This is the second time I have stayed at this campground and this time we were on the south tent beach front side. Our view was stunning looking into the dunes and lagoon. Check-in was straight forward and we had friends turning up at different times.
Plenty of facilities with a kitchen and fridge, bbq, toilets, shower and also outdoor shower. For a hot shower you need coins.
The kitchen could have been kept cleaner but this was really down to ensuring campers cleaned down after themselves. I noticed a couple of the toilets had run out of loo roll so possibly had not been checked that morning even though I saw it had been cleaned.
The campground is also in a great location, we walked down the beach to the town in about 20 minutes. The surf beach is not even a 5 minute drive away.
All in all we had an amazing and relaxing stay and we will go back again!

This lovely holiday park is only a few minutes drive from the town centre.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
We stayed in our motorhome on a powered site, and the sites are a good size, with lovely views beside the estuary.
We stayed on the north side and used the bathroom facilities. They are kept clean and fresh, modern and have piped music.
There is a code to enter the bathrooms so only campers can use them. The ladies had 4 toilets, 4 showers and 4 basins.
We used the north kitchen for washing dishes. Detergent, cloths and brushes are supplied. It has 2 large fridges and 2 microwaves available and also 2 cooktops.
There are laundry facilities as well, but we didn't use them.

Past the fence on the south side there is a food van most days with a delicious and healthy menu.

We stayed at the beachfront spot, which was incredible!! The woman’s bathroom was very nicely renovated, it was actually the nicest from all 4 holiday parks that we stayed at. I’m not crazy about the coin-operated hot water shower tho, i mean… it’s 2024, i don’t mind having a higher price for the night that comes with the hot shower (without needing to put the coins in). Literally no one carries cash on themselves anymore.. (Or we could pay for the hot shower with Eftpos machine if possible. heheh)

I stayed two nights in the northern section of the Campground after booking a few days prior online. This section was a little less popular than the southern area, but I enjoyed a slightly better view out to the Heads with even a glimpse of open ocean!!. Most of the camp is limited to views across the river estuary to the sandhills wildlife sanctuary. Internal camp ground facilities could not be faulted in any way in my opinion. They were immaculate.
There is a 4 Square in the town centre about 1.5 km away from the campground which is very well stocked for any re-supply needs. There are also numerous eateries in the town centre but I did not take note of what their opening hours might be in the off-season.
I would highly recommend the famous Coastal Walk (provided you are reasonably fit and have suitable shoes if doing the rocky coast section). I arrived at the Beach (an easy 1.2 km walk from the campground) about 2 hours AFTER high tide and was thereby able to walk along the rocky coastline for the full 3.5 km to the natural rock arch – a superb walk. I returned along the cliff-top track. The stairs at either end of the cliff top track section are many in number, but once up to the height of the cliff track, the track is quite easy going, and about 3 km in length. I would also recommend the Mangawhai Museum. Be sure to sit and watch the “Big Dig” film in the museum theatre if you visit.

I came up here for work, and I was super surprised at this cabin for one. It was slightly apart from the rest of the cabins, which made for great sleeping. The room had a TV (not that I used), a fridge, and cups, plates, cleaning gear, pots and pans. Amazing value.

The park is easy to access and position caravan with a position very near to the estuary beach. Showers and toilets are new and very clean and well looked after. The dump station is easily the best and most hygienic I have come across to date. Fabulous walks and as caravanners such as us we found an excellent walk that took as to the Pizza restaurant in the nearby shopping precinct. We will be back.

After a hectic year we agreed it was time for me to take a little sanity break.
Booked online for 4 days of peace and quite, whcih is what I got. So much so that I extended twice to take advantage of some rare alone time
Beatiful surroundings, well maintained grounds and just a short walk, literally, to the beach.
Don't be surprised or offended if you stumble across a few nudists on the beach!
Although in a fully compliant caravan and not requiring the, showers and loos are available. Clean water available for your vehicle tanks.
Amazing nights skies...
I look forward to my next stay in paradise down the road.

The cabin we stayed in was a fairly new build, so it was well put together with good amenities for cooking and storage. Very compact small bathroom but had what we needed with very good water pressure in the shower. Overall it was very clean and tidy. Nice bed linen and good pillows. Very close to the estuary beach with a very short level walk across the grass to the waters edge and not too far from the ocean beach (less than a 5 min drive).

Most of the facilities are sites, either with power or unpower sites, though this HP also has a few cabin and room for family. The location is just perfect, next to the beautiful waterfront, very calming water in a kind of lagoon and not exposed to the open sea. Shared bathroom facilities are pristine clean, with one dollar coin for 7 minutes shower. Clean and modern shared kitchen with fridges and BBQ. however you need to bring your own kitchen stuff, no mug or plate as well as no spoon, fork and knife, and the outdoor dining tables with sea view. Just ideal if you happy with open spacious space, either with camper van or tents.
