I spent in this hotel 3 nights. It is outside the city centre. Taxi costs around 8-10 CUC but you need to agree on a price before you start your taxi drive. A bus will take half an hour and cost nothing 0.1CUC. Hotel is an example of old fashioned architecture. Rooms are spacious but furniture is dated. There are 110V & 220V sockets in the room. Bathroom was nice. There is a hairdryer. Also I need to highlight that there is a hot water and good water pressure in the shower! Air condition is working. Hotel has own swimming pool and loungers. The only minus is- what the hell is going on when they are opening a restaurant? Lots of people are “hunting” for food. I have never seen anything like that in my life. I can only image that people are afraid that something will be gone soon and they will not eat everything they want. There is not enough cutlery, plates, mugs, glasses. Sometimes you stand and wait for a plate. Also I have not seen drinks to be offered which is strange. Overall, it is not bad hotel but do not expect anything besides very low average. WiFi 1 hour is for free, available only in a lobby.…
I was staying for a long stay since I was studying in Havana and my experience in the hotel was very nice, hotel of many years but with an attentive staff. The food pretty good to have supply problems, if I study again I will stay in the kholy
The fastest check in I've seen in Cuba. A little buffet but with a good diversity. And even life shows at the lobby. A place for bowling and a gym so I think that for the price is really good. The people who work there are very nice. Security guys are always watching so even in this safe country they make the stay even safer. The bar is also very well supplied. Their bartenders can bring you almost anything from a typical mojito to a Becky's bomber showing their expertise but if you are just into pure drinks day have different bottles from a tasty Santiago 11 years old to a Bulldog. Rooms are not luxurious but again for the price of the hotel and being in a capital of a country, I think the rooms are comfortable with air conditioning, TV, toilet and even a balcony to relax, think and smoke a good Cuban cigar. There are cameras and policemen in the surrounding so the cars are safe at the parking space. It's at just 20 minutes from the amazing Capitol Building. Really a place to stay…
On monday (10/15) I went to the Transgaviota Bus agency in the Hotel Kohly. I went with my mom (we both speak spanish fluently) and our Airbnb host who is Cuban and lives in the neighborhood. Our host was the one who told us we can request a bus return ticket from Varadero. We purchased 2 returns tickets from the Starfish Cuatro Palmas, however our ticket said Starfish Varadero. When we asked why it said so, she said that the bus knows where to pick us up. Two days later(10/17) at the hotel we are waiting to be picked up. Our ticket said a 4pm pick up, so naturally we were waiting since 3:30pm. Buses passed for hours; including 3 that were transgaviota. Each time a transgaviota bus would pass we would stand up and ask them, they said the bus is probably late and that “el tiempo de cuba corre diferente” Finally at 6:25 my mom gets up and asked to speak to the hotel manager. From his own cell phone he calls Transgaviota to see what the hold up is. Apparently the bus went to another Starfish Hotel, not where we were staying. And that the bus waited at the hotel for 30 minutes before they left. The manager speaks to the representative and asked “if there’s two hotels with the same name why didn’t you call the other hotel with the same name?” The representative responded “we don’t do that. “ after my mother started talking to the representative on the phone he said we can go back to the agency we purchased since it was their mistake, and that we would get a full refund. We asked for his name, he told us it was Fabel. We then had to take a cab from Varadero to Havana. Fast forward to today, we go try to get the refund. The woman who originally sold us and messed up our pick up was there. Saw us, did not even have the decency to take her headphones off!!!!!!!! She spoke to us like we were beneath her when it was her mistake. She told us we can cross the street to the agency office if we need anything because she won’t help us. After speaking to several people and waiting an hour, they told us we can only get a 50% refund. It wasn’t what we were told but we had to do it or lose all of our money. When we went back with one of the specialists to the desk, the attendant FINALLY took her headphones off, and didn’t look at us, and spoke to us in English as if she didn’t know who we were. This experience was truly despicable and the whole company lacks any customer service. Make sure you stay away from this bus service!!! Also: I’ve added the photo of the agent who had her headphones on. …
Stayed Dec 2016. Made reservation on Bookings. Tried and succeeded to charge an additional $190 upon arrival on top of $166/night already paid for bad room, horrible mattress, old out dated facility that was not near any attractions in Havana. Surely staff, bad food in restaurant, poorly run. Further insult on the exchange Rate - totally screwed us. Far better options are Casa Particular in Old Havana. ($50 to $100/night) in great location. Lively, no 10CUC cab rides. Music and warm people everywhere.
