We had an evening meal in the restaurant and the food was superb. Generous portions, beautifully presented, very tasty and perfectly cooked. It is on the expensive side but worth it, especially for a special occasion.

We were recommended to try this pub which is more of a restaurant really. We called in the night before to have a look and book. We were shown the menu and decided to book for the following evening. The menu is interesting with some imaginative dishes. The waitress brought us a complimentary dish of bread and olives before our... More

We booked for a Saturday night meet with friends. It was early evening & the place was busy but the staff were efficient & the atmosphere was relaxed. We were well looked after & shown to our table, treated well like we were the only people who mattered. The food was delicious, the service was timely & the place was... More

This is the 3rd and 4th time we have been to the Fox and Hounds when in North Yorkshire and each time we have been greeted with a warm and friendly welcome. Travelling as a family with kids the choice is always good and the food excellent. We had lunch in the bar this time and their was a little... More

Each year we visit good friends in North Yorkshire and always take them out for dinner at their favourite local restaurant. Last year this was the Fox and Hounds at Sinnington (see previous Review) and this year we paid a return visit. I'm glad we did as both the food and service were as good as ever. This really must... We turned up without a booking early on a Friday evening. Although they were booked solid, the lady at the bar found room for us. So glad she did. I had a delicious fish pie. At the moment I can only eat soft food due to oral surgery. Glad of hat this time. Rich and creamy and full of fish.... More

A hearty menu with local seasonal traditional fare, locally sourced where possible. Very pleasant country setting, ideal for a stop on route or as a base fore the local area. Always have a good draught beer available. Wise to book at peak times.

Found this by accident but what a find. Traditional looking restaurant with an English menu but with a twist. All tasted incredibly fresh and obviously great quality. The leek and potato soup was excellent but on our second visit the watercress, potato and pancetta soup was even better!!! A small serving of fresh bread comes with olives as a pre... More

Our children had laid on a surprise family lunch to celebrate our Golden Wedding. We had the small dining room to ourselves 8 adults ,4 children and a high chair babe. We were treated fantastically with service beyond reproach and the food as always was excellent. The childrens portions were larger than average and the children all agreed it was... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This attractive 18th-Century former coaching inn in one of the prettiest villages in North Yorkshire offers a warm welcome the minute you arrive. A little loop road just off the A170 Helmsley to Pickering road on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors, Sinnington has everything a classic English village should; a maypole, a village green, a 12th century church and ducks feeding on the beck that gently winds its way through the village. There are pretty riverside and woodland walks nearby. Its cosy bar, open fire and hanging hops deliver a rustic and relaxing atmosphere. There's also a contemporary restaurant that boasts oak tables and attractive lighting - ideal for those looking for that slightly more intimate affair. But wherever you choose to sit, you can be assured of a delicious meal. This is a destination for people who enjoy good food cooked well. The three chefs source many of their ingredients locally, making the most of the area's fine meats and fish and home grown vegetables and herbs. The meat is supplied by BW & DJ Glaves of Brompton by Sawdon, Scarborough and all the fish is delivered daily from the east coast. The inn has an AA rosette awarded for culinary excellence which has been maintained for the past 15 years. Typical dishes such as a twice baked Lincolnshire poacher cheese souffle and a platter of fish cakes, little fish and chips, king scallop, salmon and aspargus salad are popular throughout the year. Other options include a Roast breast and leg of Guinea Fowl, sage crushed potato, asparagus and oyster mushroom cream or confit Duck Leg, chorizo, roast pepper and pea risotto, orange and watercress salad. Chefs specials are also offered for both lunch and dinner. Lighter lunches and an early evening supper menu are also offered daily such as a chargrilled minute steak, fries, pepper sauce and salad or onion rings or roast belly pork and black pudding, chive mash, apple sauce and crackling .All puddings are homemade and if you're struggling to decide what to choose, there is an assiette of puddings that has a little bit of everything - puddings change on a daily basis.Fresh bread is baked every morning and the chefs like to try different ingredients for evening dinners complimentary bread and olive. Flavours have included parmesan and chive or chorizo and sun dried tomato. Sundays bring traditional roasts with a range of different options - including beef, pork and lamb served with a Yorkshire Pudding and also a fish and a vegetarian dish. Accommodation is available all year round, and has been awarded 4 Stars from the English Tourism Council. ... more   less
