    An authentic high-end Bermudian experience
Our first time to Bermuda and Reefs Resort definitely set the bar high! We booked a king suite overlooking the ocean, great amenities in the room, private, quiet and beautiful. The staff was kind and helpful from check-in to check-out. We frequented their casual restaurant Coconuts daily for lunch and happy hour and the food and cocktails were consistently delicious. The location is about halfway down the island so you're right in the middle for all major sites and attractions. Hamilton is a short taxi ride away and Horshoe Bay along with a handful of private beaches are 5 minutes from the resort. We are usually the adventurous couple but we loved relaxing on the hotel's private beach surrounded by high cliffs and the gorgeous blue waters of Bermuda. They offer kayaks, paddle boards and snorkel gear which kept us busy throughout the afternoon. We would recommend booking a table on the beach at Coconuts way in advance. This was something we weren't aware of and we missed the opportunity to have a romantic dinner on the beach but made up for it with the other incredible restaurants on the bayside where the sunsets are incredible! We will absolutely be back.
Dear heatherwanderlust33, So very happy to read of your recent stay with us and love that you felt the authenticity of our property. We are family owned and operated, with my family running it for the last 50 years, but it is the amazing team we have that really makes it such an authentic and personal experience for our guests. It was great to see that you experienced so many aspects of the property, and hopefully on your next visit, we will get you to be able to enjoy the memorable beach dinner option - I am sorry that you weren't aware of it in advance, as it does book up quite quickly. But hopefully one of many reasons to return! Thank you! Sincerely, David Dodwell Jr General Manager

Great trip and stay at the "Bermudiful" Reefs Resort
Since it was our first visit to Bermuda, I carefully researched the island's parishes, as as well as the various accomodations. All that planning paid off, since we found the perfect place , the lovely Reefs Resort in beautiful Southampton. The location is perfect for those wanting to be away from the busier areas of the island yet close to bus transportation, which is a great way to see all the sites. The Reef's own private beach offers stunning views of the ocean and cliffs, but is also within walking distance of the pretty pink sand beaches of Horseshoe Bay and Church Bay and the lighthouse. From the moment we checked in at The Reefs, we felt pampered with steam towels and rum swizzles. The service was exceptional. Everyone was friendly and helpful, offering many personal gestures, not found in larger hotels. We especially liked that housekeeping checked in every evening, to make sure we had everything we needed for the night, and passed out chocolates and newsletters. There was also a guest welcome board in the lobby, daily bottled water, first night rum and ginger beer cocktail fixings and a complimentary weekly rum swizzle party. We enjoyed free use of on site beach equipment, lounge chairs, towels, kayaks , paddle boards, snorkeling gear,etc.. All of the rooms, the infinity edge pool and jacuzzi have ocean views. In addition the property has a peaceful outlook deck with chairs and tables and another area with hammocks to relax, watch and listen to the crashing waves against the rocks below. The Reefs building is charming, pretty in pink with painted murals and breathtaking vantage points. Our agenda for this trip was quite busy in order to see all this spectacular island offers. But when we return to The Reefs Resort in the future, we hope to further indulge in all the amenities available right on the grounds of this little piece of paradise, for an even more relaxing and rejuvenating vacation experience.

    Lovely “Old Bermuda” hotel
I knew as soon as I walked in I was in the right place! Cozy, unpretentious entry. Easy check-in with standard complimentary refreshing wet cloths and Rum Swizzles. Loved our spacious cliff side room. Beautiful beach and ocean view. Nice balcony. Furniture is a little worn. Nice updated bathroom. Called maintenance about sliding door stuck. Took care of it immediately. Noticed some places around resort could use freshening of paint. We enjoyed dining room, bar and lounge. Breakfast included was great. We used the bus system as much as possible because taxis are expensive. Extremely expensive. Enjoyed couples experience at the spa. Nice people working at spa. Nice spa salad lunch included. People were swimming but a bit cold for us in early March. Instead we used the complimentary kayaks available at the beach. Attendant pulls them to the water for you. Walked to nearby Gibbs Lighthouse and climbed to top for great view of the island. Other hotels have been updated to sleek modern decor, and are more pricey. That’s why I call this traditional “Old Bermuda.”The Reefs is an all-around wonderful place to stay!

We just came back from The Reefs and loved it! We stayed in a cliff side room and the view was incredible. The beach is beautiful with great snorkeling. We ate at the restaurants every morning and evening and the food was great. The staff is amazing and we loved our favorite waiter who greeted us by name. We rented a car and we didn’t pick it up for a day because we were so happy staying at the resort. We will definitely be back

Stayed for 4 nights and felt compelled to write a glowing report on the friendliness of the staff here. They go out of their way to ask how your day went without faux sincerity and for a mild cynic like me, I was bowled over by their warmth. Essentially, it’s refreshing to see employees happy like this. Keep smiling!

We definitely had one of the best views from our room. I highly recommend a room with a balcony view. All of the staff were friendly and helpful but Edwina was one of the best. She always remembered us, got us a table at Coconuts when they were fully booked and was always so very kind to us. The drinks from the bar were all delicious. The only problem was that the Coke machine stopped working. That was unfortunate since I have a huge addiction to Coca-Cola, lol. Other than that, it was fantastic! We will definitely be repeat customers!!

The Reefs is my favorite place in the world. My husband and I stayed there for our honeymoon in 1999. It was a dream honeymoon. Over the next 20 years, we were extremely busy buying our first home, raising three children, working, and then buying another home. We couldn't afford to return to The Reefs until our 20th wedding anniversary in 2019 and we vowed never to wait that long to return again. While we were there for our 20th anniversary, we tried to think of a special occasion to return. Our son's high school graduation would be happening in two years, so we started to plan. We wanted our children to experience this magical place. We returned to celebrate his high school graduation in 2021. My second born graduated this past June which gave us another excuse to come to The Reefs to celebrate! This was our 4th trip. We will continue to return to The Reefs for all of our upcoming anniversaries and graduations. We work so hard during the year and we are even busy when we go on other vacations. This is the one place where we truly relax. From the time you step foot in the lobby to check in and they hand you that rum swizzle, it is fun and relaxation from that point on. Every single person who works at The Reefs resort is friendly, professional and helpful. By the end of our week at The Reefs, we felt like family. We ate at Coconuts, Aqua Terra, and the beach barbecue. The breakfast that we had each morning was impressive with more food than you could ever possibly eat. Tea time at 4:00 was delightful! The food, service, and ambiance was better than we could have ever imagined. When we relaxed on the beach, the servers were attentive asking us if we wanted food and drink. Everyone who worked at the beach was extremely helpful making sure we had fresh towels, water, noodles for the ocean, snorkeling equipment, and our kayak. The beach is private and quiet. There is nothing better than having your own private beach to share with only the guests of the resort. We had an ocean view from our room that was breathtaking. I know I am forgetting some of the wonderful people who we met at The Reefs, but the following people made a big impression on us: Jermaine, Gayle, Christian, Jayda, Samantha, Lena Mae, Sunday, Elias, Lisa, Lesley, Eroland, and Kellee. I also have to give a shout out to our amazing driver, Chez. The Reefs is such a wonderful place that each time we are there, my husband and I try to figure out ways to become permanent residents of Bermuda. It is truly Heaven on Earth at The Reefs. Thank you all for a wonderful stay!

10 out of 10!! Location Beauty Service Dining Quality Very few kids No Jetskis No annoying music The dining views from Coconuts and Aqua Terra are wonderful! If there’s a downside…2 things Small pool Lots of stair climbing AND from NYC a short plane ride! I can’t see tolerating the travel haggle to see Hawaii. We have Hawaii East right here!!

We have visited Bermuda several times always staying at Elbow Beach. Since Elbow is now closed we looked to the Reefs to provide a similar experience since it has its own beach and multiple restaurants. I have only positive things to say about the reefs. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious, modern and well maintained, as are all the common areas of the facility. The ocean views from the rooms are incredible. Restaurants had excellent food and very good service. Buffet breakfast is included and has a great selection of foods. The beach is complete with chairs, umbrellas, towels and bar/food service. The Reefs exceeded our expectations and I highly recommend it for anyone visiting Bermuda.

We booked this girls’ getaway (myself and my 16 year old daughter) last minute before back to school craziness. We’ve been to Bermuda several times before (our family of 5 most recently stayed at the Hamilton Princess last summer). We chose to try The Reefs for this trip for its ease- beach right there, no shuttle necessary, restaurants on site. It did not disappoint- we absolutely loved it. When we travel as a family, we like to explore, have dinners in Hamilton, visit different beaches. But on this trip, my daughter and I opted to just relax and enjoy the resort. The resort itself (and our Cliffside room- stunning views) is clean, authentic to Bermuda, and very comfortable. Our bed was heavenly. The beach is large and spectacular with the clearest blue water and soft sand. Beach servers were prompt and courteous and food was delicious. All food was great- from the expansive breakfast buffet to the perfectly timed (sun makes us hungry) afternoon tea to our exquisite beach side dinner at Coconuts. We also enjoyed the casual vibe and fare at the Clubhouse. The staff here at The Reefs sets it apart- every single staff member was gracious, warm, and helpful. We had a snafu with our reserved room and had to move rooms- management was professional, apologetic and attentive and made it up to us! We will be returning to Bermuda next summer and won’t consider staying anywhere except The Reefs. Thank you. -Kathleen O’Brien

My wife, daughter and I just came back from The Reefs. Unfortunately, we had a disappointing experience. Some of our issues are not the hotels fault but many were. We arranged transfers with the hotel. On our way to the hotel from the airport, our driver was consistently texting while driving. Her phone was mounted so I could see what she was typing as well. “I’m so tired, my eyes are heavy” and worst of all “I have a kid with me who won’t shut up” (my daughter was very well behaved but excited to see a place she has never seen). We had a storm so it rained for three straight days. I understand this happens but there was nothing else to do at or near the hotel during bad weather days. The beach was flooded with seaweed during these days. Breakfast at the resort was very good but the restaurant Coconuts was expensive and the food/drinks were below average. Our martini and cosmopolitan were both served in margarita glasses for some reason as well. The beach service was understaffed and the drinks took a very long time. The pool service was non-existent so you’d have to walk upstairs and into the bar to get a drink in your bathing suit which rarely ever had a bartender. If you order a glass of wine, it comes in a plastic solo type cup. There was no entertainment throughout our stay as well. Even when we had a reservation elsewhere, we would stop in the bar to have a drink (5:30-6 PM) to find an empty bar (not just patrons but no bartender as well). When the bartender finally showed up, she was extremely inconvenienced by our request for a drink. The bar/dining area also has black mold coming out of the vents which you can see in the picture. Since we had our daughter with us, we planned on putting her to bed and enjoying a few drinks on our balcony. Unfortunately our balcony had no light at all on it so we did not sit out there. Finally upon our departure, we had a different taxi driver who was also texting while driving with my family in the car. But we did make it to the airport on time. Pro’s The beach was beautiful on the one nice day we had. Snorkeling around the reefs was an awesome experience with an abundance of wildlife (take some carbs from the buffet for the fishies) Dave the general manager was friendly and attentive and seemed to truly care about your experience. This was my first time in Bermuda, still debating whether I will ever be back.

Response from David Dodwell, General Manager at The Reefs Resort & Club
Responded Aug 14, 2023
Dear Brett J, Thank you very much for your feedback on your recent stay. I appreciated the opportunity to chat with you at check out regarding your taxi issue but of course was sorry to hear of the other items you described below, as they certainly aren’t the norm regarding a guest experience with us at The Reefs. As you mentioned, the weather certainly didn’t cooperate during your short stay with us, and we did encounter a much larger than normal amount of seaweed. While we do make best efforts to clean it up as quickly as possible, sometimes if it is very heavy, it can take a little longer. And the issue you pointed out with the ceiling was unfortunately a side effect of the rain. It has however already been fixed and repainted. I have also passed along your feedback regarding our beach and bar service to our team here to look into and do further training. While we normally get great reviews on our bartenders, clearly we missed the mark on your interactions. Our bartenders do take breaks typically around 5:30 before the dinner rush begins, but someone else should be covering the bar during that time. We also can’t give out glasses for any drinks going to the pool due to safety issues, so we have to use plastic cups in that scenario, but someone should have explained that. And we do have entertainment Thursday through Sunday nights during the season, but perhaps that might not have coincided with your dates possibly – our apologies for this. And I did meet with our front office team that oversee our taxi drivers. We are communicating with all drivers that we prebook that texting while driving isn’t a safe practice and will do everything we can to strongly discourage this. And we have met with the driver you highlighted to discuss their behavior during your transfer. Once again, I am saddened that you didn’t have the typically positive experience that the majority of our guests have during their stay with us. While I can understand your trepidation of returning, we do hope that you give us a second chance in the future, as I am confident the weather and our typically high level of service will be much better. Please feel free to reach out to me personally if so. Sincerely, David Dodwell Jr General Manager

This was my 4th visit to Bermuda and think The Reefs may have the best combo of amenities, location, accommodation and staff. Having direct access to a private beach without having to take a shuttle was well utilized during our trip. The resort had snorkel gear to rent as well and we took the opportunity a few mornings to swim around the area and saw quite a variety of fish. The rooms have been updated and we very much appreciated the mini AC splits that kept the rooms cool during the Bermuda heat! Coconuts had a great variety of well made food for the days we decided to stay put - but Hamilton and dockyard were easily accessible by taxi or by bus giving us more to explore than resorts located in St. George’s. I also found the fitness center well appointed for a smaller resort and was able to get my work out in every day. In terms of staff we found everyone friendly and accommodating, but special shoutouts to Ryan, Trae and Marvin who continued to go above and beyond during every interaction. We look forward to returning soon!
