Let me start by saying that it is not the Ritz. In its own quiet way, it is much better! I instantly felt welcomed like family and was overcome by the beauty of this little ecolodge. Nope, you do not have all the comforts of home. First off, why would you even want to watch TV when the scenery is so spectacular? All the windows are screened so I found I didn't miss A/C at all; the breeze off the lake was cooling and the sound of the waves like a lullaby. Everything we ate and drank while we were there was grown, harvested and prepared on site. Yes, even the rice! They make their own cheese and coffee, both of which are delicious! Their honey is from their own bee hives and has a taste quite unlike Canadian honey but equally delicious. I have been in Nicaragua for a month now and, so far, the Tierra Blanca has been my most comfortable stay. I am adjusted to asking for a pump to be turned on so that I may have a shower and to having a cool shower, so neither of these things bothered me. Ask Hernan to give you a tour of the farm! His enthusiasm is contagious and his knowledge is vast! We saw all manner of plants, everything has a purpose. We also got to see the resident monkeys! So cool! Our bed was comfortable and the front porch is a perfect place to spend lazy afternoons and evenings. The shoreline has been left natural so that you can enjoy the quiet and the birds. If you choose to swim, you have to walk about 100 meters down the beach. We were happy to just enjoy how natural everything was; there are lots of other places on the island that you can swim. We have friends joining us from Canada in a couple of months and can't wait to take them to this beautiful piece of Nicaraguan heaven!

A quiet, family run ecolodge about a 5min drive out of town. It was great, perfect for relaxation! The family offers activities to keep yourself busy including horseback riding and hiking up the nearby volcano, Conception. The farm is quite large and you could spend a day exploring it! The food here was home made and delicious. Everybody in the family was very nice and more than willing to help with anything needed. The owner, Hernan, is an amazing local veterinarian that is very interesting to talk to. He is full of knowledge and passion for his life and local area. He knows how to speak English, Spanish, and Russian (better than I do and I'm Russian!). Everything was clean and the grounds offered several places to relax on the lake as well as a few hammocks and undercover areas. I recommend renting a motorcycle to fully explore the island and all that it has to offer! I cannot wait for the opportunity to return in the future!

This hotel is very dirty; the beach is not ready for swimming or taking a walk by it. The place is full of spiders. Do not eat the food, it is bad, and they over charge. Also it is locate very far from town.

This accommodation is quite rustic as one might expect from an ecolodge and definitely not suited for everyone. That being said the longer we stayed the more we liked it. The family that runs the lodge is very friendly, helpful and hardworking. We were travelling with our two large, long haired dogs and this was the perfect spot for them. No a/c but was comfortable as lovely breezes come off the lake and there are plenty of shaded areas. (Plus lots of hammocks!) It is true that the water is rationed, but a simple request to turn it on when a shower is wanted is all it takes. This lodge is a little out of town but within walking distance of a keen hiker, about 4 klm

If you want night life, you are a little far out of town, but it is perfect for relaxxation. It is a family owned, working farm that employs ecological practices. Lots of wildlife, bring your binoculars as you are on the lake and there are lots of birds. The family is very welcoming.
