We booked a penthouse three bedroom suite for our stay in Bonaire. We planned a diving trip with friends and brought along our children. The rooms are spacious with stylish furniture, large bathrooms and comfortable beds. The resort is in an excellent location, oceanfront, about mid-way between the dive sites on the western side of the island. The hotel also has a Dive Friends location which makes diving extremely convenient for completing your initial buoyancy check (Bonaire requirement) and changing tanks. Our kids loved the pool and beach. The grounds were clean and well-kept. We did however experience some problems: upon arrival our room had a broken pipe causing flooding in one of the bedrooms and another bedroom had a broken AC unit. The hotel was full and they were not able to change our room for two nights so we had workmen in and out constantly and couldn't use two of the rooms. Initially, staff were difficult to deal with and we could not find a manager. Ultimately, they recognized the problem and compensated us for the first two nights plus covered our cleaning fee and provided a $100 gift card for the bar and restaurant. Overall, I think that Delfins is above average and could be a top-notch property with some additional attention to detail and friendlier customer service.

Property's Favorite Review
We traveled with friends and stayed in a 3-bedroom panoramic penthouse suite. Beautiful views, gorgeous beach, updated and well thought out facilities. Quality through and through. Pricey food but REALLY great cuisine - high end gourmet. Groups of cruise ship passengers get brought in using day passes and even with their presence it did not feel overcrowded. Very friendly staff who go out of their way to be helpful. There was construction going on when we first arrived. Staff made sure to deal with our complaint of noise and really made great efforts to ensure our satisfaction.

Recent one week stay at the resort Swimming Pool Very nice pool, likely the best one on the island, they also have a nice sand beach. Hotel room Ocean view studio room is a bit small. Room uses 2 twin beds which means couples are sleeping in separate beds even when pushed togther the blankets are made to fit one twin bed only, you may find yourself on the floor in the morning if you get caught in the crack between the beds they slide apart easily. The bathroom has the shower and toilet sharing space, the floor in the bathroom gets wet everywhere since the shower is not separate from the toilet or sink. For motorhome owners this is just like an RV bathroom only you get to pay a lot more for it and get a little space, happy camping. You have to pay extra to stay cool in your room, AC is an added charge of $15 per day and the thermostat only goes down to 72. If you are paying for AC you would think you could turn the temp down. The cloths closet and the table in the room are cheap and look like those cabinets you twist together with the screwdriver included in the kit from China, the dresser in our room was twisted. Looked like it belonged in a low dollar hotel. Breakfast buffet or not The breakfast buffet is a euro continental breakfast, at best it is worth $5, do not waist your money on this buffet it is a bread and (1) egg buffet. You can get yogurt, fruit and a slice of cold lunch meat, no bacon, no toast, coffee cup looks like it is from a childs tea set. The restaurant opens at 7am and and you need to rush through breakfast to make the dive boat which leaves from the Marriot about a 10 minute drive. No charging meals or drinks to your room bill here, they are separate. You also cannot run a tab at the bar for the stay, a bit of a hassle and not the norm for a resort. The staff working breakfast seamed a bit cold and unfrieldly, if you get to the restaurant a few minutes early in the morning they just seamed to get annoyed and that carried over for the week. This breakfast is a disappointment we read reviews before we booked and expected a real buffet not bread, an egg and yogurt. The menu mostly caters to the euro crowd, they have a few things that those of us from North America like but they try to put an odd twist on them. For example I would like to see a good 1/3 lb hambuger on a beach bar menu, they have some odd 3" round hamburger that is a like 4" tall. This may sound picky but if you like a beer and a burger for lunch this is going to disapoint you. They do have natchos on the lunch menu, you get about 10 chips and a couple of ounces of guacamole $9.

I will start with the positive about this trip. Our room was nice but when we checked in we were on the fourth floor with a broken elevator and no help with our luggage. I am not a princess so taking it upstairs wasn't a deal breaker. The welcome drinks were nice but that is where the service ended. During a seven day stay, our room was cleaned (I use the term loosely) once! Our ocean view room faced sideways but if you looked around the corner you could see the ocean. Now the major difficulty! When at the bar or bar restaurant, it took an act of god to get service and/or a drink! God forbid we get two!! I asked for my drink to be blended and the bartender refused saying that was not how it was to be made. He (they) ignored us even when walking up to the bar. Now, the people that spoke dutch got served quite quickly and were treated much differently. The pool is nice but again - don't think you are going to sit around and get served or even asked if you would like a drink because it won't happen. I must also say - it was NOT busy in the least. In fact, I understand we were at the end of the season and it seemed as though the staff had already "checked out". We travel all over the world and were excited to visit Bonaire as advanced scuba divers. We will never recommend this resort and definitely will never return. The only upside to this whole place is their Michelin Restaurant - Brass Boar. The food and staff was outstanding! I would recommend staying somewhere else and enjoying the ambiance of this restaurant.

Had a 7 night stay at this property and overall a very nice resort but has some euro quirks that Americans may not like. We had an ocean view studio room on the second floor with a nice view of the beach and the ocean. The room has a small electric stove with a microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker. This is a euro type room that has two twin beds pushed together to make what looks like a king bed but the blankets and sheets are for two twins so you are basically sleeping in two separate beds. If you are a couple that like sleeping together this does not work it is intended to be for two people sleeping in separate beds. For my wife and I if we were to stay here again they will need to have a single queen or king bed or we will go to another resort. Another odd thing about the hotel room is in order to lock the door when inside the room you use your room key from inside the room and you are literally locked in your room, pull the key from the lock and you cannot get out of the room. This seams bit unsafe to me you could lock the door and if there were a fire and the key were not in the lock you are trapped. The bathroom was small and odd, the toilet is in the shower so once you shower the toilet is wet, in fact the whole bathroom gets wet when you shower and you need to dry the floor. The mirror in the bathrooms are mounted high centered for a about a 5' 10" person, if you are under 5' 4" you may not be able to use the mirror in the bathroom. Room Air Conditioning Air conditioning is not included in the room rate, they charge another $15 per day for air conditioning on top of the room rate and then they have the thermostat locked so it only goes down to 72 F (22 C). Restaurant We purchased the daily breakfast buffet but again it is euro type breakfast that is mostly breads with no hot meats included (no bacon). They bring you a single cold cut per person for meat and you can have an egg or omelet, yogurt, fruit and waffles. The cost of the breakfast buffet is $23 per day and it is really only a continental breakfast that I would only pay $10 for tops. The breakfast is overpriced and and it is hard for me to imagine anyone especially people from the US or Canada being satisfied. The breakfast service needs some work, you would have a hard time getting a smile out of the service people. Another thing you should be aware of is if you are a diver the breakfast opens at 7 am but you need to be done by 7:30 to make the boat, you need to rush through your breakfast to stay on schedule and they won't open it earlier. Bar The bar serves the usual drinks and some food, it is nice and near the water. The bar and the restaurant are operated separately from the hotel and you cannot charge anything to your room. This would not be a problem if you could run a tab at the bar for the stay but the bar will not allow you to run a tab over your stay so you have to pay before you leave the bar every time. Not typical for resort.
