The treatment we received here was 5 stars. The owner of this establishment has to be one of the kindest, most humble person I know. We had last minute reservations. He met us at the airport, took us on a small tour of the area, made motor scooter accommodations, recommended places to eat and get snacks..just an all around nice guy. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I would definitely recommend and go back again!

Aqua Viva Suites was a very lovely little place. Very clean, the owner very friendly and accommodating. He was very helpful in many ways, helped me obtain a rental car when I needed it. Nice large room with living room and kitchen. Very clean and pretty little swimming pool. Excellent soundproofing, never heard people in the rooms next door, didn't even know they were there until you chatted with them outdoors. Great AC when needed. Great location, 2 wonderful delicious restaurants a few steps away. If you are there for SCUBA,. VIP Scuba right next door and a great friendly SCUBA place. Very professional and friendly and helpful. I think most people staying there either do SCUBA or fish, my sister did SCUBA, but I didn't, and I had the pool pretty much to myself all day, as all the other guests seem to be gone all day. That was very nice. The only 2 challenges I found, and this is me. I share this only because these things are important to me. I am very particular about my bed, and this bed needs serious updating. Either a topper pad, or a new mattress altogether. Very low to the floor (I know some people like that, but I don't) and very little padding. I slept very poorly, but again, that's probably just me, and I was not feeling well also. Also, the temp of the shower was just slightly above lukewarm. I like a nice hot shower, this definitely is not that. I spoke to the owner about it, and he told me they have to keep the temp at this level for safety purposes. He told me what that temp was, which I guess is "normal", I didn't know quite what the number he told me means, I don't know centigrade, but it was not hot at all. I travel a lot, and I have never been in a place with such lukewarm shower water. I guess it doesn't matter that much when you are in 80+ degree weather. But, I love a nice hot steamy shower, even in hot climates. This was definitely not that. If that doesn't bother you, then its no problem. I happened to catch a cold on the plane coming, and wanted to warm up in a shower with not feeling well, especially at night, but it was not to be. I had to wait until the next morning and sit outside in the warm sun to finally feel warm. Of course, that is no fault of the place my being sick, but it would have been nice to have had either a warm shower or bath, or even a more comfortable bed when feeling unwell. However, the place delivers exactly what it says it does. A lovely stay. Pretty. clean. Very kind and accommodating owners. It was not their fault if I felt unwell, and I didn't even share it with them. Nothing they could have done anyway. Every thing I asked of them, they delivered. It's a great place to stay for people out and about this wonderful little island. Bonaire itself is fantastic! My new favorite island, whether you are a SCUBA person or not. I will be back.

The wonderful hospitality began before we even arrived on the island, with host Miguel offering to meet our flight and also setting up our suite to have a separate bed for my son. Miguel continued to check in with us throughout our stay, and it was always a pleasure to come back to fresh towels and a tidied home away from home. Looking forward to staying at Aqua Viva again next year!

Aqua Viva is a small family run hotel, run by Miguel, Daysi, Michael & family. I enjoyed my stay at Aqua Viva so much last year that I returned again this year without hesitation. They made me feel so welcome and well looked after that this feels like my home whenever I'm in Bonaire. One time I was having difficulty reaching the airline international phone number, Miguel was very helpful & organised an appointment with an airline person at Bonaire airport. The suite I stayed in is very spacious, very clean and with all the amenities I needed. It includes a fair size kitchenette with small cooker top, microwave, good size fridge/freezer and all the other amenities like kettle, coffee maker, pots, pans, crockery, silverware etc. There is also a couch and small dining table with 4 chairs. The porch area is spacious and there is a lovely swimming pool with nice lounge area. The bed is big and very comfortable, and there is an armoire/cabinet with hangers and drawers where you can put away and organise all your things, including a nice rack to rest your suitcase. There is also a safe to lock up your valuables, not that I ever felt I needed to, but very convenient. The sheets were very clean, which is one of the most important things for me. The regular cleaning service is great, and I was always asked if there was anything I needed in this respect. I found this very satisfactory. The bathroom is also a good size and very clean. They provided all the towels (including beach towels), soap, shampoo, conditioner etc I needed. The suite had both a/c and 2 ceiling fans, giving perfect options for comfort. The hotel is also walking distance from a couple good restaurants, and downtown (shops, restaurants, bars etc) is only a bit further for those who don't mind a 10-15 min walk. I will certainly be looking forward to staying here again in the near future. JP

I spent a week in July at Aqua Viva Suites, which I selected because of its location next to VIP Diving and because of the reviews, which glowed about the wonderful hospitality of owners Miguel and Daysi, who pick guests up at the airport, take them back, and make them feel welcome during their stay. I love staying at small inns with excellent customer service, so Aqua Viva sounded ideal. I was not disappointed by the property’s loveliness. Palm trees studded with coconuts were planted throughout, an a mango tree heavy with fruit grew just outside the office. A freeform pool with a whirlpool, lounge chairs, and a pavilion with seating and tables were available for guests’ use. The owners’ son, Michael, informed me that I’d been upgraded — wonderful! — and showed me my suite: suite 2, just steps from the pool. It had a private porch with seating, a small table, and a folding drying rack for wet beach towels, swimsuits, and diving gear. Pane-glass doors with blackout curtains led to a cozy den furnished with a couch, table, and flatscreen TV. The kitchen area featured a dining table with chairs, a full-sized fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster, sink, large countertop, and cabinets stocked with glassware, dishes, utensils, and cookware. The sleeping area featured a queen-sized bed, a dresser, and wardrobe, with a nook equipped with a luggage rack. The bathroom featured a full-sized tiled shower and was stocked with plenty of ribbon-tied towels, a half dozen shampoo bottles nestled on a bed of shells, and soap. The suite also had air conditioning and three ceiling fans, plus plenty of lights, and tropical colors and decor. The perfect oasis for an island stay! Bird watchers can view a variety of birds from poolside: green-shouldered parrots, tropical mockingbirds, bananaquits, and hummingbirds all frequented the palm trees and perched on the stone fence separating Aqua Viva from VIP Diving next door. Divers have VIP at their fingertips, with the Sebastian’s Reef dive and snorkeling site just over a block away. Beach goers have a 1.25-mile walk south to Te Amo Beach, a sandy stretch perfect for snorkeling and swimming, with food trucks on site. The Flamingo Airport is a mile away, as is Avis, and Aqua Viva has a parking lot for guests’ vehicles. Downtown Kralendijk, with its restaurants, boutiques, historic buildings, marinas, water taxis to Klein Bonaire, and seaside walkways, is less than a mile’s walk north. Sebastian’s and Joe’s, two popular restaurants, are less than five minutes from Aqua Viva, and Macho Scooter Rentals is across the street at the Van der Valk resort. For those with a car, 10 minutes’ drive south takes you to the start of Bonaire’s amazing southern dive sites… and to the Donkey Sanctuary. Aqua Viva is indeed perfectly situated for guests wishing to explore the island, dive, or simply enjoy a relaxing beach or poolside getaway. However, there are some drawbacks. For starters, it is more AirBnB than hotel. There is no staff on site. When I arrived at the airport, a taxi driver — not a smiling Miguel or Daysi — was there to transport me to Aqua Viva. There, I discovered there was nobody in the office to check me in and let me into my room. The other guests — a church group from Washington State — kept me company until Michael arrived to check me in… 20 minutes after my arrival on site. Michael handed me an information sheet with contact information should I need anything. Unfortunately, the two numbers were solely for WhatsApp, which is not widely used in the US due to its cybersecurity issues. I had no idea at this point that there would be no on-site staff. It took me one day to figure out the A/C and locate the ceiling-fan controls. Little additions could improve the stay: hooks on the bathroom door for pajamas, little bottles of body lotion (Bonaire is a desert island) in addition to the plentiful shampoo, and Kleenex! I had to use toilet paper to blow my nose, tidy my makeup, wipe up splashed water, and as napkins because no paper towels or napkins or tissues were provided. The biggest drawback is the lack of presence by the owners. This seems to be known by the locals, because on two afternoons I encountered a pile of bikes on the sidewalk and a bunch of kids playing, fully clothed, in the pool. The owners’ daughter also views the guest facilities as her family’s own swimming pool: on another afternoon, she brought her children and another woman and the continual running, splashing, and shrieking of the older children chased away a trio from the church group and made it impossible to relax at poolside. On-site staff would have also been helpful one morning when some animal — none of us knew what — left 59 partially eaten mangos on the walkway to rot and start smelling in the sun. I sadly never experienced Miguel and Daysi’s famed hospitality. I never met or even spoke to them. The closest I came to that was when I had an accident and ended up at the Kralendijk ER. My son, back in the States, had to download WhatsApp to reach them to see if they could possibly provide me with a ride back to Aqua Viva. Unfortunately, the last time they’d checked the app was 6 hours earlier. I ended up walking back from the ER, and they only responded to him the next morning and never checked with me to see if I was all right. I got myself to the airport for my flight home. Summary: if you are seeking a place to stay on Bonaire, away from the bustle of downtown Kralendijk but close enough to walk to beaches, shopping, dining, and diving, Aqua Viva is the perfect choice. It is cozy, with beautiful grounds, lovely, well-appointed accommodations, and an inviting pool deck. If you are seeking a hotel experience, with on-site staff that can be easily reached in person or by telephone and can ensure that guest facilities are for guests only, Aqua Viva is not the choice to make unless you’re willing to take the excellent along with the not so good. I usually give accommodations two tries before writing them off, so I will consider staying at Aqua Viva again when I return to Bonaire this fall. It is my hope that the amazing hospitality experienced and reported by previous guests might be available then.

Spacious room, friendly and helpful staff with lots of tips and free airport transfer. Great shower. Nice pool area with lots of room. Some nearby restaurants (we liked Joe's) with many others about 1.5k away. Quiet area. Most rooms have a covered, dedicated outdoor sitting area. Ours (the cheapest room) did not. If I went again I'd spring for a better room. There was a place to sit, just not "ours" and not covered so not protected from rain.

We came to Bonaire for three weeks February into March and stayed at two different properties. This was definitely our preferred choice! The Owners are lovely and on our first day we were able to leave our food in our unit and could have left our luggage if required. Thanks Michael. We had a Deluxe Studio Suite (no 2 ), which is just as in photos, also bathroom was fine with soaps and shampoo. Our porch area was a great spot to sit at any time and even with building work opposite felt peaceful! One of our plugs in kitchen didn't work but not a major problem! Very pleasant pool, which we used a fair bit and not many mosquitos, a great bonus as I had been bitten quite badly at our previous property! Plenty of sun beds in shade or sun and other chairs and a hammock!! Although we had a car for all of our stay, we could have managed possibly without as Aqua is so well placed. Kralendijk is definitely walking distance 10/15 minutes and indeed we did most evenings. Supermarket is probably a 20 minute walk and Te Amo Beach (great for snorkelling) a 30 minute walk. We found the choice of restaurants much better than our visit 5 years ago although not cheap, but didn't feel we had a bad meal! Our favourite was probably Joes around the corner, not a stunning setting but super food and staff! Another favourite was Bon Tapas Bar in Town the food was gorgeous and Sangria very nice too!! On our last day we were able to leave our luggage in reception and Miguel kindly took us to the Airport at our requested time , which was perfect. Aqua Viva is a great choice if you want a chilled stay and gives you options for eating in or out and staying in or going out!! If we return to Bonaire we will certainly be staying at Aqua!!
