issue. Unfortunately people do get sick but still needs to eat. I suggest if you can walk with a reusable bowl in case you do become sick. There are restaurants and snack bar throughout the resort so unless you're not sick you won't need to take food to go. Reminder: Please do not give the workers Canadian coin or damaged bills as tip. It's unless to them because they can't use/spend it. Keep in mind nowadays mostly everything is in US currency. We went with $5 and $10 for tipping. I suggest you get new bills from the bank. Also if you have any gentle used clothing, medications, toiletries give it them. They'll be very appreciative. What we take for granted the people would love to have because they have limited access to it. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR TRASH THOUGH. They're human afterall. Be thoughtful, and ask yourself is that something you would want someone to give to you? Internet: In the past, I had to buy a $1 card to get internet and it was only in the lobby area. Now there's internet throughout the resort even on the beach which was great. However, once you come out from the internet you had to sign back in because it kicks you out. You only get a certain amount of hours for the internet but once it's done and you go back to the front desk they'll reload it. The ladies are the front desk was lovely. Miscellaneous: Wednesday was Cuban day and it was interesting. Lots of grill meat and coconut, dancing. It was nice seeing the resort celebrate the Cuban culture. We loved it. Friday the restaurant did a dinner for the Canadian guest which was lovely. (It was also my anniversary day as well.) The dinner was located at the beach restaurant. The place was decorated in red and white. There was champagne and juice as you entered. Live band and dancing during the meal. The meal consisted of bread and butter, followed by a delicious pumpkin soup, then rice with chicken breast and shrimp dinner. Dessert was a huge cake with the Canadian flag and Cuban flag. Then we catch the sunset on the beach. It was breathtaking. My kids was kind of expecting fries or poutine seeing that it was celebrating Canadian. Nevertheless, it was the thought was counts. My kids went to buffet to eat dinner because there's pizza and more kids friendly options there plus icecream. Overall we had an amazing trip at Roc Arenas Doradas. There was a few hiccup which I mentioned but nothing that would deter me from going back to this resort. I'm writing the review while it's still fresh in my mind as to not forget anything. I will try and add some photos later and other information if I remember. Thank you Roc until next time. We will be back!!!…
We had a wonderful stay at this resort with a large group of our family. It is a family oriented, and tranquil place. Madelayne, who cleaned our room, put a lot of love and detail into her work, and always added a special touch when she made our beds. We truly enjoyed our stay there.
The food is horrible, the service is even worst. I recommend not to visit this place. the lobby toilets did not flush, they were very dirty all the time and the air conditioning in the room did not cool the room at all.
The service was awesome as always! Yes, there is more locals than prior, however you need to understand that Cuba is also trying to recover from the pandemic like the rest of the world. The staff is always smiling and asking if everything is good. The rooms are clean, some are dated, some are updated. Block 3 & 4 are renovated rooms and they are continuing to work on blocks to renovate. Was hoping that they would update the suites (block 11) that has not happened yet. The renovated rooms only have showers no bath tub (for someone looking for a tub). The location is perfect halfway down the peninsula, beach is stunning white sand and turquoise water. Be aware that sand fleas are active at dawn and dusk. We never had an issue, however people have had an issue. Best solution is do not go at dawn or dusk or use Vick's vapor rub around ankles. Cuba is known for friendly citizens and beaches, if you have high expectations for food you will sadly be disappointed. We never have an issue with food, take a little of each to try. The Al La Carte's were fantastic, with a lot of choices for main course. From the front reception, coffee bar, lobby bar, pool bar, entertainment, kids club, towel exchange, beach bar, a la carte restaurants, beach restaurant, maids, gardeners, security and maintenance all amazing staff.…
This is our 3rd time in this hotel and we come again because the great staff they have. Always very kind and helpfull. Rooms are always clean and well keeped. I will come back on july with new friends. See you
We spent a lovely two weeks vacation in Arenas Doradas resort. People are amazing, very friendly and helpful. We were impressed by the abundant well maintained vegetation. It would be unfair to mention only a few names because the entire team in the resort is excelent. This is a place that we would gladly revisit. Carmen, Carlos and Calin.
