We booked Los Castaños for our first night in Spain as a treat, something special and a little indulgent. Our expectations were met and exceeded. It felt as much like a home as it did a hotel. We were both well looked after and also encouraged to make ourselves at home. The food is thoughtfully put together and skilfully prepared,... More

A stylish small hotel tucked away in the hills close to Ronda and not far away from the coast. This is a must stay if you are looking for a peaceful Spanish village. Great hosts with knowledge of the local area if interested in walks and scenery. We really loved it. Ps you must try the chocolate brownies!

Lovely welcome from Di and John and such a relaxing place to stay. Beautifully renovated and full of colour and light. Sitting on the patio looking at the stunning views of the Alta Genal whilst sipping a large g and t and looking forward to a delicious home cooked meal, I thought I will definitely be returning! Cartajima is a... More

This is a beautiful authentic Spanish village in a lovely peaceful location. We had a lovely room with well equipped bathroom and a little balcony perfect for watching the sun come up over the mountains in the mornings with a cup of tea or the locals playing cards in the square in the evenings. We loved this little hotel because... More

Stunning location, excellent and interesting hosts who know how to make your stay enjoyable, delicious food, beautiful country-side and rooms. Di and John both make the place very welcoming and they were both very helpful, offering suggestions for places to eat and for local walks. Di is clearly also a great cook!

I'm not sure I can add anything new to the other reviews. Perfect location, characterful rooms with balcony and mountain views, books, sketch pads, fridge, tea and coffee making facility, wine, local olive oil based toiletries which are fantastic, a basin each, bathrobes, the list goes on. On top of this, dinner in a comfortable lounge and dining room with... More

We spent a Saturday night in this lovely hotel situated in the centre of a completely unspoiled Spanish pueblo, 20 minutes drive from the spectacular town of Ronda. We had a beautiful room with magnificent views across the village to the thousands of chestnut trees that grow in the vales around Cartajima. Our hosts were most welcoming, books abound everywhere... A beautiful quiet area of the beaten track. Lovely location, comfortable room. Gorgeous decor. Food choices are limited so come prepared. Roof terrace ideal for catching the sun. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Just six kilometres off the tourist trail to Ronda is a valley with stunning mountain scenery and eagles soaring overhead. You are heading for Cartajima, one of the most traditional of the famous Andalucian pueblos blancos, white mountain villages. Following our driving directions, you arrive outside the great chestnut doors of Los Castanos behind which there is quality accommodation, personal, informal atmosphere, local wines and great home-cooked food. Relax in your spacious bedroom with its enormous bed, soft sheets and fantastic mountain views. Stretch out on a lounger on the rooftop terrace, savor your wine and melt into the mountains. This must be the most perfect getaway, a totally indulgent mountain village hotel in a completely unexpected location. ... more   less
