we stayed three nights to study and photograph butterflies in the immediate area. We loved the hillside lodge. It was one of the nicest and most spacious rooms we had had in all our trips to Cuba with a balcony and great views down to the coast. Attractive extensive grounds around the bungalows, which are located a little distance from reception, the bar and dining room. Food was ok but slightly monotonous. Sad about lack of fruit at breakfast and always the same type of dessert. Staff friendly and helpful. Excellent location for climbing a load of steps to the rock. Very nice wild walks on country tracks. Many butterflies. Great fruit stall on the way down.
Stayed here for one night specifically to be on site early to climb to the top. The rooms are perched on the side of the hill above the cloud layer. The interior is very basic, but OK for one night - the toilet worked, the shower had hot water and the food was basically what they had available. The views from the moment we arrived to when we left the following day changed continuously. We climbed to the top as soon as we could, and before the local sellers had even set up shop - the all round views were well worth the effort.
