The hostel itself is really nice, with friendly staff and a nice pool. The food is also very good and well priced. The rooms are clean and relatively spacious. Showers work and there is warm water. Its a little way out of town and was very quiet when I was there. Would recommend it, if you're staying in Moyogalpa.
Honestly one of the best places we’ve stayed in on all our travels through Latin America. We really appreciated the immaculate gardens and pool, all the lovely staff, the proximity to town (far enough to be quiet but close enough to walk), hot water, good quality food (a range of pastas and curries) private terrace (we had one or the detached bungalows) and the firefly show every evening on the grass.
We have had a great experience with the hotel. Unfortunately, we had a scooter accident and had to stay 2 weeks on the island to recover. During these 2 weeks the hotel was so helpful. They brought us food in the room every day, arranged multiple doctor visits and helped us with booking taxis all the way to Managua. Next to the great help, the pool and rooms are nice and cleaned everyday. You can choose if you want to stay in a dorm or a private room (with or without airconditioning and warm water). The restaurant is good for breakfast and diner and well priced. We are very grateful for the offered help by the whole team and a special thanks to Javier. We highly recommend staying at Soma!
This is a great place to stay in Ometepe! walking distance from the ferry and restaurants. If you don't have a car, Soma is perfect! close to everything and quiet at the same time. They make reservations for us to get a quad, and call tuk tuk if is need it. They have rooms for any kind of budget. Rooms are super clean. Great food! The staff and owners very friendly! Highly recommended!
I will go back to Ometepe just to hang out at this wonderful place again. Everything was beyond expectations. Super generous and gracious people. Clean quiet room. Delicious meals, open and expansive common area made it easy to meet others or have privacy. Great for solo, or group travellers.
This tranquil oasis is a 10 minute walk from the ferry terminal in Moyogalpa. It has a lovely garden area and a beautiful pool area. There is an open air undercover restaurant area that overlooks the pool and the gardens and is spacious and very nicely presented. There are a couple of different accommodation options to choose from and these and scatted throughout the grounds. We were in one of their more budget friendly rooms, which in a hut with only one neighbouring room. Our room was clean and comfortable and was a good size. It had a porch at the front with a table and a couple of chairs. The hotel is safe and secure and they have a security guard on duty at night. It’s in a quiet part of town and is a nice place to come and relax. They provide free filtered water and they have plenty of alcohol spray and gel available. Breakfasts each morning was delicious and featured eggs, cheese, tortillas and gallo pinto. One of our favourite features of this hotel was its super fast internet. This makes it a great space for the digital nomads. You can pay by cash or card in either USD or cordobas.…
Wonderful place to stay! We first chose Soma because it was quiet and had excellent internet for a series of Zoom meetings and negotiations. It all went perfectly. In fact, one wall was the perfect green for putting up meeting backgrounds and we looked so professional putting up the library image behind our "desk." After the work was done, we were so comfortable that we stayed on for a whole week. I highly recommend Soma for a period of home officing in amazing comfort or a brief "stay-cation" for a change of pace. This hotel is just a short walk or tuk-tuk ride from the port town of Moyogalpa, but it felt worlds away. So peaceful. The whole property was lush, spacious and breezy, with everyone respecting distance, and masking when appropriate. It felt very safe and respectful. Guest numbers were being kept low so that each guest could feel uncrowded. Breakfast choices on the open-air dining patio were wholesome and delicious- especially the homemade granola with local fruit and yogurt. In the room, I first noticed how large it was, with comfy beds and lots and lots of fluffy pillows. We each got our own top-sheet on the king-size bed and slept great. The A/C was a treat! The room was super clean too. Large private verandas on the cabins gave amazing privacy. Sarah and Terry were gracious and helpful. We got menus to order in great delivery dinners from restaurants and advice to find what we wanted. Oh, and the pool was crystal clear and refreshing! Oh, and did I mention pillows?!!!! It is our favorite place. We will be back soon.…
My husband, daughter and I travelled to Nicaragua for the second time in early March 2020, never dreaming that a global pandemic would be declared shortly after we arrived. The news forced us to cut our trip short by a few days and because we had just arrived on Ometepe (our first visit to the island), we decided to stay there for the duration of our trip rather than going to a more populated area of the mainland as we had originally planned. We had booked a family cabin at Hospedaje Soma for 3 nights and ended up staying for 6 -that was a great decision. It is such a lovely place owned by such lovely people. Fellow Canadians Sarah, Terry and Michele and their fabulous staff could not have been kinder and more welcoming. The grounds are gorgeous, the pool fabulous and the restaurant area relaxing and comfortable. The food at the restaurant and the drinks we enjoyed poolside were delicious. Our cabin was clean, large, beautiful and incredibly comfortable. And we did so much on Ometepe, thanks in large part to the advice of our hosts. They helped us plan day trips and hire fantastic drivers -huge highlights were Ojo de Agua and the day we spent on ATVs travelling across the island to the San Ramon waterfall. We had the most incredible time and are all so grateful that we were able to spend the majority of our time on Ometepe at Hospedaje Soma. They are both jewels of Nicaragua.…
My girlfriend and I spent 3 nights on Ometepe in November. We loved our time on the island, thanks in no small part to the excellent meals, comfortable beds, and helpful advice and support we enjoyed while staying at Hospedaje Soma. We particularly liked being able to cool off in the pool on the day we arrived after a long drive and the ferry ride, the honor system that provided in-demand access to sodas and snacks, and the friendly cats that stalk the property. The owners helped us arrange 4-wheelers (at what we learned was a fair rate) to get around the island, provided insights into which destinations to prioritize, and generally made us feel at home. We loved both the breakfasts we ate there every morning as well as the outstanding Italian (pomodoro) and Indian (butter chicken). Because the sights are spread all over the island, there is no area significantly more convenient than the rest, and we were happy to be so close to the port and in so quiet an area,…
We first stayed at Hospedaje Soma for a coincidence for two days, on our way to Granada. It turned out to be the most fantastic place! Actually, we all felt a bit “homesick” longing for Ometepe and the calm and unique atmosphere in Soma, so we came back and stayed for another 8 days. We are travelling in Latin America with two kids (2 and 4 years old) for 3 months, and Ometepe and living at Soma is the absolute highlight of our trip so far. The Hostal is an unique mix of all kinds of people; backpackers travelling alone at all ages, couples, families with children... so nice. The two sweetest kittens and the dog Roxy was a big hit, not to mention all the toys available. We spent many hours playing building Lego boats and swimming in the nice pool. It’s easy to feel that the owners Sarah, Terry and Michelle have their hearts and souls in the Hostal. We will definitely recommend Hospedaje Soma and hope to come back another time! …
