Another AMAZING vacation with Grand Memories Varadero, Cuba!!!
This was my fourth vacation with my husband to Grand Memories and yet again it was absolutely fantastic! Immediately we felt like we were returning home, so many happy faces from the staff and management. The food was beyond what I had expected, with special attention to detail and presentation, never was I disappointed. The buffet(s) were always full with more than enough selection to accommodate all and every appetite. The A’lacart dinners were so good, may I add The Gourmet and the Asian restaurant were my favourite! The chambermaids were always so willing to accommodate anything that we needed and always left a little special towel arrangement on our bed. Of course we have our favourites when it comes to bartenders from the coffee bar ( Darlay, Bryan, Amy), all the great staff at the Aqua Bar, although everyone is so fantastic and doing their best to serve you... The staff and management are quick to respond to any issue (should there be one), effectively and efficiently. They will do whatever needs to be done to ensure your time at Grand Memories is wonderful! I realize nothing is perfect, but I am very thankful for Grand Memories Staff, Management, and now friends for assisting me with making many many memories and allowing me to have my perfect time and vacation place! I hope to see you all soon as their is no other resort for me, xo 😘

First of all we were the unlucky travellers to be here during a cold front Feb 21-28. Not the hotels fault but only had two days of beach weather and couldn't go near the pool at all. 6 family members, three rooms 2nd floor pool view upgraded to Diamond Club. Building 21 -24 are designated Diamond club and most centrally located to all amenities. Diamond club does not give you a better room but gives you a designated section on the beach and premium amenities such as top shelf liquor if that's important to you. This year I noticed that our designated place on the beach was not as large as I remembered due to the influx of Sanctuary (another upgrade) visitors taking over the same space. Sucks for me as I don't get up early enough to mark chairs by 6:00 Am, therefore, relied on other members of our group to stake out the spots for us all. Forget getting pool loungers, assuming because the weather was unfavorable for the beach everyone was at the very cold pool. The week we were there the lobbey was a very busy place with long lineups for coffee and bar. Struggled all week because staff couldn't keep up with demand. They would have expected most people to be at the beach. The buffet is always the same blah, blah, blah but you won't starve. The 24 hour snack bar also a very busy spot this year and they kept running out of food and beer especially french fries. No vodka any where on this resort or if there was any in very short supply. I asked every day and couldn't get any. Lots of rum and very good blended pina coladas however. Staff not as friendly as I remembered but they were all overworked and overwhelmed. The cappicinos and Spanish coffees at the coffee bar worth the wait but half your day would be over by the time you got through the lineup. As for the rooms, very dated and a tall wall built around the tub so very hard to access and there wasn't even a grab bar in our tub/shower. Also because sun was limited that week water was very often cold and only had luke warm water about two days of our stay. Water heated by solar panels I guess. Make sure to have slippers or socks to walk around your room as floors were suspiciously not cleaned. As I have been to Grand Memories in other years and have found it to be a bit superior to other resorts of the same rating I am feeling like maybe the weather was responsible for my negative findings this year. Am willing to check this place out again and hopefully will have a better weather week ,therefore, more time on the beautiful beach and not so much time struggling in the lobbey, also water for our rooms were not in great abundance. Even when we asked at the bar for water for our rooms eyes rolled at us making us feel guilty for even asking.
Dear Guest, On behalf of all Grand Memories Varadero staff, we would like to give you a thank you for providing part of your time to share a review about your stay with us. However, we regret to know we could not reach your expectations because of food inconveniences. As we are continually improving, we will take all your insights with a profound sense of responsibility to improve all issues and address them properly. Grand Memories..Everything we could've asked for and more 5/5
From the beginning until the end, GM provided us with the trip of a lifetime. Starting with vivianna in customer service, lassandra, the best bartender on the resort, Ali who makes the best beef i've had in cuba and Ida who enured our room was spotless, the staff were amazing. Our room #24(224) was spotless and it was only a 1-2 minute walk to either the beach or the pool. As always with varadero, the beach was amazing and while this is a huge resort, we never had trouble finding a chair. The food surprised us, usually im not a fan but this time it was great and the staff at Alis buffet was amazing. Again, i cant overstate how great the service was even though the resort is huge. I can only imagine what a logistical nightmare it must be to accomodate thousands of people with food, drink and accomodations but they did it. Nightlife was great, especially the queen and MJ tributes and the little impromptu acts in front of the cascada bar were fun to watch. A few tips, have a lttle patience, vary your eating times until you find one that suits you and be polite, it always pays off. We will be back, hopefully with the three kids if we can afford it :) Thanks to @sunwing @grandmemoriesvaradero #sunwing #grandmemoriesvaradero #cuba #sunwingvacation

The resort is very nice and spread-out. The beach exceeded my expectations and was crystal-clear. I had the Diamond club upgrade and would recommend it, if anything, for the better beach chairs. The hidden gem, while at this resort is the pool with the 'rock' at the center. It was spectacular and quiet. Another gem was they had nightly, live, music in the Mariposa Lobby. One night acoustic guitar, another night piano, and another night violin. This made the evenings very enjoyable and relaxing. This resort is at the far end of the pennisula, so if you take the on/off bus, you'll be treated to a beautiful, scenic, view of Varadero.

I went with my best friend this September 2023 and we had such an amazing time! The animators Ricardo & Erick especially made our stay a fun stay. The whole animation team are a beautiful team and the staff too. It wouldn’t be the same without them. We will definitely come back, we feel as if it will become another home. Would definitely suggest, if you want to have a great time!

While I stayed at the Sanctuary this trip, I used a lot of the Grand Memories services, including the spa. Maynelis is by far the best massage therapist there is. She is a gifted therapist that always knows how to exactly make me feel better. I would also like to recognize Yovani and Yamaysis for helping me with a special guest, thank you so much, it meant the world to all of us. I also went to the buffet numerous times, and found their selection refreshing (especially their dessert menu!!) The coffee bar is alway my favourite place to spend a lazy afternoon people watching. Leidiana always wows with her special coffee creations. I also spent a few evenings listening to Casuso in the main lobby, while the bartenders made me special drinks. In short, thank you to the whole resort for making my stay so pleasant and fun. I'll be back, I always do.

I would like to share my honest and long review after this week. I have been many times to Cuba and was married in Holguin. I've stayed on the resorts and also stayed in Casa particulares. So I am aware what Cuba is like. And I loved it! I have been to this resort before when it was a Riu. 10 years ago. It has changed a lot! Rooms: The rooms are quite run down and that would be not that bad if they were clean. I have stayed in 3 stars and they had very dated rooms but when they are clean I don't mind. We at first were in building 23 and changed to 10. 10 was nicer it's remodeled. We got 1 towel for 4 people until I asked for more the 2nd last day. We had 2 rolls of toilet paper the whole time. They didn't clean the room most days and when they did it was just to make the bed. No mopping, no wiping surfaces, no tidying. I left a very good tip and some nice gifts the first few days and they took them but didn't really do any cleaning. I was very disappointed. I have never come across anything like this in Cuba. They are normally very very good at keeping things nice and clean. Building 10 is the only renovated building. I think building 20 has some renovated rooms as well. If you have kids I wouldn't recommend block 10. They had a disco right across from it that blasted very loud music till 2am every night except for Saturday. And it's very far from the beach. But close to the lobby and quiet pool so that was nice. We were not diamond club and did not get refilled drinks in the fridge. And water only maybe half the days. Our fridge broke one day and took them 3 days to fix it. This wouldn't have been a big deal but we can't go out at night with the kids so it was nice to have cold beers we purchesed in town for the evenings. Beach: amazing but could use a beach bar. Pools: great Staff: most staff we met were amazing and friendly and worked very hard with what they had. Internet: didn't work in our room but lobby worked well. Food: .....well Cuba has never been known for its food. I am a not a picky eater and usually find something to eat in Cuba. I dont eat meat. Usually I make a salad with cabbage and beans etc and spaghetti with tomato sauce or pizza for dinner. But they didn't have any of that. They where out of tomato sauce the entire week. They didn't have anything for salad other then cucumbers, or shredded carrots. They had pizza one day at the snack bar only. They got French fries a few of the days at the snack bar only. They didn't have fried eggs only omelets. I'm pretty sure they made them out of mixing egg and something else. Maybe flour. Because it didn't taste like egg. To mix in they didn't have things like tomatoes and green peppers and onion. They had only meats and cheese. Even off the resort we noticed the food shortages, we went to our favorite spot Kikis for pizza and they were out of food. Only beer. They where a few ice cream spots off resort and they were all out of ice cream. The resort did have some in the dinner buffet the last 2 nights. So if you really enjoy food on your vacation or you have children I would take this into consideration. If you have dietary restrictions like myself I would go here. Drinks: So the resort had lots of Orange Fanta, beer, rum, they seemed to have vodka as well. That was about the extent of the drinks. They didn't have mix for drinks. No cola, no ginger ale, no juice. Well they had a very watered down pineapple juice or guava juice that just tasted like water. So this was very disappointing for the kids. I used to take my older son to the resorts and they used to make him fun tricolor drinks with juice and virgin strawberry daiquiri etc. They didn't have anything like that. You could buy juice at the store on the resort but be aware the juice boxes have aspartame. There was coffee in the lobby bar it was usually great some times was watered down but not often. The little blue packs of sugar they give you is their version of Splenda. So if you want regular sugar you have to ask. They seem to have a shortage of sugar and keep it behind the bar. When we went off the resort it was hard to find these things as well but the odd place sold Pepsi. And the Ibirostar next door sold cans of Stella if your wanting a change for beer. Excursions: we didn't really do any this trip just the catamaran at the beach. This was amazing and they had a photographer who took amazing photos and videos of us for a great price. Also I have only ever paid $20 for the entire boat for this and this time they charged $20 per person even for the kids so it was $80 for all 4 of us. This was unexpected. But worth it for us. It was really fun. I've done this tons and it's always $20 for 3 or 4 people. I will personally not be returning here and probably not be returning to Cuba after this which I thought I would never say!

I just got back from Varadero, and I wanted to write a review of this hotel. This is my second stay at the Grand Memories Varadero, and I can confidently say that it will be my final, as we had a traumatic experience. I made a mistake to book with them again, after a good experience that I had last year (February 2022). The most awful aspect was the food, which I can confidently say it's the worst, It's pretty much a food for prisoners not tourists. The list of missing food is a follow: -Salads -Vegetables (there’s only cucumber) -Fruit (no fruit only tasteless water melon) -Chicken -Fish and seafood -Drinks (only Fanta and Beer are available) Even the available food, is non edible I’m not a picky person, but I didn't find anything to eat nor to drink. On top of that, all the stuff were bored and rude. Also, the sanitary aspect is also very bad and would take me hours to describe how bad they are. I booked this hotel through Suning and it came up on the top of the search, because they are affiliated with them, so beware of this strategy, don't book with them, because you'll have a nightmare. The Hotel is ranked 4.5 stars, but in reality, it doesn't qualify for 2 stars hotel. The only thing we enjoyed, was the beach that's it. Please don't book with them, it's a waste of money!

Here we go.... I arrived on september 5th and am so happy to be leaving today (September 12th). Although, I've been asking to leave for days. I received room 33201 on the first night and the problems started immediately. As I arrived after 9pm, i quickly placed my items in my room and went to do my rounds of the resort and to have a quick swim with another guest. Upon returning to my room and every time i tried to enter my room it was nearly impossible. The lock would take about 5-10minutes of attempts of inserting and re-inserting the key card before the door would unlock. That night I came back to my room exhausted after a long day of traveling and went straight to bed. The next day I woke up and felt "off". I proceeded to feel worse and worse as the days went on (trouble breathing, excessive coughing and vomiting). I could not stomach food at all between wednesday and sunday and was living off water. On thursday morning I did a thorough investigation of my room and found black mold in multiple spots. Mystery solved as to why I was having such trouble with my health. I attempted to have my room changed but was told the resort was overbooked and no rooms were available and that I would have to stay in the one that was assigned to me. I have copd and am a recent heart attack survivor so mold really isnt good for me (then again it's not good for anybody). I tried explaining this to them but they either didnt care or didnt understand me, even tho I was showing them photos at the office. I attempted again on friday to have a room change and was declined again. Friday night my health got even worse and I was up all night unable to breathe. Saturday morning I went back down to the office and told them I could not go back in the room unless it was to remove my belongings. Again I was told no rooms were available. I removed my belongings, brought them to the lobby and insisted that they either change my room or send me home as my health was being severely impacted. Once they saw my luggage sitting there (I have huge bruises from hauling the stuff down the stairs myself) they told me maybe after 4pm they could maybe get me a room. I explained that it was just after 8am and I haven't slept and that I needed somewhere cool to lay down. They told me "cant help you. Go lay on the beach for the day". At noon a guest who has been here many many times contacted the office about my needs and suddenly there was a room within 10 minutes. The room they put me on was on the very top floor and the amount of stairs to get to my room was not possible as my breathing issues were already exasperated. Saturday evening after attempting to eat (unsuccessfully due to being so sick) I went to my room to change before the evening entertainment. I wanted to try enjoying at least parts of the trip even tho I was sick (I paid good money to be here). I got up to my room at 7pm and after climbing all those stairs I was winded and had to stay in my room the rest of the night. On sunday i went back down to the lobby and explained this wasnt working for me as I felt trapped in my room or out in the heat. I explained that the lack of concern was disheartening and that my intent was to file a complaint upon my return to Canada. In an attempt for the resort to discredit me and take the attention off themselves the sunwing rep proceeded to yell at me in the lobby on front of other guests accusing me of operating an illegal private tour company in the resort (totally laughable). She then demanded that I not interact with any guests even with a hello or friendly wave or I would be kicked out of the resort. For the rest of the vacation I was walking on eggshells and kept myself in my room or far away from everybody and all the activities. I would go to my room immediately after dinner and stay there until the next day. On sunday after being threatened by sunwing I was finally moved again. This time they put me on the main floor which also had mold. I was told this is the only room available so I had to take it or sleep outside. Monday I went to dinner and got extremely sick at the table. I was having extreme difficulty breathing and was dizzy and essentially passing out at the table. At that time I heard guests concerned but the staff decided to lie and tell everybody I wasnt sick but that I had mental health issues. Seriously!?! Making those false assessments and spreading that narrative to other staff and guests is slanderous. Even if I did live with mental health issues (which I dont) that would be a major breach of privacy to be broadcasting to everyone around. I was also advised Monday evening that I was being requested to meet with the manager Hilda and the sunwing rep at 10am on tuesday )my last day. I had to drag myself out of bed feeling like death and head to a meeting where they informed me that I am not welcome back as I complain too much. They even wanted me to sign a form saying I was the problem and that I was banned. Obviously i refused to sign as I have full intent of seeking legal advise in Canada. They the told me that in regards to my complaints i am to "act like a queen. Look with your eyes. Hear with your ears and keep your mouth shut". I highly encourage people to seek a different resort.

Cleanliness is a zero! Covered in flea bites or bed bugs or diphtheria I don’t know. Filthy place. Sheets were never changed. Maid was seriously bad.! The blonde one. Garbage. Go do something else if you don’t wanna clean. Sell jewellery, domino sets or wooden crafts or something.

Most amazing experience my family and I had. The staff greeted us with open arms as if we were part of their family. YAMAISI, what may I say of this woman, true professional and exceptional person. She made sure that all of our needs and wants were met. The staff, just went beyond their means to help us and make sure our stay was extraordinary. MICHAEL, thank you for the lovely drinks . The ocean was breathtaking and remained that way till the end of our seven days. Will most definitely travel there again, YAMAISI, grand memories are very lucky to have you, thank you for everything VIVA LA CUBA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
