My favorite Casa in Havana! It has all comforts you need.
From the balcony you look out on Belascoaín and a little to the right you see the Malecón and the sea. But the most wonderful place is the terrace, where you can have breakfast under the blue sky (if you order it a day in advance)
The location is, in my opinion, perfect. (Of course I like Habana Vieja a lot, but I do not want to live there.) It is located on Belascoaín between Neptuno and Concordia and it is maybe five to ten minutes walk from Hotel Inglaterra (at El Prado opposite Parque Central). San Rafaél is a nice street to walk on towards El Prado. To the Malecón, it is no more than a five minute walk.
On Neptuno there are all kinds of taxis, westward. If you want to take a taxi to Habana Vieja, you can take it from Concordia or from other streets south of Neptuno, where the traffic goes east towards Habana Vieja.
Best of all is the hostess, Leonor or Leo as she is called. She is very, very nice and extremely service-minded. In addition, she speaks English!
Have a nice stay there! /Mikael (Stockholm)

I started looking at B&Bs 5 days before our departure date and many were booked, I talked to a travel agent and she found a few rooms in the big hotels that were in Vedado, far from where we wanted to be, and the cost varied from $800 to $1200 for 4 nights for one room triple occupancy. 3 days before our intended departure date on our standby flight I decided to use my 8 words of Spanish and call the B&Bs as I wanted a cultural experience not some sterile hotel and of course if we can save some money that means we can eat better and oh did we eat! I called Casa Colonial La Terraza and talked to Nora and she spoke some English but our conversation was clumsy. It sounded like she had space but she wanted me to email her so I did so. I fired off an email and got a response the next morning, her B&B had room. I had heard back from other B&Bs and now had a choice where to stay. After spending a lot of time on Trip Advisor I loved the comments about Nora and her family and although it was not as close as others I chose it. The fact she speaks English was what sealed the deal. I made a list of 10 places that had vacancies just in case we showed up and the place was not ideal. You never know with B&B as there is no rating system like hotels.

We got to the Casa Colonial in Central Havana and it was a moderately rough area but then again that is Havana. We buzzed the little button and Spanish words came flying out of the speaker and they let us in after telling them my name. As we wound our way up to the second floor of this venerable building we were like hmmmm but we opened the door to a smiling faces and an amazing house. The outside of the place is certainly no reflection of the place and people inside. From the moment we arrived they treated us like family, she sat us down and spent 90 minutes briefing us on safety, being careful with our cameras, how to get around, and how not to get screwed with the dual currency. My room was a suite so I had a nice sized living room and kitchen with fridge which was super handy, the best part was the terrace was right outside my door so I was bartender for our evenings of chatting and sipping beautiful 7 year old Havana Club rum. The place was fairly clean, again this is not North America so we can’t expect it to be spotless. I came with the thought in mind that I camp outside in the dirt so if the B&B is not spotless why should I really care and it did exceed my expectations. We asked her where a store was where we could get some beer and bottled water and she said don’t worry she would take care of it and BOOM 20 minutes later we have a bunch of beer and water in our fridge. We really enjoyed our mornings and evenings there, we would get up anywhere between 5am and 9am and they would prepare a fresh breakfast that was the same but we never got tired of it. We could have asked for eggs or other items but we just really enjoyed our simple and healthy breakfast to start the day. Fresh bananas, guava, pineapple, toast, amazing coffee and guava juice and all that for $2 each…what a steal! They offer dinners at the Casa but we were pretty busy so we just ate out. Nora’s lovely sister makes the breakfast and her daughter cooks the dinners. Overall for the 4 nights for the three of us with home made breakfast each day our total bill was 224 CUC so about $240 Canadian so split 3 ways was a mere $80 or $20 a night each! Keep in mind that this is not 5 star luxury, the towels are not the best and they do not match…deal with it. The water system rarely functions in Central Havana so the residents have to rely upon recycling rainwater and truck delivery of water so you cannot have 20 minute showers, it is a get wet, turn the water off, soap up, wash, then turn the water back on and rinse. We totally scored with this place and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to visit Havana. I would not have stayed anywhere else.

Visited Cuba for 4 weeks and wanted to stay in a Casa, with a real family and really explore and get under the skin of Habana. Nora and her family were amazing. The apartment was lovely, it is self contained, with its own entrance so you can come and go as you please. It has a TV, Safe, own kitchenette and en-suite. The house is very well located, you can see the malecon form the balcony, casa de la musica if 5 minutes walk away, and old habana 15 minutes walk.

They can provide breakfast and dinner, the food is amazing, and better than most restaurants,w ith a real range. They help you with everything, organising taxis, Viazul bus tickets, spanish lessons, travelling around the island, if you have have any problems Nora will go out her way to help. I was there during the hurricane, and they looked after me brilliantly, and did not charge me for anything during the time. I really felt part of the family, but also had my space to have people over and do my own thing.

Perfect, will definitley return.

I'll start with the positive things, the terrace is very nice as a common space, the area is convenient for Old Havana and Vedado, walking. The rooms are clean and Nora's sister is a very kind and nice person. Moving on to the negative things, in our experience, the area, although comfortable, is very dirty. There were 6 of us, three couples of friends and we had three rooms. As soon as we arrived Nora welcomed us, offering us a drink and explaining a few things about safety, money exchange, things to see... everything was perfect except that she went on too long, we were very tired after the trip intercontinental, so you also need to understand when to stop and show the rooms for a shower and to give guests a chance to recover. In the evening, in our room, unfortunately in our room we found some cockroaches, not attributable to the lack of cleanliness of the rooms, the fact is that they were there, so we slept in our friends' room and they slept in 4 in another room. Having explained this to Nora, she didn't charge us for the night, she cleaned the room and sprayed products against insects, but made the insinuation that the cockroach that entered my suitcase was perhaps already there, as if I had brought it with me! Another unpleasant episode, in our friends' room water starts raining from the bathroom roof, due to an error, by Nora's own admission. In all this, Nora gone, the cleaning girl gives us a hand, too bad that at night it starts raining again from the bathroom roof, due to an autoclave that had become too full. Our friends run water from the sink to stop the water from the autoclave. In the morning, rightly angry about the night spent, they point it out and Nora's response is to insinuate that they made it all up because there was no water on the ground! What was the point, I couldn't say, also because we paid for everything, including the fourth night which we didn't stay in anymore, because we had enough. Our departure was a liberation!

If you want to have a "shook" book this accommodation. It's a room in an apartment with no window located in a dirty area in Havana ( yes its closed to centre) with dubiously people on the street. The building is an old building with risk of collapse like other building in the neighbourhood.
The host is ok but helps nothing.
If you want a safe and clean location to spend your holiday....run away from the center of Havana, especially from this house!
I have left the house and no refund received.

I had the pleasure of staying almost two weeks with Nora and her family this summer. Nora went out of her way to make me feel welcome and at home. Nora took the time to offer advice and assistance upon my arrival, and every day she spent time helping out guests with onward travel or activities in Havana. The food served was delicious, and evenings spent dining on the terrace were wonderful opportunities to meet other travellers, or spend time with Nora and her lovely family. Nora’s sister prepared a wonderful breakfast each morning, and dinners were delicious. The room itself was very clean, with a bathroom and fridge. The guesthouse itself, located in Centro Havana, is about 15-20 minutes’ walk from Havana Vieja and is very close to the Malecon. It’s also convenient for walking to the University. As I was travelling alone, having a friendly, secure place to stay was very important, and Nora was an exceptional host who looked after me so well, thanks Nora!

I stayed several days at Nora´s place in november and I loved it. Quickly felt part of the family. The room was spotlessly clean, had private bath, air conditioning and a fan. Streetlife can be observed from the terrace while sipping your breakfast coffee. The hostal is very well located in Havana centro, only a few blocks from the famous Malecón. To Havana vieja it´s only a ten minute stroll and to Vedado, where lot´s of the night life is, it´s only maybe 15 minutes. You can order your meals apart – and I have to say the food at Dona Nora´s place is a lot better than in any of the cuban restaurants! You can hardly find a host that concerned to fulfill the travellers needs, the whole family is so helpful - thanks a lot, Nora and your wonderful family, for everything, I miss you already!

Nora and family are great honest people!

We stayed here for 5 nights in February 2011.

The room and bathroom were clean:

- double and single beds. I was on the single and had a better sleep than I do at home.
- private en suite bathroom.
- fan.
- air con (we didn't use it as the fan was sufficient).
- fridge (we didn't use it).
- TV (we didn't use it).

Breakfasts were 3 CUC and included: fresh fruit juice, fruit, eggs, and bread. There was too much food for me to finish so I asked for less.

We had dinner once: Fried fish with onions and a tangy rub/marinade, rice and beans with a chili spice in them, baked sweet potato wedges, and onion, beet, tomato salad. It was also huge and cost 7 CUC. It was really good.

Nora can help you plan your trip around cuba if necessary.

Location was great for us as it is half way between vedado and havana vieja where we were spending our time.

Remember you're staying in a home that was built around 1900 so don't expect a 5 star hotel.

You can book directly through their website: casalaterraza.com

I would recommend staying here and would go back myself.

Nora is a great host. She is a very helpful, sincere, and warm person who tries her best to make the traveler feel comfortable in her country. She got us taxis and arranged it so that we could go to the airport early in the morning and not being ripped off. When we left for Trinidad, Cuba, and also to Cancun, Mexico, our flight was really early in the morning, but she also got up early to see us off. It was very touching and moving and I felt like she was my big sister. The breakfast made by Nora's sister Hermana, consisting of tropical fruits and egg tortilla, for 3 convertible pesos, is memorable too. You can feel that Nora truly feels pride in accommodating tourists, without commercial motive being the priority (in contrast to the casa we stayed in Trinidad). We had a whole annex to ourselves, with a kitchenette with fridge and a small hob, living space and the room. It would help bringing mosquito net because mosquitoes may be a nuisance to sleep. Thank you Nora and the family.

The casa from Nora (the lady who 'owns') is the perfect place to stay when you just arrived in Habana. As we are talking about a casa particulare don't expect 5 star luxury. You will get a good room with a new badroom for the general Cuban Casa price (25cuc).
Nora is very kind and makes you feel very welcome. She will explain you the necessary things you need to no before exploring Cuba and Habana. Good points are that she speaks English and that you can book through email/website (casaterraza.com).
For everybody who reads about the location: It is located in Centre Habana. This is not Habana vieja (the place where you walk around most). Walking towards there is 15 minutes (3 cuc (= about 3 USD) by official taxi, 1 by 'Cuban taxi'). Advantage is that you are closer to Habana Vedado, which you also have to see.
She also offers breakfast and dinner for a reasonable price.
For me the most welcome place I have seen in Habana.

Hi ! No, it is not even close. Where I stay is in central Habana. You are quite a distance from the casa where I stayed. I would guess that a taxi ride one way may cost as much as 20 CUC. You will be in a lovely location, but it is quite a distance from where I stay. There is a bus that runs between the playa and Central Park on an hourly basis that costs only 5CUC. I suggest that you look into that possibility. Have a great holiday! Cuba is a wonderful place to have a holiday. Tom
