Detailed Reviews
The habitat of captain Don is on the sea, the restaurant is on the edge of the sea on a prominence overlooking sunsets or the dive boats at mooring . The sun always shone, clean fresh drinking water flows out of the taps, the ocean water is crystal and filled with life. A buoyancy checkout dive becomes a full scale diving brochure just off the dock, tropicals in profusion.

We have been going to Captain Don’s to dive for years and have watched it fall in disrepair. The rooms need help - deep cleaning, new mattresses, paint and just some TLC. The staff used to be friendly and helpful, but that has gone by the wayside. The restaurant prices are exorbitant, and the food does not reflect the price increases. The dive operation is pitiful. The lockers are a mess - the doors are literally falling off the hinges and the rest of them are rotting with paint chipping off onto our dive gear. The rinse tanks are filled in the morning and left there all day. The rinse water is disgusting by the end of the second dive. I empty the tanks and refill them myself because I don’t want my gear in that water. That is just unacceptable.

Just got back from a lovely week at Captain Don's. My second time to Bonaire but first time to Captain Don's. Stayed in a two bedroom bungalow which as others have mentioned is 'rustic' and could use a coat of paint. The pool out front was undergoing renovation but will be super cool when it's done for future guests to enjoy. Diving was top notch, dive shop great and accommodating to your diving needs. Boat rides were friendly, fun and easy do to. Get your 'to go' nitrox out of the locker before closing 5pm or you're stuck dragging them up from the bottom of the hill. We used our truck and had great off site dives as well, but Don's makes it really easy to get a fat package of boat dives and just kick it at the resort. Breakfast buffet was good, typical fare but friendly staff and a great view. Short order available if the buffet doesn't suit. The bungalows are away from the water and I'd probably stay in a beach front and get two rooms, but the 2 bed was a great space to spread out in. Showers hot, beds comfy, air con cold. Maid service was very good. We used Tweel and the other grocery store across the street for lunch meats, cheeses, snacks and beer. Tap water is awesome to drink and use for ice.

A really nice hotel that has a good location on the coast of Bonaire, where you can see many great fish while snorkelling at the hotel jetty.
We had a family bungalow which was really spacious with one living room, 2 baths , 2 bedrooms and a large terrace and everything was very clean and set in a beautifully landscaped garden.
The breakfast buffet offers plenty of choice and although we did not eat at the Rum Runners's Restaurant during our stay, which is located on the terrace with a beautiful view, we got the impression that it seems to be very good and that it was well attended every evening, which is why the very nice staff at the hotel reception ask you to book a table before you visit.
At the bar, delicious cocktails are conjured up that are second to none.
Kralendijk is within half an hour's walking distance and there is a supermarket only five minutes away where you can get everything you need.
The hotel is also a good starting point for excursions by rental car, as it takes no more than 40 minutes to get to either the southern or northern end of Bonaire.
All in all, I can say that we had a wonderful time and highly recommend the hotel.

Captain Don’s was a disappointment. Yes, we were on vacation in beautiful Bonaire, but Captain Don’s was just “adequate” at best.
Upon arrival, we were given a mediocre welcome with no explanation as to where anything was or how the dive shop operated. We had to put down a $600.00 deposit for the hotel and a $500.00 deposit for the attached restaurant. This was not a terrible issue for us but for someone travelling on a budget, $1100.00 is a lot of money to have tied up for over a week.
Our room was very basic, reminiscent of a 2 star type motel. You have to lock your door from the inside with an actual key, which seemed unsafe, in the case of a fire. There were several times we would go to leave and remember to get the key out and unlock the door so we could exit.
Maid service was very hit or miss. A few times during our stay we would come back late afternoon and they had not touched the room, or they did part of the room and never came back. One time, they left our door unlocked (thank God we used the safe). There was just no attention to detail.
The restaurant was PAINFULLY SLOW. We would try to have lunch in between our dives and would often almost miss the boat. The service was very nonchalant and aloof, sometimes borderline rude from the female server. The food was very good once we received it.
We showed up at the bar the first night to be ignored and then treated as if we were a hassle. The prices for drinks were pretty high and we never went back after the first night. This is unusual for us as we love to hang out at the bar when we are on diving trips to meet and visit with other divers.
There is no pool service, so you have to get out of the pool and walk around (a fair distance) to the bar to get drinks. The one time I did this, I was admonished for getting their (outside concrete) floor wet.
The dive shop was just meh. The boats were decent but they took us to several of the same dive sites over the week. We observed a newer diver being admonished very publicly, which made me feel bad for them.
The dock was torn apart when we were there which made for an interesting time getting in and out. They started tearing the gear lockers apart while we were there and did not tell us beforehand. They took gear out of peoples lockers and just laid them on open tables.
After leaving, I noticed that the restaurant charged me for food and beverages leftover from someone who had used our room from a month before we arrived. Make sure you really check your receipts to make sure they don’t add someones tab to yours.
While there we walked over to Buddy Dived and when we come back to Bonaire, that is most likely where we will stay.
Captain Dons needs to step it up.

Capt. Don's is a scuba-focused resort that's somewhere between a hotel and a resort. It's largely under construction and although the noise wasn't too bad it's not pretty to look at. We stayed in one of the two-bedroom cabins with a kitchen. It felt a lot like summer camp with old appliances, a rickety screen door, and a complete lack of comfort. There was a lawn in front with plastic grass.
We did have a nice front porch with seating so we had most meals out side. We're very happy to have had a kitchen because the food there was generally awful and the service was worse. For breakfast they ran out of coffee, butter, and bread. It took 30 minutes for someone to brew a bot. The eggs and bacon and meat in the warmers on the buffet were dry as dust. There was no fresh fruit except for some bananas. After two days of this we decided to just make food in our cabin even though we had purchased the breakfast package, it was that bad. Dinner wasn't much better but the pizza was okay. Drinks were expensive. The service was surprisingly rude. There seemed to be a staffing shortage and no one was happy about it.
The diving was a bit loose and free, which is what this shore diving destination is supposed to be about. I would have preferred to have full air tanks instead of grabbing half empty ones. We ended up taking a few extra for each dive just in case. We did two boat dives and they were okay. We drive all the way to one destination only to find that it was full and we had to do a different destination which was a repeat for some on the boat and they weren't happy. The dive masters were okay. They didn't point anything out and in my opinion, having 13 people surface with completely empty tanks is not a safe dive but no one seemed to care.
On the plus side the house reef is really nice and we dove it almost every afternoon. The showers are nice and hot and the beds aren't bad. If you don't scuba dive there would be no reason to put up with the lack of comfort or good food though. If you want to scuba with a large group, which seemed to be most of the guests, this place is fine.

Well we came to Captain Don’s Habitat. Facility looked nice but don’t let that fool you. Maid service was terrible! They did not change sheets but once a week, they would pick up towels on the floor but did not replace then daily some days we did not even have towels for showers. Captain Don’s Habitat charges you to use the safe in the room.
Worst of all the dive shop was a joke. We had 17 people in our group and they gave us only 1 dive master, yes for all 17 of us. There was no deck hand and no real help.
Some times the dive master would exit the water while people were still in the water .

The rooms were comfortable, clean and spacious with daily room service. The rooms have a big patio that was comfortable to store all the diving gear. There's also a restaurant in house that prioritizes the hotel guests and has good lunch and dinner options for vegetarians.
The highlight was the dive shop. We were certified in open water diving very recently and wanted more support in the water as we worked on our skills. The daily boat rides from this resort were convenient and did a great job helping us get more comfortable. We did 7 dives over 3 days (they do 3 boat dives every day and it's extra $$).
We loved diving with Cristina, Ludson and others and would be happy to stay here again.

No, it's not all-inclusive. There is a restaurant and bar on property, and you can open a tab for the week and sign to your room but it's a la carte. There are many great restaurants on the island, so you'll want to get off property sometimes!
