I took part in an organized tour and unfortunately was assigned to another hostal. The tour finished early morning and I was supposed to leave for Camagüey at midnight... Nevertheless I wasn't her host, Dulce let me stay there, leave luggage, shower and do anything as if I were at home... without expecting anything! A real treasure in Cuba! I enjoyed my talk with her and her husband and could never forget her laugh. Hostel is very central, Dulce and her co-worker very helpful and friendly. Bathroom and rooms are very clean. One of the best places to stay in Havanna!

We travelled up to Havana from Ceinfeugos on the morning of our flight home having had the unfortunate experience of gastro during the end of my trip around Cuba. Our tour guide gave us Maria's address as somewhere we could base ourselves for the day until our flight. I arrived very sick and unwell and Maria could not have been more kind to me and my husband. Her hostel room was booked so she put clean sheets on her own bed and let me sleep there for a few hours before insisting I ate some 'malanga' that she had made for me to help my stomach. She doesn't speak a word of english, nor me spanish, but it didn't stop us communicating as she is so friendly and kind. She looked after me as if I was her own and even gave me some food to take to the airport with me - despite me not having paid to stay there. On a map the hostel looks slightly out of town but don't let a few minutes walk put you off as you'll be lucky to find a house as big, beautiful and friendly as the one in Havana.

We followed the Lonely Planet's advice and stayed with Maria Dulce. Very lovely host, very helpful even if she didn't speak English which got me to try my Spanish. We got along nicely. Her house is a typical Cuban colonial house, beautiful. Spacious bedroom, though the beds weren't comfortable. Breakfast was awesome, great coffee and friendly conversation. Maria and her husband escorted us at 4:30 in the morning to our bus pick up about 10 min walk from their house. Would recommend her any time

You're looking for a room in a nice old Havana house in the middle of the city center with an authentic, charming host? Look no further - Dulce Hostal is exactly that! The room is simple, clean, and features wonderful high ceilings equipped with double fans. There's also a private bathroom to yourself. Your perfect casa for exploring Havana. Dulce has plenty of helpful tips for food & drinks and is always happy to help or chat. Casas particulares would be my recommendation for anyone that's looking to deep-dive into Cuban life and on that matter, Dulce is a great example - bring your Spanish, because as with most Cubans, this will mean you'll actually be able to speak to eachother and find out more about life in Havana & Cuba.

My friend and I stayed with Dulce for several nights. It was an absolute pleasure to stay with her! Dulce was incredibly kind and generous to us. She was always ready to answer all kinds of questions we had, whether they were logistical or whether they related to Cuban culture/history. Breakfast was something to look forward to: every morning, our conversations were always very interesting, and the kitchen table was covered in a variety of delicious food. We also only decided last minute that we wanted to go to Viñales for a night, where we didn't know where to stay. Dulce immediately called a friend of hers who lives there, and arranged a casa particular for us. Every morning, Dulce gave us some of her homemade guava jam for breakfast. And when she saw that my friend and I both LOVED it, she made us two full 500 mL bottles of fresh jam to take home with us at the end of our stay!!! Oh, and of course, the room and (private) bathroom were very comfortable and clean. Location was perfect. And was definitely cheap for the quality we got -- 25 CUC covered one night for two people AND two breakfasts. Dulce really was dulce (sweet), and my friend Allie and I can only say good things about our stay with her. Highly recommend. Mariam
