The Vidago Palace hotel stood up to its reputation! Amazing! My wife and I stayed there 3 nights, perfect for a restful, very high quality stay! The staff are very welcoming, the food is truly excellent and the architecture of the Hotel breathtaking! Even during the covid crisis the Vidago Palace and it’s team masters the restrictions/requirements with an elegant and respectful way! If you have the opportunity you must dine at the Hotel’s Grand Ballroom Salão Nobre restaurant with live piano entertainment on Friday’s and Saturday’s! The food is amazing! The chefs go to very great lengths to find wonderful menus with delicious tasteful dishes! Clearly worth a detour! Enjoy the wonderful sights, sents, 18 hole Golf Course and service in this Grand Hotel!

On august 28th 2020 we decided to end our vacation at Vidago Palace, willing to find great service and better rest. Apart from the staff's kindness, nothing else is to reccomend: - Junior Suite 110 with several maintenance issues (inadmissible in a 5* hotel, paying 525€/night) - Having booked (as per Reception's request) breakfast for 10h45 upon checkin, at 09h50 the Housekeeing team was already jumping into our room (lovely) - Breakfast was a terrible experince every step of the way: poor quality of products, poor selection of bread/pastry/charcuterie/cheese/jams... no freshly squeezed orange juice, pre-cooked eggs of all sort that were presented in plastic trays and served cold (what else to wish for?) Having initially booked the Junior Suite for two nights we decided to check-out at 12h after the first night since it was a nightmare to even think of the 2nd one. We called Reception, we advised on what we were doing, we suggested to keep the 2nd night's amount as credit for better days of the hotel - but we didn't push and we mentioned that we would leave anyway. The only answer we had to everything reported to them was that their cancellation policy is not to grant anything in this situation - which led us to wonder about what it is that actually makes them take action on Clients... No management around, just a shallow 'See you next time!' - well, maybe not. Having asked for the Director's e-mail, the best shot was the Head of Reception's email who, 6 days after having received our email with this report didn't even bother to write us back - so much for the 5* service. And well, after waiting for an answer and without any sign of interest from Vidago's Management Team, we decided to provide a public service by preventing other Clients from having this experince at this lovely place that once shone. Good luck Vidago Palace.

Vidago Palace Hotel is a place to be if someone looks for quiet, space, palace feeling and exclusivity. Common areas and rooms takes you to the high class of and the mundane life of the 19th century. The bed rooms are with the right amenities and are comfortable and peacefully. The restaurant has an international food quality and a film ambiance. The swimming pool and the exterior service are fine. The landscape is great integrates you in a valley with mountains on the back that invite walks. There is a golf course, which is not my sport, that looks green and well maintained.

We enjoyed 3 wonderful days in the beginning of March in this outstanding hotel. Location: small village on the countryside 20-25 from next cities. Park: wonderful pond and large park with old trees. Several drinking fountains where one is offered one small cup of the medicinal local water. A must! The water is extremely rich! Common areas: stunning! Absolutely gorgeous wallpapers, decoration, high ceilings and spacious rooms! The grand dining hall is a dream, so is the breakfast hall in which an absolutely dreamlike buffet is available. The fresh juices, the fresh fruit, nicely cut, the vegan hot choices, gluten free bread, seeds, homemade jam and vegan coffees made this breakfast perfect for us! Plus there is prosecco ;) One should plan at least an hour to enjoy this breakfast experience. Room: We had a parkside room on the 2nd floor w a tiny balcony. It was just perfect. Nothing to complain there either. It was a basic room, not too big, but really nicely decorated with all the comfort, in perfect state with a wonderful shower! The shower products were not to our liking. Unlike the great natural products they had in the spa, the beautifully packages products in the bathroom where not natural and felt and smelt not that nice. Spa: The spa is very well done, big and clean. The locker rooms and world-class, you get flip flops, a robe and 2 towels normally. On the other hand it is not well designed. It feels a bit sterile and boring. The outside pool and area was not open, but looked tempting. The only downside was the lady on the last day, that kind of pushed us out when the closing our came. I left the spa at 20.01 and me and my girlfriend considered her behaviour not adequate for such a place. Dinner: you must dine here at least once! On Friday there was a pianist which we appreciated a lot. The hall is fantastic. The service, the wine, salad and sorbet were delight full. Unfortunately the ordered vegan dishes had some butter and cheese in them... For the last night we asked for different dishes, this time fully vegan. We got an oriental noodle dish, which was nicely presented and fresh, but boring in taste. We very disappointed with the dish, but the overall experience was still excellent! We really want to come back to this place, given the chef can step up his game in vegan cooking ;) If those minor details can be fixed in the future, this hotel will be perfect. Most employees were amazing! Especially the ladies from the breakfast and the concierges(not reception), the barman that recommended the tastiest beer and port wine for me and the people in the restaurant, and also very much the lady in the drinking fountain. Price-wise we got a fantastic deal ;) It was so good that I didn't mind to get a little ripped of by the prices of the bottle of organic wine and the glass 0f 20years old port wine....

This hotel is just lovely - the rooms, the staff, the food, all in a beautiful parkland setting. On a half board package deal we were treated exactly like the other guests, with respect and affection. The little town has friendly locals and some peaceful walks in the glorious countryside. We even ventured to Chaves on the local bus, a pretty little town on the river. The pool and outdoor jacuzzi were a bonus (despite the need for swimming hats!). There were just enough guests to give the hotel a gentle vibe, without the usual jostling for tables and service). Thank you, Vidago.
