Visited here at the weekend with the girls. You need to book in advance, we booked two weeks before and only time was 6.30. Nice ambiance and friendly staff who could explain the dishes on offer. Well presented food, portion size reasonable - would have liked option to order vegetables. Thought deserts slightly over priced.

A very nice room and great welcome from the hosts, decor was a bit on the fussy side for me (less is more) all of the bits and peices and ornaments in the the bar area all seemed very new and "placed"....just not my taste but thats all. Immaculately clean, beautifully cooked breakfast (which took a tad too long at 20 minutes... More

My family visited the 1863 Bistro (Elm House) Pooley Bridge on two occasions during our holiday. We had a very pleasant experience, excellent quality food and friendly service. Pooley Bridge is a short distance from the A66 and the M6, and is located at the north end of Ullswater, Cumbria.

Warm welcome to wet walkers. Superb food surpassed our expectations. Imaginative menu cooked to perfection and presented with flair but no fuss! Breakfast of same high standard. Family run business with professional chef. Friendly with attention to detail. Little details like bathrobe and conditioner and a cork screw with wine glasses much appreciated. Severe weather meant our walk had to... More

Stayed here for one night and had dinner too. Food was lovely, fresh and local and too many good puddings to choose from. Breakfast also nice. Room was clean and comfy but take care when showering, water can flip between hot and cold but would recommend otherwise.

We had one of the best meals in a long time. Opted for the belly pork which was amazing. Could not fault the whole evening. Perfect decor, service and food. Just wished we had such a quality restaurant/bistro locally to us. Thankyou for a lovely evening.

We went for the second time, as the first time was for opening weekend and was superb. We were not disappointed by the service, the quality of the food or the wine. The Dressed Crab starter was gorgeous as was the Sea Trout main, beautifully presented and the peanut Butter Ice Cream that accompanied the Treacle Tart was to die... More

Recommended to eat here by a family member. Very nice and welcoming team , with an excellently stocked bar ( especially the gin ). Dinner was fantastic, the presentation was on par with the stuff you see in the Masterchef final , and it tasted divine. Portion sizes were perfect to allow you to enjoy all three courses without being... More

Considering the prices of the food was on par with the rest of the village it was fantastic value! We tentatively went for a look and weren't disappointed. The decor is fantastic and has a great feel about it. The menu is very, very simple in a sense. It only had 7 or so mains, but each one was done... More
