We enjoyed our stay Balneario Davila at Caldas de Reis. The thermal outdoor was exactly what these pilgrims needed. The room and hotel was spacious and a feeling of yesteryear. The breakfast was continental and enough food for everyone. The reception staff spoke perfect English and were friendly and helpful.

We booked this hotel as they advertised a mineral pool and spa - which are closed. Huge disappointment. If you are seeking a room with air conditioning, look elsewhere. On the positive side, the beds are comfortable, the room is clean, the towels are fluffy, and the location is fantastic. There are two places to soak your feet in mineral water just outside the door.

We have been walking for a month now and went for a bit of luxury with the end in sight. The check in took forever but we finally got to our well appointed rooms. This is when things went downhill. The wifi didn't work, no problem, but when we went to say something all we were told was that hers (the receptionists did). Off to sleep in very comfortable beds but then at around midnight we were disturbed by a very soft electronic noise. At first we thought it was our phones vibrating on silent, but of course the wifi never worked, so then we turned everything off but the noise kept up all night. Then at breakfast the waitress was very cranky and short with us, again leaving us thinking of Fawlty Towers.

This is a beautiful little gem of a hotel. The rooms are very old style but the beds are comfortable and the hotel had kept its historical charms. The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. Hotel was clean and beautiful. The breakfast was simple and probably not worth the extra cost. There nice restaurants nearby, try by the river. That said, I recommend this hotel, a great place to stay.

This hotel was fully booked for the nights I wanted to stay but I did book myself in for a leg massage. All bookings are made with the hotel reception and the man there spoke excellent English and was more than helpful. The hotel is like something from an Agatha Christie novel and is quite charming in its faded elegance. The spa area is all white with bathing areas and cell (massage) room doors. What I would imagine a prison block in heaven to look like. The girl doing the massage new her job, as she honed in on the extra achy bits of my legs and gave that a little more attention. I only booked a 20 minute leg massage but was given 30 minutes and my legs felt the benefit. At €17.00 this was a real bargain.
