Detailed Reviews
I have been to Cuba many times over the past twenty years. I go back because I love the people, and the beaches. I was not disappointed with either!
The staff were lovely. For certain they need to feel appreciated, but if they do feel respected and appreciated they will do their best for you. Our room was kept clean by our wonderful maid! Security came by to check on the lights, the waitresses at the Mexican/Cuban restaurant were lovely!
The resort was a different matter. This is a small resort which is what appealed to me.
However our room had a dirty feel, it needed a new coat of paint and some sprucing up. Actually the whole place could use some sprucing up. Had I been intending to stay at a two star this would have been fine.
The staff were lovely. Even the poor woman who was in charge of beach towels. We arrived the evening January 31st and received towels on February 5th. Every morning that poor woman would face a lineup of people asking for beach towels and she would smile and say maybe tomorrow! What a stressful job! The customer service woman was lovely and had our towels delivered directly to our room as soon as she could.
The bathroom window wouldn’t open. The air conditioner worked but needed a bang on the side several times a night to get it to stop making a loud whining noise. The fridge worked beautifully. Room 272
The food was less appealing than I have ever experienced in Cuba but on the upside I lost weight!
There was one incident that frightened me. A gentleman slipped on wet stairs in the stage area during the entertainment on the Saturday evening. I was taking pictures of the incident when a man in a black suit who was some authority in the hotel(he was telling people to mop up etc) strode directly to my table put his face three inches from my face a demanded to know if I had taken his picture. I felt threatened. That was the first time that I have ever felt threatened in Cuba. I was too frightened to bring this up with customer service. Everyone else was very nice. And the beach was perfect.

Second visit to this hotel. Didn't like my room on arrival as the smell of smoke was overwhelming. Was moved to a different room the following morning which was much better. The staff are all great and friendly. The grounds are well kept. Don't go to Cuba for the food however there was a good variety. Every day at every meal there is someone to cook up pancakes, omelettes, fried eggs for breakfast. Fish, pork, beef and assorted pastas for lunch and supper. Cheese, fruit and bread is unlimited. We were there for Valentine's day and they put on a special buffet and decorated the whole resort.
Only complaint is the lack of shade around the pool area, 3 days of no beach towels and lots of bug bites.

The best part of our vacation was the staff. Day (Di) & Jenys were fantastic, funny and very kind. Both these ladies deserve an accomodation. Then there was Izzy and Roberto at the Lobby Bar. They were always smiling, happy to see us and made some amazing drinks, especially the "Spanish Coffee", when the white wine supply ran out. Damien, another bar tender was also very pleasent and put up with a lot but kept smiling. The resort has very nice well kept grounds. The food is your average all inclusive resort food, except the Italian restaurant, it had a much nicer quality of food but limited menu. The "Noseem's" at the beach are terrible. They attack with a vengence. Take and use Deet products to protect yourself.
Again thank you Day, Jenys, Izzy, Roberto and Damiem for making our stay fun.
FYI from our experiences this is not a 3 1/2 *.

Limited food selection at a B grade quality, mainly pork menu, all cold cuts are pork, limited condiments.
The 3 a la carte restaurants are limited usually to 1 open each night with a limit of 20 people booked for the night the morning of that day at 0930hrs, line ups became aggressive, 1 booking only for your stay only.
220vac power only, in room safe lock up is 2 usd a day, internet is restricted and is 1 usd an hour.
Infrastructure is weak and tired, the truth came out the place was slated for demolition 3 years ago... Pool fountain centre piece was inoperative, water fall was inoperative, pool dock was chained off due to decay.
Hotel room security was weak, I repaired my door lock to actually lock, our friends patio door was made of corrugated plastic- flex the door and slide open for access!

Dear Nanyob, Thank you so much for your comments. Clients satisfaction and hotel reputation are very important for us. This is the reason for which we are always in touch with the sites on line to at least this way to be informed about certain clients opinion and reply. What clients think about the food respond to a prsonal taste and perception. We have a full round of menu different for 2 weeks. A la carte restaurants have limited capacity and each night there are 2 opened as advertised with 60 pax each. Room safe and internet have extra charge as advertised. Power 220V is also published. The resort is 21 years old but it was never declared for demolition, on the contrary we carry out a preventive mantainance program . The occupancy the hotel has during the whole year doesn´t correspond to a hotel that has to be demolished. It is true the pool fountain and waterfall were out of service but there was missing one thing about the pool which is the most important , the water was very clean. Cuba is one of the safest countries in the world. You can be sure nothing would be lost even if your door was not ok. Just a piece of advise, please, next time just let us know in destination any problem you have. Anyway, we thank you once more for your comments and for at least giving us the possibility to read your opinion through this page. Best regards,

I will begin by saying this is only the second time that we ever have been to a resort. I might’ve gotten lucky with where I went first (Mexico H10 ocean coral & Turquesa) but I didn’t think it could get this bad. We lasted a total of 7 hours. Be live experience Turquesa in Cuba was horrible. We got to the resort at around 1am due to a flight delay. It was super dark, and no night life whatsoever. We had to pay $25 (Cad) to use the safe in our room. We told them we didn’t want an escort and we brought our bags to the room ourselves. Getting into the room we inspected and were horrified. The ceiling was falling down and open to the wires in the top of the ceiling. It was dirty everywhere, tiny bugs were all over the counters in the bathroom and there were large black holes in the tub. (We were even on the second floor) We travelled with our parents who they put next door to us, we could hear every whisper (paper thin walls). We couldn’t properly lock our door for some reason. The lock was finicky and it was nerve racking. We heard a knock about 2 minutes after entering the room and it was the “bell boy” He barges into the room checks the refrigerator then stands there and says “everything ok?” We tell him it’s fine and wait for him to leave. He stands there rattling his pockets for (NO KIDDING) a full thirty seconds before I say “K thanks" and start shutting the door on him. Like, you want a tip for doing what? YA, NO! We read the reviews to this place and hoped people had just been picky. We were definitely disappointed to realize they were right. We went straight to the bar that was 24/7 to grab a small bite and some drinks. Although the bar could give you any drink, due to the hour, the lazy staff would only do the bare minimum (So don’t ask for mixed fancier drinks because you won’t get them late) they served hamburgers on buns with sides of cucumber, lettuce and mustard. THE RUMORS ARE TRUE!!! They seem to not have ketchup. LOL. What resort doesn’t carry ketchup? Especially when serving burgers. The bar also has NO entertainment, barely even lights, and not even a radio. This is meant for old people who don’t care about service, money and want to go to bed super early! We moved resorts at 8am the same morning to a little bit better, but still not good resort (Bella Costa). Please read my review on Bella Costa if you want an honest opinion. And even though this is a cheap resort, realize it’s due to the quality you are getting.

I have travelled to about 15 different countries, and Be Live Turquesa is by far one of my favorite paces to stay. People who are saying that the resort is run down have never stayed in a salt-water environment before. I grew up in Prince Edward Island in Canada, and that type of environment requires constant upkeep. Both times we have stayed here, the maintenance workers were CONSTANTLY working everyday, attending to the grounds, painting, sweeping, etc. They take pride in their work, are extremely friendly, and do their best to make sure that the resort is kept in great shape.
As mentioned by other people, the food in Cuba is not spicy like other places, so it might be a good idea to bring your own if you prefer that. However, my wife is a bit of a picky eater and she never had an issue finding a good variety of food for each meal. For myself, there was always a great supply of meat and seafood, and I was always satisfied with meals.
The pool area is always kept very clean...the type of place you don't leave your drink cup behind as it would be very out of place to do so. It was never hard to find a chair with some shade.
The beach is a short walk away, also very clean. There are many kayak and catamaran vendors nearby that you can rent from. Peddlers are constantly walking up and down the beach, selling large conch shells or hats, but never pushy. They make eye contact and ask you if you would like one, and if not they immediately move along.
The staff at the resort have always been fantastic. Some are less talkative than others, but this is usually a language barrier, as English is not their first language. However, if you try to learn a little bit of Spanish, they are very appreciative that you have made that effort.
There is always some form of entertainment going on, whether it is the music and dancing by the pool, bingo, the nightly shows, or holiday celebrations. Many of the different nightly shows involve the same performers each night, which is an incredible feat to be able to have that many dance numbers memorized for each week.
The front desk staff are very helpful for anything that you need, and helpful with assistance finding your way around. There is a bus stop to go into Varadero a short 5 minute walk away, scooters to rent the next resort over, and the staff will call you a taxi if you need it. Wifi is also available in the lobby area if required.
All in all, one of my favorite places in the world to stay. We were very disappointed that we could not come stay in 2020 (there was no option to pick previous years that we stayed of 2018 and 2019), but we are hoping that 2021 we will be able to be back for our third trip. I hope that all of the staff are keeping well and healthy, and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Let me start off by saying that I LOVE varadero and Cuba itself, things go wrong sometimes and that’s okay but I am here to warn anyone thinking about going to this particular resort.
First off I’ll say what I liked about it. The beach was beautiful, lots of room and plenty of chairs. The resort was nice and small so walking to things only took a few minutes. They have a mojito bar at the lobby which was fantastic and a 24/7 bar by the pool, beach bar was good aswell.
Now let me start off with the bad, the rooms were terrible. Very outdated, window in my bathroom (513) wasn’t shut all the way so the mosquitos kept coming in. The door took about 20 mins each time to unlock. Many many many sand fleas here so I would recommend wearing pants in the evening and early morning. The food was terrible. Sure, you cannot go wrong with pasta and bread but the fruits and just about everything else was crawling with bugs and the food was very bland. The staff here will NOT go out of their way to ask you if you need anything, even if you do tip they don’t treat you any differently. There were many fights and nothing was done about it. The same drunk kid was at the bar everyday, fighting with staff and other people who were there. They would cut him off many times then just let him come back and feed him more booze. The staff were extremely rude, especially the women, they will ignore you and roll their eyes and pretend they don’t see you standing there. I wouldn’t recommend sitting outside to eat at the buffet, about 40 birds flying around you and eating off your plate. The fish sandwiches had eyeballs and organs and bones in them. There is hardly any “catsup” so bring your own ketchup. Bring an extra towel, they run out and we had to use the same ones all week.
Bring bubbas!! They give you ONE bottle of water when you get there and you have to keep refilling it everyday (don’t loose your cap), they didn’t have much selection for drinks and were always run out of alcohol. The fridge in the room is never stocked with anything. BYOB I guess. The “orange juice” and many other fruity drinks were bags of powder and sugar they added water to and it was disgusting.
No swim up bar, no activities going on throughout the day except a couple hours on Cuban day and the odd bingo games. No disco or anything like that.
I could go on and on but I would suggest really taking a look at this resort if you’re even considering going on here. WORST resort I’ve ever been too and I will not go back. Save your money and spend it somewhere else. You will be chewed alive, treated terrible and will more then likely starve all week.

Best beach, food was really good, male staff were amazing, Diego was a great waiter.
Female staff were ignorant and rude, maybe it’s Cuban thing!
Towels in general were scarce, Day from the swimming pool area/ beach towel service is incredibly rude, Jenny the room cleaning lady was argumentative and ignorant, majority of front desk staff were not polite and lippy, they just don’t know customer service.
Good luck getting a glass of water if your server is a female, very ignorant.
I won’t go back there or to Cuba in general especially that the Canadian dollar is worth nothing there according to their cuc which is their tourist money, a toothpaste literally cost me $10, everything cost a bundle there, big rip off, I like going to Mexico better.

+1
We arrived Wednesday night. Room was 154. We booked superior room. We entered a room with bugs on floor and a filthy bathroom. There was a hole in sliding door glass it was broken we had to stuff paper in to keep pests out! All superior rooms only have twin beds. We immediately asked for another room they said all booked. We were given another room next day. Nicer room clean and comfortable. Issue—bed bugs middle bed in room 166! We thought we were getting a king size bed and ended up with twins as this was all they had. Mine had bed bugs. Showed management the mess on my back and legs and they said they would deal with it. One night I slept peacefully the rest I was eaten alive. I’m quite a mess now. We explained everything to Sunwing rep who dealt with the management and ended up with a bottle of rum and unlimited reservations at the only decent restaurant that you had to stand in a line each day to try and get reservation for which was closed on Sunday’s. When I thought this was management giving us this I was quickly told by the front desk it wasn’t us giving you this it was Sunwing! Do not change money at front desk. I changed once and went back second day and the price was $50 more and when I questioned she basically called me a liar about the previous price I got. Go to the bank!!!!! First and last time in Cuba

I would start by saying I have been to Cuba and various other resorts many times.
Positives: Beach
Negatives: Everything Else
I found the resort to be in need of repairs almost everywhere. The walkways had missing chunks of concrete. Handrails very wobbly and almost come off in your hands.
Check In: Terrible. Very slow check in. Once you check in you have to wait in another long line to get your safe for 2 CUC per day. It should be included in all inclusive price. Necessary to keep passports and valuables in.
Exchange Rate: Rip off. 65CUC for $100 Cdn. At another hotel we went in the rate was 74CUC. Resort ran out of pesos most days. Rarely had any small denominations to use for tip money.
Drinks: Resort ran out of booze and mix several times during the week.
Buffet: Often had no glasses, plates, or bowls. The spoons were always hidden and you had to ask for one.
Pathways: Desperate need of repair was not lit at night. The lights there but many bulbs were burned out and had to walk along broken pathways in the pitch black.
Linens: No clean towels for a few days. The ones they had were often stained. The sheets / blankets have seen better days and were definitely stained. Bring your own pillow slips!
Front desk staff will ignore you or were rude. Too busy on their cell phones or talking to each other.
You only get 1 water bottle to share between two people for a week.
Food: Terrible. Many people got sick while we were there. Snack bar near the beach was particularly bad.

You have to pay for the wifi in the lobby and pretty much have to use it in the lobby as well. I wouldn't say this resort is for an older crowd but there isn't a disco and the entertainment kinda sucked.
It is nice to relax, for night life you can take a taxi to Varadero or any other place.
I espacialy liked the beach, nice to relax and sleep after a good night dancing in Varadero.
worst hotel to stay in Cuba, horrible food
Hi there is wifi in the lobby area but you have to buy wifi cards for 1 cuc per hour
No it’s not.
