The people at the hotel are really nice and the hotel is a 31/2 star, but don't let that stop you from checking it out. I have a friend that goes every Jan until end of March and just loves it!Very quiet! Peaceful, lots of fun. There is a Disco bar that's open late and the food isn't bad. It...

Another great trip to Costa Morena! Landed about 5:30 at night - quickly through customs and time to get money changed and beer bought for the trip before we loaded a small bus to the resort. Dark by the time we arrived, but check in went smoothly, rum punch to greet us and then escorted to my room. Ground floor...

The front desk was unorganized upon arrival and it took 3 rooms to get something that was reasonable. Once that was settled, guests and staff were friendly and the stay very enjoyable. There were no surprises.

It was my second time at this resort and 22nd time in Cuba. I definitely recommend Costa Morena for a peaceful, quiet, relaxing vacation – definitely not for party-goers. Not to say it’s boring at all, but you make your own fun and entertainment with people you meet , if you want – or you can stick to yourself and...

My friends and I (group of 7) stayed here March 3-10th. I'm gonna break my review down into sections. The room/resort: Being to Cuba many times I knew to keep my expectations low. The Costa Morena exceeded my expectations. The resort itself is really nice. I loved the pool overlooking the ocean. We were in block 100 (closest to the...

Stayed at Costa Morena for two weeks. The rooms were fine with a fridge and shower in each room. The balcony overlooking the ocean was lovely. There was a pool and although there was no beach, there was a grotto, with many coloured fish in it. It's not deep but good enough to paddle around in. Bring water shoes as...

Ottawa

Hi internal_calm - I found your May 2014 review of Costa Morena very informative. I have been to Cuba 5 times, mostly 2 1/2 or 3 star hotels. I like prefer rustic resorts that are located in the authentic Cuba countryside. I am not interested in giant posh resorts that are stacked next to each other with nothing but green lawns around them. My last 2 trips were to Don Lino in Holguin Province, which I highly recommend. I am considering Costa Morena for my next trip, but I have a few questions that none of the reviews are helping me with. Can you assist?

1) I am a non-swimmer as well. I like to puddle around a sandy beach. I can't manage rocks, ladders, or rough water. You say there is a nice beach nearby. Can you walk to it? How long a walk is it? Which direction? And what do you find when you get there?

2) I will change money at the airport, but I usually run out of money partway through my trip, (I go for 2 weeks at a time). If the hotel is out of money for exchanging, is there anyplace nearby to exchange money? Can you walk or is it a drive? Santiago de Cuba sounds like a $40 cab fare, which I do not want to do if I just need to exchange money.

3) Does this resort have a store? Does it sell rum and/or beer? I like to have a few cans of Cristal in my room for relaxing in the evening.

4) Did your room in 500 block have a fridge? Do you know if all the rooms have fridges?

5) Is there a 24 hour bar? Some reviews make it sound like the bars have short or random hours. What is the bar situation? I am interested in quiet drinks and conversation until bed around midnight. Not into loud disco or party crowd.

Thanks for any information and advice that you can offer!
