Room 633 Check in was quick, however no help with luggage available. One bed suite was a good size and clean . The kitchen units were dire and the flooring has large gaps which allowed cockroaches to come in Freezer ruined our food as it did not get cold enough and when we went to use, the food was semi frozen so had to be thrown away. View from balcony was great , stunning views over to Hamilton. Bed was comfy, although had a nasty furry brown bed skirt with some suspect stains, bedding itself was very clean. The bedroom also had a large balcony but one had only two small chairs so not really used. Tv did not work, no batteries in the remote ! Bathroom was large but showing signs of age, appeared to have had a partial refurb with odd granite top around the sink and bath, plenty of towels and beach towels. The air conditioning was a major problem, there were two controls one in the bedroom and one in the lounge , for the first few nights the bedroom was very hot and we needed to leave the lounge door open to try and cool it. It then randomly worked and was generally freezing, guests are not able to control the temperature. It was not possible to turn off air con in the lounge, the switch was broken. If you moved it to off, it blasted out hot air! After several calls, reluctantly an engineer arrived and fixed something in the loft that enabled us to at least turn it off! A few days later the bedroom air stopped working and was making a horrendous banging noise. Again we reported this to front desk , when we came back at 4pm the message had not been passed to maintenance and no one had fixed. A lovely man came and looked but said it needed the engineer, but he had gone home! So we were left it broken again it was not fixed before we left. Smoking was also an issue, guest smoking on balconies above and next door meant for a miserable experience when trying to use our balcony. The absolute biggest disappointment for us getting the shuttle to the beach at Coco Beach, we followed the shuttle drivers directions and followed the wooden walkway to the beach, there were no loungers or parasols other than one old broken one, no beach service or restaurants available. We sat on the sand infront of the abandoned Elbow Beach hotel . The beach itself was pretty but it was shocking to see the huge amounts of plastic and rubbish scattered along beach. After speaking to front desk on our return, we were told, yeah they had some storm damage a few weeks ago, I guess they haven’t fixed it ! Asking about other options for beaches with loungers, we were told that Horseshoe Bay had facilities that would definitely be open, so we took a cab at $23 each way. On arrival we could see the concession was all locked up and no beds available nor anywhere to buy food or drink. Really disappointing that we had again been sent on a wildgoose chase by reception. The beach was stunning and we stayed for a swim . We ate in the Aurora restaurant ( well outside as we were still awaiting Covid tests and not allowed to leave the resort) Service was excellent, however having a seafood allergy the menu was extremely limited, the chef was kind enough to make me a caesor salad as there were no appetizers that did not have fish. Food was good but pricey. We preferred the food at the Blue restaurant which again was very pricey but good service. The Newstead ferry service was great for popping over to Hamilton but only runs before 11.20am and doesn’t home back to 5.20pm nothing in the afternoons or evenings. We used the Pink ferry , stop is next to the Newstead, but again the earliest ferry back after 11.30 am was 4pm and at last ferry at 7.20 p, The journey is literally 5 mins. Most of the staff were lovely, the housekeeper was a diamond ! However there is the one extremely rude and unhelpful lady on front desk that ruined our experience, she was the lady with cornrow hair and glasses who doesn’t wear a mask, for some reason she took a dislike to us and her distain was apparent. Representing front of house, we expect a courteous professional attitude, when checking out she did not even bother to ask if had enjoyed our stay. ( She was the staff member that sent us on the wildgoose chase and didn’t report the aircon faults) Her attitude is appalling, she appears to know very little about the hotel facilities or area, her attitude would prevent us from returning or recommending this hotel. Prior to arriving, we had enquired regarding late check out as our flight home was not to the evening, we were informed that for the additional 5 hours, the rate would be an eye watering $392 , this was more than the nightly rate for the room . Bearing in mind the hotel was extremely quiet we declined and decided to extend our stay at another hotel where we got a much better deal.

We rented a room and celebrated my friend’s bday. The place was cozy and room was neat and clean. But the security guard was disrespectful and unprofessional. He was shouting and threatened to kick all of us out because we were playing “loud” music. He should have reprimanded us calmly because after all it was his first approach. Unless he was already telling us several times but it was his first approach. If there was something wrong he should have informed us because we were willing to cooperate. He ruined the mood of everybody.

Had to spend an extra night in Bermuda after a cruise so booked at Newstead. Took full advantage of offerings as got a free round of golf in while room was readied. Room was spacious with spectacular view. Dinner at hotel restaurant was delightful but pricey as all things in Bermuda. Morning pool visit was terrific with views of the bay. Service was nice and helpful. Pool bar and food service was limited the day we stayed but got by fine. Good time

This hotel is still reeling from COVID and a variety of other issues. There was no food available when we arrived and had to quarantine at the hotel - not having any food accessible for people who cannot leave the hotel is absurd. Throughout the trip our key stopped working on a daily basis. One group was locked out and had to move rooms in the middle of the trip with no help or any sort of compensation because the electronic lock was broken on the room. The bar was open randomly at odd hours, often with no liquor options and we had to search for someone multiple times to just pour beer or wine. When we did have bar service, staff was freely complaining about making drinks. There were no clean pool towels available multiple times and we had to go looking for them so the front desk could hunt down pool towels. Additionally, the ferry to Hamilton broke or had no one there to drive it multiple times during our 6 day stay. Service at the hotel was minimal and not at all what Newstead promises. By far the most incredible misrepresentation of what this hotel has to offer is the connection to Elbow Beach and Coco Reef. Both beaches have been destroyed in storms and have been almost entirely abandoned. You have to hike across a hill and down rocks to access the beach and the sole open restaurant. there are a handful of umbrellas and chairs on the beach - or you can carry them down the side of the hill and set them up yourself! There was 0 service on the beach as advertised. Elbow Beach Hotel has been completely abandoned is literally crumbling as it stands. The advertising compared to the state of the beach is frankly fraudulent. Bermuda is beautiful, the people are lovely, and we had a great time. However what Newstead has to offer and what they’re promoting to guests are far from equal. I sadly would not advice anyone to stay here.

This is our 3rd stay at Newstead over the years. Getting to bda post covid was kind of a pain with our direct flight not available anymore and all the testing. But I get it. Bermuda is still the best island for us. And Newstead is still our top pick. We find the location to really be the best and the staff here is always helpful. We enjoyed the new pool bar set up. Sula the bartender is a passionate mixologist and made our time at the pool and bar quite fun. The sushi was the best I’ve had!!! Sasha was a wonderful and friendly server! Aurora was also exceptional for any meal. We love the view and the chef — Adam — made dining special. My only suggestions would be to keep the pool bar open! It is closed Sunday and Monday and the night we arrived on a Wednesday it was also closed. Why? There were plenty of customers. Also, aurora is pricey. Like, more so than anywhere else. We paid, no complaints, but it’s noticeable. Also, thinking a furniture upgrade should come soon for the rooms. This place is still our choice! The view, location w ferry , staff at front desk and restaurant, and a smaller feel. We will be back.
