A charming, historic boutique hotel set in a secluded section of 18th century Nelson's Dockyard, offering casual elegance and friendly, personal service, provides the perfect backdrop for relaxation, romance, special events and being active if you choose. The 32 rooms and suites are housed in 4 historic buildings on the waterfront and a headland 100 yards across the bay. The hotel offers a small non-swimming beach, spectacular infinity edged pool, a spa and two excellent open-air restaurants, Pillars and Boom. There is a complimentary boat shuttle to the swimming beach in Freeman's Bay and kayaks to explore the harbour. The perfect hotel for relaxing in peace and quiet or for finding plenty of activities (sailing, scuba diving, hiking, snorkeling, yoga) and fun (several restaurants and nightlife) only 5 - 10 minutes away. A great spot for honeymoons and weddings for 2 to 200.

Admiral’s Inn situated in Nelson’s Dockyard is a wonderful hotel with prime views overlooking Antigua’s truly iconic location. Rooms are stylishly decorated and give a real feeling for the era when the dockyard was at its peak. Lack of some amenities eg minibar, kettle was a little irritating - particularly as the local curfew made meals and refreshments more challenging. What lets this hotel down is the food. Breakfast was reminiscent of a basic south coast B&B - a menu presented on a scrappy laminated sheet offered restrictive options and the delivery was disappointing and poor value (tip: go to the Bakery in the dockyard for great pastries and sandwiches). The Caribbean dinner was more disappointing with a tasteless fried plantain (banana family) starter, a shrimp and rice main which had no inspiration and a basic fried banana desert - all for an expensive restaurant price tag it didn’t justify. We got the feeling that something is not quite right with the management of the hotel. This should be a 5 star establishment but it does fall short.

We were booked in for four nights at the tail end of a sailing holiday in March. Due to a BA flight cancellation we had to change our flights and cancel at only three days notice. Instead of claiming our 50% deposit, as they would have been entitled to do, Shama on reception told us we could use the deposit in the form of a voucher against a future stay. That is very decent. We then thought why not use the deposit there and then for a one night stay prior to our flight leaving Antigua the next day. The hotel agreed to this and we were so happy we had a chance to experience the fantastic hospitality. Every staff member we met could not have been more polite and helpful, from the folk on reception Shama, Montana and Patrick, Reggie the barman right up to Paul Deeth the owner. This really is an iconic hotel in the very best setting. Our room was in the old building and had a great view, the beds were very comfortable and the atmosphere just idyllic. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and then had lunch over at the Boom restaurant across the harbour by the pool the next day. Food was good and service excellent. Due to the effects of the Coronavirus the hotel was not busy and they let us have a late check out which enabled us to enjoy the pool, lunch and then back to the room for a shower before getting our taxi to the airport.
The hotel will obviously be suffering a loss of business due to the virus but the way they reacted towards us was truly remarkable. Thoroughly decent people.

Spent 3 nights at Admirals Inn and will be back for a longer stay next time in Antigua. The location was perfect for exploring English and Falmouth Harbour. When we made reservation only room available was in the main building. The room was on the top floor and was very charming. It has all you would need but for us, tall people from Wisconsin :), the room was tight. The ceiling is slanted on the top floor and the bed takes up most the room. If you are not planning on being in room much and don’t have much with you the room may be for you. The next day one of the gunpowder suites became available and we stayed there for two nights. Next time we will book directly with the hotel and call because they really are all about finding your perfect fit and you get a discount booking directly! The Gunpowder rooms are spacious and we had a great outdoor area looking out at the Harbour. Antigua was getting a little more rain than normal so we spent time on our open space enjoying coffee that was provided and had lunch from Boom while watching the rain. The location is perfect, short walk to restaurants, boat ride to Nelson’s dockyard and beaches. The Inn will also drive you back and forth no matter what time of the night. The boat back and forth, I believe, goes until 6pm. The walk though to the main building is 10 minutes at most. The pool was clean and warm. Plenty of chairs and umbrellas. Everyone that is a part of Admirals inn were amazing, always smiling and wanting to make our stay the best. The feel you get walking around the stone paths with the beautiful gardens is so relaxing. We highly recommend Admirals Inn and can’t wait to come back for a longer stay. Thank you.

At over £500 a night, room only, I struggled during the entire holiday to find what I was paying for. We booked entirely on the strengths of reviews.
Many of the facilities advertised on this site are non-existent. We had to cajole the staff to actually lift a finger to book the advertised facilities from third parties.(at extra cost, of course). In fact the staff could do with a course on service.
The Pillars as the breakfast option was truly abysmal. The staff were surly and ‘informed’ me that Vegans eat butter after they served me butter in my vegan breakfast ( I had informed them of my allergy to butter before I ordered) I was ill as a result.
Everywhere on the island serves fresh juice. Not here.
The views from the gunpowder suites are nothing to rave about, they felt a bit dark.
The jewel of this entire facility was Boom restaurant (and pool, approx 12m) which is open from 11-6. Amazing food and service. Incredibly careful with my diet. Delicious cocktails. It is however open to the public so be careful to make your reservation even as a hotel guest.
Zero information is provided about times/facilities/booking requirements for the hotel facilities/resources.
Overall we made the most of a poor facility by hanging out at Boom and the beautiful nearby Galleons Beach (the hotel boat will drop you there, beware of sea urchins. friendly turtles).

It really was a perfect place to stay in English Harbour. Having previously had great food as a visitor to Admirals Inn, we were able to enjoy the full experience as guests in the hotel. I’m not sure how it manages to make the whole operation work, but the staff are gifted in making everyone feel that they matter and requests are dealt with swiftly and well.
There are four different types of rooms- those in the main house, the ones in the attic upstairs, garden rooms and then others on the opposite side of the beautiful creek at the restaurant and poolside property of Boom.
We stayed in a main house room which we found clean and comfortable even if the shower was rather squashed for my tall husband. We were on the Hill side and it was fine, but when we return, I’ll ask for a
water side room.
The food is always well presented and delicious. It takes a bit of time but only because it’s freshly prepared. Eating next to the water with the gorgeous Mary Rose yacht moored nearby is a joy.
There was a large dinghy to take us over to the pool
where food is served. The boatman also dropped us at Galleon Beach.
The whole atmosphere is sophisticated, comfortable and inclusive. Thank you so much to everyone for making our New Year start so cheering.

I can’t comment too much on the hotel or facilities as had to leave very quickly. After being greeted and shown to our room (which was appreciated as it meant the Receptionist had to come via the dock boat) it showed great promise. It has an old world Admiral feel and although a bit nische, I rather liked it and had a gorgeous large bifold window overlooking the water.

The fridge was empty on arrival (and we were hot and thirsty) so that wasn’t ideal and my son was disappointed there wasn’t a tv (although this really doesn’t matter).

Our issue unfortunately lay with the room adjoined to ours with a locked folded wall/ door (this could be opened if you booked the rooms together I imagine) and with gaps along the floor. Straight away, we could hear the couple in the room coughing violently and discussing feeling unwell - a member of staff (cleaner/ housekeeper I presume) went to see them and they were speaking about keeping doors and windows shut and speaking of their illness. From the way they were speaking (which showed how thin the open wall was as we could hear every word) we got the impression immediately they were suffering from Covid and were isolating in their room.

With our return flight to the UK just 48 hours away, we were in no way going to risk that kind of exposure so immediately made the decision to leave unfortunately. Knowing housekeeping were soon due into our room also to set up a bed for my son, we didn’t want to risk any cross contamination.

This hotel seemed very sweet and would probably have been a lovely stay but the Covid issue as well as having to go back and forth on a dock boat between our room and the pool, restaurant, check in etc it did feel like a little bit hard work.

Can’t fault the few staff we came across though - very sweet and polite and it’s a shame we couldn’t stay the night.

Our arrival was lovely, greeted, offered a rum cocktail and led to our beautiful Gun Powder suite which overlooked the infinity pool and harbour.
The room was beautiful, large with a lovely large balcony.
We dined at the Pillar’s restaurant on our first evening, which was pleasant, but not outstanding.
The outdoor environment was wonderful.
Our bed was really comfortable, but our first and last night’s sleep were both ruined by an incredibly loud night club which cranked up the bass from 1am - 4am.
Our suite was on the end with windows looking towards the night club. I wouldn’t recommend booking room 4 until the owners and other local businesses do something about this terrible noise on Friday and Saturday nights! The pool is beautiful and I enjoyed it to myself each morning before breakfast, but in the afternoons it is overrun with people who come to the pool restaurant for lunch and then stay around the pool.
Pool staff were great, as was the food at Boom, but the day guests spoilt the experience.
The management needs to think about the quality of the experience they are offering, considering the price for a room only holiday.
The manager on the Gun Powder side was helpful regarding restaurant bookings and beach suggestions.

Response from Admirals Inn and Gunpowder Suites, Owner at The Admiral's Inn
Responded Feb 22, 2022
Dear Nicolai We are delighted that overall you were very happy with your stay. We are working with National Parks who control the area to try to get a noise restriction in place to reduce the volume of the bass and music on Friday and Saturday nights. Regarding Boom we have put in place a high season policy which only allows non hotel guests who buy a day pass to use the pool and sun loungers and we restrict the number to 10 day passes when the hotel is full so we are a bit perplexed as to your experience with the pool in the afternoon. Perhaps some of the hotel guests from the Admirals Inn side of the property were confused for day guests. We look forward to welcoming you back for a future stay. Sunny Regards Admirals Inn & Gunpowder Suites Team

Large bedroom with comfortable kingsize bed. Bathroom rather small but clean. Bar and lounge spacious. The Pillar restaurant is excellent and eating next to the water with the nice sailing ships around and the historical port is very special. The service of the dingy taking us to the beach or pool was very efficient. Also the Boom restaurant next to the pool excellent. Next time we will stay at Gunpowder Suites which have nice view and very special ambiance.

We only stayed one night, having holidayed on another island and wanted to guarantee that we didn’t miss our BA flight back to the UK.
So glad we chose this place! We had one of their Gunpowder Suites which overlooked the Boom Restaurant, Pool, waterway and the Admiral’s Inn across the way. Such a lovely place to sit in the morning and watch the birds and everyone coming and going.
We ate at Pillars the first night and there was more than one vegetarian option on the menu, which is always a bonus. It was a beautiful setting by the water and service was great.
Breakfast wasn’t so brilliant - being a vegetarian, it would have been a struggle to come up with anything other than the one “Healthy Breakfast”, which was Muesli, plain yoghurt and fruit. It was OK, but not sure I would want it every day for a week!
We couldn’t get a late check-out, but we could leave our bags in the lounge area on the Gunpowder Suites side and after we’d had a very lovely lunch at Boom, we reluctantly returned and were given a little room by the laundry to shower and change. A taxi had been arranged to collect us and off we went.
Everyone was so very accommodating. Our room was also very comfortable. I was particularly pleased that water was provided in a filtered jug, thus doing away with plastic waste.
I was also amazed to find just outside the hotel, that there were so many shops, bars, restaurants, museums, boats and all sorts going on, but you would never know it within the hotel - it was like a little Caribbean oasis of its own.
We will definitely be back!

Wow what a place this is.

Set out in Nelson's Dockyard it's full of history.
We stayed in the Admirals Inn with the Gunpowder suites located across the water. The building we stayed in was Nelson's pitch and turpentine store. Cleverly converted into hotel rooms, don't expect large rooms but expect originality and plenty of character. Whilst we were there things were just starting to open up again. Breakfast was served at the Gunpowder suites with a lovely water taxi ride across, piloted by Paul the owner who is a mine of local knowledge.
The place is a 10 minute walk to bars and shops and Falmouth harbour. Also the number 17 bus stops right outside the hotel which takes you to St Johns, the capital.
A special mention goes to all the staff here. They were so welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble and they all became our friends!!

Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

Mel Levick.

Yes we have hammocks and sun loungers on the beach but we don't encourage swimming. We also have an infinity edged pool with great views and daybeds and sun loungers. We run a complimentary boat to Galleon Beach which is 5 minutes away and we provide complimentary snorkel gear, kayaks and paddle boards if you want to make your own way there.
