A disappointing Afternoon Tea at Sandy Lane! Just the two of us to celebrate my husband's birthday. Found the selection was too much concentrating on the desserts and far outweighed the savouries which were pitiful. Some of the cakes were dried out and so sickly sweet that we couldn't eat them. The table setting as well was like sitting in a corridor outside the boutique shop. Would not recommend or return. However, our waitress, Hetty, looked after us really well.

There have been some rather harsh reviews in recent months, criticising service and food, even housekeeping etc and denigrating the sunbed policy - but I have to say that our experience was very far from that and was superb from top to bottom. The hotel itself is amazing well designed, bright and airy throughout but the high-spot is clearly the training that has gone into the staff and entire team resulting in a superb culture of exemplary service delivered in a friendly and efficient way. It’s hard to get things this right in the hospitality trade, so full credit to the GM and his team. We tried all the food offerings, starting with Sunday Brunch in Bajan Blue (we arrived just in time) and then sampling L’Acajou and Bajan Blue for dinners and the latter for breakfast, plus it’s bar for snack lunches; the food was of the highest quality (how they consistently achieved this is a miracle on it’s own given the supply issues in a caribbean island) and the service, as everywhere, exemplary - but friendly; we were always addressed, right from the off, by name - but not in a stuffy way, always with a smile and friendly greeting. Our room was always serviced on demand during the day, apart from the occasion when we inadvertently touched the ‘DND’ button!) plus, it seemed, refreshed on numerous other occasions whenever we left the room and of course the ‘turn down’ service whilst at dinner; always spotlessly clean and impeccably finished, with a couple of ‘special requests’ immediately actioned. We had no quibble with the sun bed allocation policy; yours is allocated on day 1 and kept for you until 11:00am, at which point it is made free for other allocation that day. But if you are late they simply allocate you an alternative; simple and effective in our view. Plus, the servicing of towels plus chilled water and face wipes were frequent and very welcome. TGhe onnly problem with the beach, and it’s not sunbeds, is the ongoing erosion that will have to be addressed in some way if SL are not to risk losing a USP. The shuttle to the Country Club seemed quite quick on the occasion we used it; 5 mins wait going up and 2 mins coming back; perhaps we were lucky - or others unlucky. If I wrote more I would be repeating complimentary comments left by others, all of which are more eloquent than I could hope to emulate - but I totally agree with the comments on ‘so Sandy Lane’ etc; suffice it to say that very quickly after arrival we fell into feeling totally at home and totally comfortable; which is clearly that they want to achieve for their guests. All told a fabulous time, and we hope to return one day (health permitting).

My husband had booked us Afternoon Tea as an anniversary surprise and it was wonderful. From the moment you walk into the hotel you can understand why it is so special. The AfternoonTea was fantastic with everything freshly made and we didn’t feel rushed, Jackie was our waitress and she was so friendly and down to earth, when she knew it was our anniversary she arranged for a special cake and sparkler to be delivered to us while we were having a drink on the terrace. Overall a wonderful experience and we would recommend to try it.

Many years ago, I used to swim up and down the beautiful beach and wonder what Sandy Lane was really like inside; I knew it would be very fancy but I wasn't prepared for how friendly and relaxed it would be. In just a short stay, we ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at the restaurants, all super! The sunset over the golf course was truly a moment I will never forget, just stunning. The spa is also a hidden gem, thank you Laura 🙏 Overall, the hotel surpassed all my expectations, especially the friendly staff team, thank you to everyone we met who made our stay so welcoming and special. The team were so thoughtful and considerate, by day two, the saying of the holiday was "so Sandy Lane", meaning so perfect/step ahead/better than hoped for. Thanks everyone, hope to be back before too long ☺️ xx

We visited Sandy Lane for afternoon tea whilst in Barbados. There is valet parking when you arrive and you are shown down to the restaurant. Seated with a view of the sea and Sandy Lane resort. Our waitress (Jackie) was excellent we were treated like royalty and she was hoot. Which is particularly commendable having worked there for 25 years! The food was outstanding as you would expect and there was plenty of it. The coffee was fantastic and detailed with the Sandy Lane logo. Fresh iced water on tap was refreshing. We couldn’t eat all of the food so they boxed it all up for us and presented it in a boutique bag. It was my husbands birthday so they also bought out a birthday cake (including sparkler) which was a nice touch. Following afternoon tea we decided to have a few drinks on the terrace which again were exquisite - I can recommend the rum punch. We had a little wander around the hotel whilst we were there and it is very much as you would expect a place to be where the rich and famous choose to holiday. We will definitely return it was very reasonably priced and an afternoon to remember.

So we have been coming to sandy lane for 15 years and really love this hotel. It’s annoying as it has let itself down with terrible service at Bajan blue; mediocre housekeeping and ridiculous beach chair policy (the latter I have never seen anything like this system anywhere in the world!) Bajan blue: service is lacking at breakfast, lunch and dinner due to no waiters being assigned tables. As such you have no designated waiter for any meal meaning service is poor and you have to keep asking for drinks to be topped up. Plates are not cleared causing birds to swoop down on left over food. How hard can it be to assign waiters to tables and improve service? It’s disorganised chaos. Also the bar of Bajan blue is tiny for pre dinner drinks… guests were joking it’s the only place in barbados where we have to stand at the bar to have a drink as there are not enough seats. They really need to sort this out. Having said that L’acajou is the opposite- wonderful service with a beautiful bar and a designated server per table meaning the service of drinks/food are seamless. The housekeeping was a real disappointment- basic amenities in our room were not replenished daily- we had to call housekeeping to remind them. They don’t even give you shower gel - just shampoo/conditioner and bars of soap. Not exactly what you want when your paying $2k per night. Spa is nice but the relaxation room needs updated and it’s tiny. You only get water, tea and plantain crisps! Most spas of 5 star hotels have multiple options… nuts/mini muffins/juices/local produce and mood lighting; headphones with relaxing music etc. It wouldn’t take much to upgrade this. The shuttle to and from the golf course was also annoying- having to wait long times for it to arrive at the country club and the hotel… be warned if going for a tee time! Go to reception and be ready to wait 20mins on it arriving. Finally the beach chair policy is absolutely ridiculous- we know of no other hotel in the world that does this. Assigned seating … what a joke! SLane has to sort this policy out as all guests were complaining about it. Sandy lane offers a beautiful position on the west coast of the island but when it costs over $2k per night we expect the best service, amenities and attention to detail. If they could sort out the service issues at Bajan blue, stop the beach chair policy and improve housekeeping it would make for a much better experience.

We returned to SL again for the 18th consecutive year. It is and has been an ever improving experience. The standards improve every year. The service gets better. No doubt climate has adversely impacted on the beach but it remains stunning. A swim to the raft is special. The beach bar is atmospheric especially at sunset. No question it’s expensive but in 2023 it’s hard to find a comparable hotel anywhere. We will return again and again

The decor is amazing. The ambiance is great. Strong start, then they forget you. Tables next to us left with dirty dishes never removed for the rest of our dinner. Waited 35 minutes for dessert that was supposed to take 20. Expensive guess they don’t need me to return or recommend
