The bistro at 1863 was recommended to our group of local business women and the menu on offer for a pre-Christmas meal looked enticing and good value. Our evening out more then lived up to high expectations - friendly welcome, excellent food (and wine) and a lovely atmosphere.

We stayed for two nights in November and had a great stay. We were given a very warm welcome. Our room was very comfortable and the food was fabulous, It was a short walk from the hotel to Ullswater and only a short walk onto the nearby fells. Perfect! We'd stay here again and look forward to sampling more of...

We stayed one night and ended up eating in the restaurant after walking around the village to see what else was available and we made the right choice. The staff simply couldn't do enough for us and we would definitely stay there again if we are in the area.

Staff and owners welcomed us warmly and the decor and rooms were newly refurbished and stylishly decorated. The menu was good and the cooking and presentation excellent. The village is situated near Ullswater and the surrounding countryside is magnificent. Great for an overnight stay or longer.

This actually was a very unusual experience. The food We had tasted delicious although not our first choice. We would have liked the pork belly but it was finished and on a limited menu we had sea trout although it looked more like salmon to both me and my friend. None the less it was delightful. The portion sizes were...

Stayed for two nights in a lovely small double room with en suite shower. The room was beautifully decorated and laid out with a little two seater sofa in there. Stayed in room two which looks directly up the high street of Pooley Bridge. Tea and coffee tray in the room. The bed was really comfortable. The owners and staff...

1863 is such a breath of fresh air for the area. Beautifully presented, locally sourced, very tasty food and such good value for this standard. Service is friendly and unpretentious and we really hope this continues its success.
