Grand Memories Varadero elicits mixed reviews from its guests. While the vibrant atmosphere and lively entertainment are often highlighted as positive aspects, many guests have encountered unsatisfactory conditions in the rooms, including cleanliness issues and maintenance problems. The hotel's service receives diverse feedback, with some appreciating the staff's friendliness, while others encounter rudeness. The value for money has been questioned by travelers who expected more from premium options like the Diamond Club. Amenities receive both praise for staff hospitality and criticism for shortages and functionality issues.

This was my fourth vacation with my husband to Grand Memories and yet again it was absolutely fantastic!
Immediately we felt like we were returning home, so many happy faces from the staff and management.
The food was beyond what I had expected, with special attention to detail and presentation, never was I disappointed. The buffet(s) were always full with more than enough selection to accommodate all and every appetite. The A’lacart dinners were so good, may I add The Gourmet and the Asian restaurant were my favourite!
The chambermaids were always so willing to accommodate anything that we needed and always left a little special towel arrangement on our bed.
Of course we have our favourites when it comes to bartenders from the coffee bar ( Darlay, Bryan, Amy), all the great staff at the Aqua Bar, although everyone is so fantastic and doing their best to serve you...
The staff and management are quick to respond to any issue (should there be one), effectively and efficiently. They will do whatever needs to be done to ensure your time at Grand Memories is wonderful!
I realize nothing is perfect, but I am very thankful for Grand Memories Staff, Management, and now friends for assisting me with making many many memories and allowing me to have my perfect time and vacation place!
I hope to see you all soon as their is no other resort for me, xo 😘

First of all we were the unlucky travellers to be here during a cold front Feb 21-28. Not the hotels fault but only had two days of beach weather and couldn't go near the pool at all. 6 family members, three rooms 2nd floor pool view upgraded to Diamond Club. Building 21 -24 are designated Diamond club and most centrally located to all amenities. Diamond club does not give you a better room but gives you a designated section on the beach and premium amenities such as top shelf liquor if that's important to you. This year I noticed that our designated place on the beach was not as large as I remembered due to the influx of Sanctuary (another upgrade) visitors taking over the same space. Sucks for me as I don't get up early enough to mark chairs by 6:00 Am, therefore, relied on other members of our group to stake out the spots for us all. Forget getting pool loungers, assuming because the weather was unfavorable for the beach everyone was at the very cold pool. The week we were there the lobbey was a very busy place with long lineups for coffee and bar. Struggled all week because staff couldn't keep up with demand. They would have expected most people to be at the beach. The buffet is always the same blah, blah, blah but you won't starve. The 24 hour snack bar also a very busy spot this year and they kept running out of food and beer especially french fries. No vodka any where on this resort or if there was any in very short supply. I asked every day and couldn't get any. Lots of rum and very good blended pina coladas however. Staff not as friendly as I remembered but they were all overworked and overwhelmed. The cappicinos and Spanish coffees at the coffee bar worth the wait but half your day would be over by the time you got through the lineup. As for the rooms, very dated and a tall wall built around the tub so very hard to access and there wasn't even a grab bar in our tub/shower. Also because sun was limited that week water was very often cold and only had luke warm water about two days of our stay. Water heated by solar panels I guess. Make sure to have slippers or socks to walk around your room as floors were suspiciously not cleaned. As I have been to Grand Memories in other years and have found it to be a bit superior to other resorts of the same rating I am feeling like maybe the weather was responsible for my negative findings this year. Am willing to check this place out again and hopefully will have a better weather week ,therefore, more time on the beautiful beach and not so much time struggling in the lobbey, also water for our rooms were not in great abundance. Even when we asked at the bar for water for our rooms eyes rolled at us making us feel guilty for even asking.

From the beginning until the end, GM provided us with the trip of a lifetime. Starting with vivianna in customer service, lassandra, the best bartender on the resort, Ali who makes the best beef i've had in cuba and Ida who enured our room was spotless, the staff were amazing.

Our room #24(224) was spotless and it was only a 1-2 minute walk to either the beach or the pool. As always with varadero, the beach was amazing and while this is a huge resort, we never had trouble finding a chair.

The food surprised us, usually im not a fan but this time it was great and the staff at Alis buffet was amazing. Again, i cant overstate how great the service was even though the resort is huge. I can only imagine what a logistical nightmare it must be to accomodate thousands of people with food, drink and accomodations but they did it.

Nightlife was great, especially the queen and MJ tributes and the little impromptu acts in front of the cascada bar were fun to watch.

A few tips, have a lttle patience, vary your eating times until you find one that suits you and be polite, it always pays off. We will be back, hopefully with the three kids if we can afford it :)

Where to start...we arrived as a family of four in a larger group. We requested two adjoining rooms and instead were put on separate floors on opposite sides of the building. We paid for upgraded rooms closer to the ocean and the rest of the group were upgraded at no charge. We were not offered a refund. There was no hot water in the first floor room ever. We were constantly locked out of our rooms and had to go to the lobby to get the cards reprogrammed pretty much everyday. Our door stopped closing altogether one day, but we had to leave on an excursion so the room was left open with hopes they would repair it quickly. Coffee pot in room but no coffee ever. TV did not work. Half of our group got sick over the course of the seven days most likely due to poor food handling. Staff were observed looking at utensils on dirty tables and leaving them there to reuse if they thought they were clean. The glasses were filthy. My son licked his glass and then did not use it and we watched them put it back in the clean pile. We went to the Gourmet restaurant for lunch and were the first ones there and the last ones to be served over a two hour period. We finally left without getting our entire meal. They ran out of beer and vodka. Not enough staff was on duty leaving all tables dirty and people never got water half the time at the buffet. They closed the bathrooms along the main walkway by putting chairs in front and shutting off the lights. The line up at the lobby bathroom was at least fifteen people long so we moved the chairs at the other bathroom and realized they were perfectly clean and well stocked but they didn’t want us to use them. My room attendant was great, my husbands was not up to par. Used dirty towels were rehung and sink was not wiped out. The maid started harassing us about the leaving the blue towels in the room already at ten AM and our checkout was two with an extended stay until ten PM. We got lots of bug bites that seemed to happen in the night. Other than that our group was really fun and the excursions were thoroughly enjoyed.

Grand memories? Grand terrible memories! We encountered many issues at this resort. First, we requested to be "close to beach", meanwhile we were given a room in B15, which is the FURTHEST bungalow in the entire 8000-person resort. The one amenity we were close to was the kid/family pool, but that was only okay for us since we didn't have our child with us. So, after one day of having to walk way too far to get to the beach, the main pool, the lobby, and the buffet, we upgraded the room to be closer to everything. We ended up paying extra and upgraded to a pool view room. In this "upgrade", both our air conditioning and fridge were malfunctioning. The A/C made noises as if something was flapping around inside of it, while the fridge made sudden loud noises (as if it was breaking down over and over). We informed the management about these two issues right after a sleepless night. The manager wrote everything down and told me that the men would start working at 9am. Nobody fixed either issue. So, we started to unplug the fridge from the wall in order to get some sleep at night. Also, our bathroom door was hard to shut, which we informed management about, but nothing was rectified. Lastly, we had no warm water for showers. However, our initial room did have warm water. We spoke to another couple and they were having similar issues with broken appliances. On the third day, there were zero towels (not even our dirty ones) until 9pm. We contacted the lobby multiple times, but were told many rooms do not have towels because they are waiting for it to be returned to the hotel from cleaning services. On our final day, we asked that our luggage be put in the lobby luggage room. When we returned to pick up our luggage, they were soaked and had been placed under a leaking air conditioner. This included our winter wear that we places in the top parts of our suitcases, for easy access later. An employee offered us a dirty room to try to dry our clothes, but the room had a broken hairdryer. Nothing else was provided as a solution for their mistake. We made doo with using washroom dryers and air-drying our clothes until take off. Good points about this resort include having some (but not many) friendly employees, and the food wasn't terrible if you are selective about your items. But seriously, pay the extra money and go to a different resort! Don't settle for this one. You'll have a much more relaxing trip if you opt to pay a little more for a clean, organized, and functioning resort. Lastly, this resort is one of the furthest ones from Varadero airport, so keep this in mind if you plan on going into the city a few times.

Just returned from a 7 day trip to Grand Memories Varadero, I have never given a bad review in my life and have been to Cuba several times but buyer beware. Cuba is Cuba so I didn’t have high expectations going into this trip. The beach is beautiful and the Cuban people are always fantastic but the hotel itself was a huge disappointment. We paid for the Diamond club upgrade which is definitely not worth the money. We walked in to a very rundown room with black mould on the curtains and lampshades, broken furniture and a ceiling that was caving in. The bathtub is so high up from the floor that you literally had to sit on the side to get out safely and we only had warm water (never hot) for 2 of our 7 day stay. The bed covers looked like they were probably from the days when it was the Riu and the balcony was in need of repair. Our maid was amazing but the resort kept running out of towels so she could not leave fresh towels for us. On her days off the new maid changed our bed sheets and when we went to get in bed we could smell pee, we pulled back the blankets to discover that yes it was dry pee on our sheets so clearly our sheets had been replaced with soiled sheets. The same maid did not give us water, towels or toilet paper. The restaurants need some work, the food is average for Cuba but they constantly ran out of cream, cola, vodka, ice, and milk. The pool area is not cleaned very well, plastic cups and garbage everywhere but the pool itself is nice. The diamond club is supposed to give you late checkout at 2pm, went to our room at 12:30 and key card did not work, thank god our maid was back and let us in to get our luggage. Night shows were decent and kids club is great, no complaints there. If you plan on staying at this resort please bring your own sheets, toilet paper and towels. Also watch out for the golf carts driving around, they came pretty close to hitting people and use a squeaky pig to make noise when approaching people which I though was quite rude. Not a fan and will not return!

I got back last night from Grand Memories Cuba. We arrived at 9:30 Friday and did not get settled into a room till 3 am. Our first room had no power. broken sink, air conditioner, toilet , garbage can, safe. The sheets were dirty, potato chips on the floor and mould in the bath tub. Another room again broken safe and air conditioner. It was after 3 am before we got to bed. There was a snack bar. I ordered a hamburger and waited 30 minutes. No food. The food was to be expected. People pushing and butting into line at the trough . There is no one servicing the guest. Would you like a drink? No one cleaning up the property after guest. No one emptying the garbage cans. The restaurants leave their green garbage bags on the lawn in front of the restaurants till morning. By that time sitting outside the garbage smells like a dump. Entertainment is weak. New Years show the bathroom was locked. Everyday I left the lady cleaning the room packages and a tip, We asked for clean towels and water. Water was very hard to find.Once we asked at breakfast for a bottle of water and we got an already used bottle filled up. One day there was a BBQ out by the pool area and a lady grabbed a plate from the garbage to put food on. After a day or two with a broken air conditioner again we got a maintenance to fix it again. We froze for 2 days. The sheets were wet and had to sleep on our clothes. I used my t-shirt to cover my pillow. I can tell you we will not be back to Cuba

We stayed at the Grand Memories From the 9th Feb to 16 Feb 2020. On arrival morning of the 10 Feb and given our room the safe was locked, the patio door was off the track, the tv was dead and phone was dead. When tech arrived could not fix any of it. I was given a new room and second day at resort the safe did not work, took a tech all day to come to room to change batteries. We booked a special 14 Feb dinner and got uncooked srimp and cold steak and lobster. no one was happy with the meal. Also have to say the unit we were staying in was being painted the whole week we were in it. Not very nice for people staying in unit 20. Cleaners did not clean room until after 8pm on night because one of the girls called in sick.... All in all will never stay at your resort again.

I have been to Cuba before and new what to expect but I have to say I was quite disgusted at one point during our vacation. We liked to sit by the quiet pool, but one day some one decided to defecate in the pool. We told the staff about the issue and they tried to say it was bark off the tree and we insisted that it wasn't. That same employee came by again about an hour later and we said it was still in the pool and he just shrugged his shoulders. In the mean time ppl are walking and swimming through feces! That same employee later came by but was with a supervisor to check a different matter out, so we took the opportunity to let them know again. It was only at that point did they decide to clean it up. Well, he used the net that they use to clean the leaves out, he then walks all over the deck with it and dripping where ppl walk in their bare feet! Then he rinses the net off in the public shower where ppl rinse off before or after getting in the pool! We finally decided to leave as we were mortified!

The other issue was that they like to clean the pool during the day while everyone is around rather than first thing in the morning. I could get past this, except the electrical cord to power the vacuum for the pool was sitting in the pool while ppl swam around it. Maybe it was safe but I sure wasn't taking the chance!

The rooms were fine, the grounds were beautiful and the food was actually quite good.

The WORST resort i have ever been to. food was horrible and cold could i was going to town to eat. tried i would not even feed the food to the stray dogs on the resort, place was filthy dirty, you could not but your hands on the lobby bar because you would stay stuck to it. the fridges behind the bar were full of mold. the lobby bathroom urinals for men were flooded half of the week and you were walking in urine. the rest of the week they were covered with a garbage bag but still over flowing. you had to chase the cleaning lady and tip her to get towels and your fridge re stocked and they were not the cleanest towels, pool chairs were never cleaned the whole time we were there. we caught the bartenders on more than one occasion washing and re using the plastic disposable glasses. the night club had no washroom so we had seen people peeing in the corners (one was a person that starred in one of the shows " Micheal Jackson" . Three days in a row they ran out of ice, by this happening people switch to beer so then they ran out of beer. There was mold in our bathroom and also a hole in our screen door that had been patched by the last guest i assumed with a TAMPON, that right you read it right a tampon, water in shower was cold so you had to fight for hot water. it was by far the worst experience we ever had in our travels, we have been to the Dominican, Mexico and Jamaica several times but this was our first to Cuba. we will never travel to Cuba again. this resort had a 4 1/2 star rating which is incredible how they received this. we no Cuba was not the best and we expected some issues especially with the food but never expected what happened to us with the whole experience. we strongly advise people to stay away from the Grand Memories.
