Perfectly placed studios and flats at the pier in Man O War Bay. 20 min walk to Pirate’s Bay - one of the most beautiful and least visited in Caribbean Sea. We stayed in a well maintained studio with use of outside front seating. Everything worked well. Supermarket for everyday food and drinks in neighbour house. Wifi ok. Beverly attended us well. Charlotteville is a lovely and quiet fishing village with just a few tourists.

The Cholson Chalets and the romantic fishing village of Charlotteville are sound, movement, and creativity personified; you can't quite separate the magnetism of one from the other. As I write this review, I'm sitting on the balcony of the Honeymoon Suite overlooking Bay Street and the ocean, just five steps away. It's a rainy, grey day and it's still beautiful! Here, the lullaby of waves and the living sounds, sights, and scents of the fishing village, which include everything from fishing boats and pelicans sputtering about the Man of War Bay to the sounds of live music and food preparation effervescing from neighborhood bars and kitchens, punctuate your days and nights with delightful diversions.
But the sensory pleasures don't end there. If you were to cross to the other side of Bay Street and face the Cholson Chalets, you are greeted by a riot of green dappled with vivid color! The mountains, home to the Main Ridge Rainforest reserve, the oldest reserve of its kind in the world, rise stately behind the Chalets, their verdant slopes dotted by homes of every color and style. The garden of the Chalets mirrors this kaleidoscopic display with potted plants and garden troughs spilling with succulents, patterned crotons, and brilliant flowers.
And these visual pleasures from the fishing village, mountains, and gardens continue with the Cholson Chalets' suites themselves! From the charming white of the buildings, green moldings, and accent walls that complement the natural surroundings, to stained wooden floors and vintage ornamental fretwork, the Cholson Chalets are, all at once, reminiscent of an old railway station, prairie house, and your grandparents' home.
Inside, the thoughtful touches further the feeling that you belong here — and that this is HOME. The freshly picked floral arrangements, local artwork, chandeliers that cast warm candlelit glows, and antique wooden furnishings paired with modern appliances are the backdrop to breezy living spaces that marry the comfort of home with the adventure of being transported to another time where everyday feels like the weekend.
The Cholson Chalets truly embody the essence of the statement "home away from home." Whether you stay indoors for quiet days of reading, writing, painting, or some other creative activity or indulge in one of the curated activities ranging from sightseeing and bird watching to deep sea diving and boat tours, there is always some sound and movement to keep you entertained and enlivened. The Chalets are the perfect place for creativity, clarity, presence, and renewal. Each vintage suite is prepared with love and falling in love with the space, the people, the village, and yourself are a guarantee after your stay here. Come to the Cholson Chalets and return home.

It was beautiful. The bar, minimart, lottobooth, food, everything was just close by so it was beautiful and convenient. It's somewhere you would go if it's just about relaxing and going on adventures in that area. There is a beach called pirates bay where you take a little boat to go out and the beach is gorgeous. We loved it. The drive from the town to the village is about 1hour and 15minutes so like I said it's mainly for relaxing. The place was clean, the kitchen fully equipped and it was quiet. The only issue we really had was that the bedrooms should have had AC and the drive was really really long and we didn't know because someone else had booked it for us. Overall we would definitely go back again.

A quick trip and stay to visit Pirates Bay and explore Charlotteville. A friendly manager who advised on how to reach the beaches by boat and lovely traditional accommodation. Amazing beach front location. We would visit again for longer.

Cholson Chalets lies in front of à very busy street. The wooden house has thin walls and windows that do not close: in your room, you can hear all that the neighbours of the other areas say and do!
And, as we expérienced, if the neighbour above you, is a drunkerd who spends his days shouting/moving furniture around, your stay can become a nightmare: the owner, called Penny, did not much to help us; she said ' I am not à psychologist and your neighbour is a paying guest'.

The 1st floor appartment we rented for 3 nights at the Cholson Chalets in Charlotteville was the best value for money accommodation we had during our travels around Tobago.
A lovely wooden seafont building, capitalising on all the best features of the property i.e. polished floorboards, period furniture, bedroom and balcony overlooking the sea etc.
All rooms spacious, exceptionally clean, a well equipped kitchen, and excellent staff made this an excellent stay in beautiful Charlotteville

We spent 7 nights at Cholson Chalet and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The accommodations are quaint, charming and comfortable....and serve as a perfect setting in this quiet fishing village. You can get the feel of the entire town while sitting out on the balcony and watching the activities unfold during the day. We had an upper unit with ocean view, and it was lovely!
The kitchen is adequately stocked with dishes, cookware, utensils, coffee pot, toaster, water kettle, etc. The fridge/freezer worked great! We thoroughly enjoyed cooking our dinners most evenings while sipping on rum and cokes and/or ice cold Carib beers. If you are a foody, you might want to bring some of your own favorite spices, coffee, seasonings, etc.
The bedding is comfortable and clean, and there is plenty of storage space to hang clothing in each of the bedrooms. We slept with the windows open every evening and eventually became accustomed to the sound of the waves every day/night. We didn't have any street noise, perhaps because of the time of year (early March).
There is a "TV" room with cable which we rarely watched, but it worked just fine. The bathroom included a nice large shower with perfectly great hot water and pressure. The plumbing was perfect as well (unlike some of the other islands we have visited). Water is drinkable and tastes fine. We didn't bother to buy bottled water (beer serves that purpose after 4 pm, right?).
There is a convenience store right next door that offers a nice variety of supplies such as rice, juice, milk, sauces, seasonings, etc. In addition, there are several fruit stands with fresh fruit such as bananas, pineapple, mango...and some veggies as well. There are also several tiny little shops that offer various staples, so I tried to "support" them as well during our visit.
We were not bothered at all with bugs...and trust me, I am a bug magnet. This is the first island vacation that I haven't been affected (and infected) with bug bites. I suspect the bugs might be "seasonal" depending on rainfall.
There is a clothesline for for hanging out clothes/swimwear/dive suits, etc, which is very handy. Our apartment also had a line on the entry "porch", so that was also convenient.
Charlotteville is a fairly quiet fishing village that seems content to do business as it has always been done. The town doesn't cater to tourists (fine with me), and many businesses are closed on weekends (including restaurants), so plan your meals and activities knowing what the weekend schedule does or doesn't offer. We traveled there with the plan of diving 6 days, and we were not disappointed. The diving was fantastic, and we were happy to return to our "home" after a good day of diving out of Speyside (about 10 minute drive up and over to the other side).
Watching the local fishermen clean/sell fish is quite entertaining, but please note, they do not like to have their pictures taken. I asked nicely and was firmly told "no" each time...I am not sure why, other than perhaps they want to keep their fishing village a secret. I was disappointed, as the bantering, chattering, shouting, and laughter was truly marvelous to watch, and I would have enjoyed sharing those pictures with my family at home.
Pirates Bay is a nice little hike, and it is beautiful. Cholson Chalet is situated near the start of the the walk to the bay and it is well marked. There is a little fruit stand there that sells juice, fruit etc, so take along a few bucks to support the local economy. The beach is quiet and peaceful..well worth the 15 minute walk.
There are plenty of little places to grab a bite to eat for lunch/dinner...or to buy a cheap beer, and there are several choices for more traditional dining (except on weekends). We enjoyed "Sharon's" which is outdoor seating on the upper level of a B&B as well as the "Suckhole"...which is a beach bar serving up large portions for lunch (they usually closed around 4 pm, and were not open on Sunday). The fish and chips and stewed chicken were excellent! We made our own simple breakfast of eggs/toast, as there did not appear to be any businesses open for breakfast (and there certainly were not any coffee shops...good for them!!)
We hired a cab at the airport for getting to Charlotteville...the cost was $65 US plus tip. We made arrangements through our newly made "local" friend to have one of his friends drive us back to the airport...giving us a bit of a tour and pointing out the sites of the island. The cost was $85 plus tip, which we thought was very reasonable. Cholson Chalet can also assist you with airport transfers.
Cholson Chalet was perfect for our vacation, and I recommend this spot for couples, friends, or small families who are looking for safe, comfy, and unique accommodations for enjoying this special area.

The Cholson Chalets are two buildings with a central courtyard and back garden, located right on the ocean (on a stormy night, the ocean lapped at the front gate!). We spent four days in an upper apartment. Despite the heat, the apartment was cooled by sea breezes and we were never uncomfortable. The sounds of the waves on the shore were our constant companion.
There is an office which is staffed during the day where any issues can be addressed. The garden has fruit trees which are available to guests (I had never eaten a banana straight off a tree before!).
The apartment we stayed in was very comfortable, with an open area overlooking the view, a dining area, and a reasonably equipped kitchen. There was a television with local and a few international channels, including to my surprise, the CBC (Canadian TV!). There were three bedrooms-- we used one to sleep, and had a "dressing room" each! Important to ask the staff for mosquito netting-- my husband let his foot hang out one night and was ravaged.
Charlotteville itself is a sleepy fishing village. Provisions are not great--just a few small village shops-- so better to stock up on your way from the airport. There are often opportunities to buy fresh caught fish in the morning. Several different stands and restaurant shacks line the main road. We loved eating vegetarian roti from one particular stand and returned several times. Mostly we ate breakfast and organized snacks on our own, and ate out for other meals.
Our visit coincided with a period of rough seas (unfortunately). That made the Charlotteville and the lovely Pirate's Bay beaches unswimmable. But we did find that the beach at the Blue Waters Inn at Speyside was sheltered and calm, so we still got our swims in! Travelling between Charlotteville and Speyside required taxis-- we found the bus service completely unreliable and not worth the frustration on holiday.
Lots to do in the area including scuba, snorkeling, and kayaking. The locals were friendly and helpful. Food was not cheap, but tasty.
Overall, a wonderful experience. If we were to plan our trip again, we would drop the Trinidad portion and spend the whole time in Tobago!

My best friend, son and I stayed for two fabulous restful weeks at Cholson Chalets. It was delightful. We arrived at 10:00p.m at the airport and were able to contact the manager by phone to give the airport taxi the directions. Courteous, friendly and helpful all the way describes our experience from then on. We were lulled to sleep by the waves breaking gently on the beach across the street. Next morning and every morning after that we awoke opened the door and were greeted with the most spectacular scene. This is what beachfront is all about... My three year old son and I would begin each morning by crossing the street and jumping unto the sand to feed the birds the remains of breakfast and then a swim in the bay.
My best friend would open the front door and sit looking at us, while taking in the locals slow and easy gait. It relaxed us to see people so relaxed and unhurried going about daily life in a fishing village. We highly recommend the "Tobago Eskimo"- a flavoured ice cool costing TT$1.00 at the grocery two doors down. At midday you'll love it after a cooling swim...
Fresh fish comes literally to your door as the jetty is on the right of the property and fishing boats can be seen coming home. Fresh vegetables and fruit are sold next to the grocery by Keino at his stall. The visitor's/ tourist information centre is chucked full of information on tours ; birdwatching, scuba diving, turtle watching etc. Public transport is available at the bus stop a two minute walk away every two hours. Taxi service available upon request from the office or outside the visitor's/tourist information centre.
The level of service was very good, the ladies provided clean sheets, they washed dishes, swept floors, made beds and cleaned bathrooms. There is also an inexpensive laundry service onsite. When you leave a mess you return to a pristine place. The ladies do not remain all day, but in their hours onsite they do good work...and then some. If you venture into the back yard; mangoes, bananas, guavas and seasonings are yours for the taking. We had several ripe fruits during our stay. Go to the fish depot or wait for the fishermen to arrive on the beach so you can buy out of the boat...either way you'll be happy with the freshness of the catch and the size of your portions. The depot provides cleaning and cutting with purchase.
There is cable t.v. and free fruit on the beach front trees higher up the street. There are several local characters; Fussy was our favourite. We encountered several nationalities while at Cholson Chalets; French, English, Scottish, American and Germans in the first week.
Charlotteville is a real gem of a village where people look out for each other. Where shrimp and fries with a beer can be had around the corner from the gas station. Where the businesses are run by the owners, therefore pride in service and product is always present.
Do go there it is not as bustling and busy as Scarborough but that's what makes it special and unique.
