Getting there
Somewhat walkable
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travelers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
We have stayed twice at the Yacht Club apartments, once as a couple and once with in-laws and children. The apartments are suited for both. Enough privacy for couples (eventhough located at a main road and lots of traffic, but still quiet) and very spacious for 5 people.
The two- bedroom/two bath apartments are wonderful to stay with friends or a large family, because you each have your own space. One very large living room + kitchen with modern appliances will make your stay very comfortable.
There is a small restaurant on-site for breakfast and dinner and while we never used it, it was always full with happy people (so I suppose the food is good).
The main reason we liked the Yacht Club so much is the location. Very central, you can go diving, out to dinner or go sightseeing for the day and you're never far from anything. The owners were very laidback and friendly, check out was incredible (just leave the keys in the mailbox).
We will definitely go back.

Being first time visitors to Bonaire and intending to spend six weeks there, primarily a diving holiday,we contacted the Bonaire tourism office asking for prices of accommodation, they in turn sent an email to all the providers which certainly saved a lot of hassle on our part. Dana from the yachtclub apartments was one of the first to reply, and the price she quoted for the apartment and pick up truck was well below anything anybody else offered, ( quite frankly unless the reviews said the place was a doss house we would have been stupid to refuse) so after reading the reviews we opted for a one bed apartment. On arrival at the airport a taxi was waiting for us, (free of charge, as was the departure taxi) Having arrived early evening the office was shut, but the driver had already contacted Dana and told us she would be with us in a couple of minutes or so, which she was. She showed us to our apartment, number five, which was on the front of the property, next door but one to the office and adjacent to the main road leading to the town and the north of the island. When I say main road, it is nothing like a main road in England, more like a busy country lane and after 6-7 pm there is very little traffic noise. The apartment had an outdoor covered porch with a table and four chairs, which would be very nice in summer, but as we went in the "rainy" season there were a few mosquitoes about in the evening, so we didn't use it much. The main room consisted of a living room/diner/ kitchen, the living room was approx. 14' x 12' with a table and chairs for two, a 3 seater setee and a lcd tv which had a few American channels, which was a welcome bonus. The kitchen was approx. 14' x 9' with a four ring gas cooker (no oven) a large fridge and a microwave, there were ample pots pans and eating implements, washing up liquid and tea towel. Off the kitchen was a small enclosed yard with a clothes line, which was ideal for drying our wetsuits after a day of diving, unfortunately with it being enclosed this meant there was no through draft from front to back or vice versa, and during the day the heat in the apartment got to be uncomfortable, even more so when cooking but as we were mostly out during the day it wasn't a great problem. There was a.c in the 12'x 12' bedroom, but it could have done with a fan in the living room and bedroom, I'm sure a fan in the bedroom would save the owners some money in electricity used by the a.c. The bed linen was clean, the bed reasonably comfortable and the bed linen and towels were changed every three days or less, and the apartment cleaned. A door from the bedroom led to a walk in closet, which had plenty of hanging space with hangers, then down to the sink, toilet and shower. The shower was heated by electricity, and although the power was okay the water didn't get really hot, which was fine by me but my wife would've liked it hotter, this is the only hot water in the apartment, so a hot shave or washing up water required boiling the kettle. The complex has a small swimming pool, which was clean, cool and refreshing, however the pool loungers leave something to be desired, they are slightly reclined wooden chairs with a wooden footrest that get to be uncomfortable after about ten minutes, if you want to lie out it would be wise to spend a few dollars on a plastic lilo, or go five minutes drive down the road to Eden beach, but be aware that Eden beach charges for non-residents to use their sun loungers. On the complex is a privately operated restaurant, Chez Madeleine which is open for dinner only, all but two nights a week. The food was very good but we found the quantity to be too little and the price too much, but eating out anywhere in Bonaire was not cheap. Having said that there was a very good and reasonably priced pizza place just 200 yards towards town,"Pasa Bon Pizza" some of the best pizzas I've had anywhere. Although the apartments have the grandiose name of Yachtclub apartments, they are not part of a yachtclub, they are not even on the coast, but they are ideally situated. The nearest dive site is only 150 yards away, with another 5-6 within a mile, there is a dive operator 500-600 yards along the promenade, 5 minutes drive into town and the nearest large supermarket. If it wasn't for the few aforementioned minor quibbles I would have given it 5 out of 5. If you are looking for 4-5 star accommodation then this is not the place for you, but I would certainly recommend it to the budget conscious traveller, and I would certainly use it again.

Late Feb. 2008. Changes are underway. While we were there they removed two of their many beautiful palms to make room for a poolside kitchen. There are also plans to rearrange the gear storage, reception area and parking so please ask for current photos before making reservations.
This is a small European style apartment property. Each unit has a kitchen. There is a TV, but no phone or clock. There is only hot water at the shower. Only unit #7, a studio has two baths (don't ask me why). We had a roomy two bedroom - one bath unit. All, but one unit, are on the ground level with a patio. There is a good size pool in a nice setting.
YC is two blocks from Dive Friends and one block from the water front. It is a nice walk into town so use this as another opportunity to slow your pace.
YC is quiet. There were seldom more than two groups at the pool. The sheets and towels are changed every 3 days by a pleasant staff that speaks limited English. Be patient. They will try to figure out what you want and accommodate you. Breakfast is served for a fee. We chose to shop (several nice markets) and make our own breakfast and lunch. Which brings me to restaurants.
Patagonia is great. It is operated by the family that used to run the Casablanca. It is at the Harbour Village Marina. Can't beat their steaks or fish dishes. Save room for flan. Consistently good service and food, now with a nice view.
Casablanca is not the same - not an improvement. The service is unorganized and the street construction noise is a distraction.
Cactus Blue has very friendly service and great pina coladas and food. Casual setting just two houses from the Casablanca but you don't seem to mind the noise while here. Construction is only during the day.
It Rains Fishes has changed. It is under new management that tore out the old island decor and replaced it with cold, stark, colorless hospital atmosphere. The water view can't save it. The food is OK but nothing to write home about. Presentation is non-existant. Save your money and go to the Patagonia.
Tips: For staying at the Yacht Club pack a picnic size salt and pepper, a small travel bottle of dish soap, a wash cloth, and an unbreakable travel glass for each member of your party to use at the pool. For anywhere on the island bring bug spray and carry it everywhere.
Note: The YC management is efficient, but not as friendly as you might be used to in an island setting. If you are from the East Coast you will be used to it. If you need something ask because they don't anticipate (see above "tips"), but may accommodate.
We were comfortable and will return.

We've gone to Bonaire twice in 2003. Both timeswe stayed at YCA. The studios are perfect for a couple. It is one nice sized room. The room hasa futon, glass coffee table, 2 wicker chairs, double bed, kitchen, nice size fridge, nice bathroom withshower only and my husbands favorite: remote controlled air conditioning on the wall by the bed.The units are extremely clean as are the grounds and pool. They don't provide wash cloths or dishwashing soap. The hot water is hit or miss for the shower. The management/owners are very nice as is the night security guard. If you dive, the rinse tanks and dive gear storage area are wonderful. We definately will return.

This was a bad experience. The room was still occupied when i arrived, the lady cleaned it in 15 mins.... so it wasn't really clean. The sheets where in poor condition, luckily i had my own. I booked on booking.com and they refused to give me a refund when i tried to cancel my stay when i arrived there. There were no hot water in the kitchen or the bathroom. The roof above the shower is rotting. The aircon broke twice, the second time was two days before the end of my stay and they did not even send somebody to fix it. No aircon in summer is a bad idea in Bonaire. I could hear every footstep of the people staying above me. All comments and complaints fell on deaf ears. Do not stay here, its not even close to worth it for the money they charge.

The accommodations were in poor shape, no light bulbs in some overhead lights and one standing lamp without a bulb. The drain backed up the day we arrived, and flooded 1/4 of the apartment. Our snorkel gear was stolen from in front of our unit, which was in an inside courtyard. We rented bikes from the hotel. One was stolen (later recovered). They refused to cancel the remaining days on the bike rental. (I didn't feel that it was safe to use the bikes.) When I got angry about this, I was physically thrown out of the office by the owner. Needless to say, the management was terrible, the premises neglected, the experience of dealing with these horrible people caused a lot of stress and loss of sleep. (Please note: this property was bought by new owners 3 years ago, so older reviews do not apply to the current situation.)
So, my advice: STAY AWAY.

I visited bonaire for 2 weeks and also these appartments for a few days. When local people asked me where I stayed, their reaction was a little bit strange. They told me that the owner (a lady ?!) is a scammer and very 'famous' in a negative way on the island. Also in the appartments was nobody from the staff.

We arrived at the Yacht club in the early hours and were shown to our apartment. I don’t give opinions just facts because everyone has different tastes and expectations. We occupied apartment 9 a 2 bed 1 bath. There were 2 generous sized bedrooms (by UK standards). Bedroom 1 had 1 bedside cabinet, a cupboard, wardrobe and chair but no mirror. Bedroom 2 had 1 bedside cabinet and a sofa and a mirror. The bathroom was enormous and consisted of a shower that never failed to give plenty of hot water, a toilet with no lid, a basin with only cold water and a bathroom cabinet. The lounge, dining area and kitchen were open plan The kitchen had sink, hob (no oven), toaster, coffee maker, microwave, fridge and several utensils etc, the sink only has cold water and hot water can be boiled with a hob top kettle. There is also a wardrobe in the kitchen area.
The lounge has two sofas and an easy chair, coffee table, TV with lots of channels. The dining area had a glass table and 4 chairs. The outside patio had a drier and table and chairs.
The apartment was a corner plot so the patio saw very little daylight and we had to have the lights on when in. There is a mosquito problem and we bought mosquito coils for outside dining, we found them adequate and were able to eat outside most evenings.
The dive tack room was sufficient and had plenty of hangers, the rinse tank was a large size and was easy to empty and re-fill when necessary. The only problem we encountered was someone kept parking a red truck right up to the tank which restricted our access.
The owners were very friendly and overall the Yacht Club was an excellent base for diving the reefs of Bonaire, the bed linen and towels were changed every third day and we were able to stay in the apartment on the last day until it was time to leave.

We just returned from a week long stay at the Yacht Club Apartments in Bonaire. We had stayed at Yacht Club five other times prior to 2010. The previous manager and owner (Yolanda) was fantastic and the property was well maintained and set up for divers. It was also set up for short time rental for vacationers.
We decided to stay at Yacht Club apartments again for our recent Bonaire visit because of its convenient location and price. We were honestly shocked by the difference in the facilities when we arrived. The Yacht Club Apartments are now an apartment complex for people living on the island and are no longer really a place for vacationers who are divers.
The one positive I do want to say is that the two managers we dealt with during our stay were friendly, helpful and accessible.
As far as facilities though, there is no rinse tank and locked storage room for divers. Dive gear cannot be left in your truck because of theft so you have to carry your gear into your apartment at the end of each dive. The pool was a weird color of green and very dirty, the outside bathrooms and shower were no longer usable, pool chairs were broken, and the restaurant on site is no longer in business. In the apartment there was no hot water, the lighting was minimal, the mismatched random dishes in the cupboards were very dirty, the towels had stains, the kitchen faucet would not shut off so we had water dripping/running the entire visit, the walls need to be painted, the one TV was very old, the safe was rusted shut, and overall the apartments are run down and are in desperate need of renovations. The room was cleaned twice during our visit and both times, the service was great.
The truck we rented had a tire that lost air and needed to be filled every other day, the inside was filthy, and the tailgate did not go down (not great for loading/unloading tanks and dive gear).
The price was reasonable for the truck and apartment but again, this is NOT the same Yacht Club Apartments. When looking at pictures they have on their website, make sure to look at the dates.

We rented a studio apartment for 4 nights. Check in was quick (we booked online) but we had to call someone to come check us in because the front office was closed (not sure why). They had 2 phone numbers posted on the door with a sign that tells you to call for them to come over. It was fine for us because we had a local cell phone, but it made me wonder what other tourists would have to do in a similar case. The owner, Dana, was very nice and helpful when she arrived just a few minutes later. We were traveling with our 8 month old baby and she provided us swiftly with a few extra necessities (towels, extra sheets).
The studio was furnished o.k. and the bed was comfortable. We liked the fact that the door and windows have security bars. Wifi was free and pretty fast. The only disappointment was the pool, which was really dirty and not usable during the days we were there. The grounds could also use more lighting at night, especially in the back parking area. Other than that we had a nice stay and liked the fact that it is close to town. You get what you pay for. Would consider staying there again.

As a matter effect, there is a very nice restaurant on the resort called Chez Madeleine with Master Chef Jan Buyens from Belgium. Also Spice Beach Club is on walking distance (600 meters) where you also can enjoy the beach
You will be on the other side of the boulevard that has a walking lane to the center of Kralendijk where you can find all other hospitality including grocery stores. Remember it's 33 degrees Celsius and walking is not the most pleasant thing in these weather. Feel free to rent a (electric) bike or scooter at Bikerental Bonaire (same owners as YachtClub) for easy exploring the island.
Kind regards.
Marc
