Spent the most fabulous week here between Christmas and New Year. A wonderful blend of friendly and knowledgeable hosts, comfortable and spotless hotel and amazing views and sunlight. Di´s outstanding cooking and John’s humour made this the perfect stay. We will be definitely be back.

From the moment you turn off the main Ronda-San Pedro de Alcantara road, you know you're in for something special! We spent a very happy 3 nights over Christmas at Los Castaños and we were extremely well looked after by hosts Di and John. The hotel is a stunning large village house, and our room (No. 3) had spectacular views across the valley and distant peaks. Too late for the autumn colours, we still loved the smell of woodsmoke in the air as the local farmers set small bonfires to clear the cuttings. The hotel was warm and cosy: a log fire greeted us every day in the ground floor snug, and our room was heated very well by radiators and a hot blower. The beds are very comfortable and the room had everything we could hope for, including a small festive gift of local almond cake, a bowl of walnuts, tea and coffee making paraphernalia, a safe, and a fridge, stocked with beer, wine and water. We had a small balcony on which to enjoy the winter sun, and there is also spacious roof terrace complete with water fountain, from which we had a home made mince pie and mulled wine on our arrival. If you are looking for an oasis of calm and comfort, off the beaten track, we cannot recommend Los Castaños enough!

Los Castaños is one of a kind! Peaceful, beautiful mountain scenery and the best hosts. Definitely try the three course dinner! We loved hanging out in the living room with the cozy fireplace. The entire house is gorgeous.

What a gem! I spent five nights at Los Castanos on a solo trip hiking the local area and visiting Ronda. I felt very safe as a solo female traveller and the hosts were amazing - very friendly and accommodating, with so much local knowledge. Di’s cooking is incredible (I’ve stolen some ideas to try and recreate back home) and John can rustle up great drinks! The Hotel was very peaceful and comfortable, with lots of little special touches from being an independent Hotel. The getaway I needed.

Our stay at the “Los Castaños” was wonderful and we can only recommend this place. We were together with our 9 months old baby and everything was great, but I recommend going without babies in order to be able to enjoy the place without worries. Also, one has to have at least one dinner there. I had my best duck ever!
