Me and my wife stayed at the Laguna bay Hotel & Spa in Mauritius 🇲🇺 in April 2024 for 14 nights and had an exceptional holiday experience. The staff were attentive and courteous the food was good and varied and the drinks were cold and plentiful. The hotel is a small boutique hotel with its own private beach and jetty. Staff go up and beyond to provide all that you need to make your holiday stay enjoyable and arranged taxis as and when or helicopter hire so that we could view the whole of Mauritius 🇲🇺 by air. Due to my wife's needs, we needed a bath and the hotel moved us to a room that had a bath and shower as soon as it became available 😀. We can fully recommend this hotel for couples and families but it is a 25 minute taxi rode to Rum Bay and shops and bars/restaurants, but the hotel has it's own evening entertainment for guests. If it is a quite hotel set in glorious sunshine location on the wonderful island 🏝 of Mauritius 🇲🇺 then go to the Laguna Bay Hotel & Spa as you will not be disappointed 😉. I hope this review helps and that you have a wonderful holiday 😀 Safe Travels 😀 from Andrew & Joanne Nunnen 😀😎😁

The hotel staff are amazing and make this hotel. From the smiley omelette chef, waitresses, bar staff and cleaners. The reception are very professional and always solve any issues.

There was a good selection of drinks on the inclusive menu but you could pay for other drinks. The food was varies every night. I am vegetarian and found something but found one night there was a lack of warm food for me to choose from.
The hotel is quiet and very relaxed and a great place to relax, unfortunately one night there was a large group of boys, who where very loud as shouted and ignored all the rules but as said they where there 1 night so didn't ruin the stay.
It was advertised they had aquacise and volley ball but there was never any.
There was evening entertainment 4 nights out of 7 and it was enjoyable to watch the dancers and singers.

The beach was ok but nothing to shout about but again pool was nice to swim in and relax.

The free glass bottom boat to the island was a disappointment. All you saw was dead Coral and no fish and the island beach was full of grass and seaweed and again no sea life seen when snorkeling.

If you book any trips see Ben who sells the beach wraps for 200 ruppes on the beach. He will organise anything at a very good deal. The hotel rep and beach hut are expensive for trips. I booked some also through trip advisor.

The rooms were cleaned daily and you can have fresh towels daily if requested.

The waiters most night where quick to take drink orders and clear plates and again were very polite, happy and friendly.
The spa I didn't use as thought it was pricey.
Overall I thought the hotel was lovely and would stay again.

Lovely small hotel, which we like. Well laid out gardens and massive swimming pool. Beach was a major disappointment, it looks like perfect white sands in the photos but it was concrete with sand over and very thin in places The beach was small which was fine but you could only swim up to the barrier, assume because of the passing boats. No problem in finding a sunbed on the beach but the ones by the pool went quickly, especially the ones with umbrellas. The food was OK, themed nights every night and something different to eat. But not amazing. We asked for a room 304 on the top floor which we were given but it was over the restaurant/ entertainment so a bit noisy. Staff were all really friendly, but it seemed that at meal times, your plate was either cleared as soon as you put your cutlery down or left for a while. You can't walk along the beach as it is in a lagoon and I wouldn't want to walk on the roads as pavements seemed none existent and drivers were mad. We booked through mercury but trips seemed expensive, instead we booked a local taxi from reception at over half the price. Well worth a trip to the south of the island. For all inclusive, only a selection of local spirits and cocktails are included.

Hotel is based on the East coast of the island, the windy side, adjacent a small fishing village. There is nothing to do outside the hotel, there are no local restaurants or shops to go and browse, the nearest town "Flaque" is 20 minutes taxi away, where you will find the nearest ATM, hotel does not change money.

The hotel public areas are all clean and generally well present, the pools is a reasonable size with a depth of 1.2m no chance of drowning. The beach area is adequate - small for the size of the hotel is kept tidy and there is never a shortage of sunbeds so no need for that ridiculous towel dash to spoil the holiday. There is no other beach close by or adjacent.

Our room was clean and basic perhaps a little old and tired but generally OK, we met others at the resort who had the beach style huts running side on to the main hotel and those rooms looked very nice. Our room had a balcony which had a sea view but overlooked a small holding with chickens and cockerels and every morning at daybreak the cockerel would kick in.

The food at the hotel is varied in what they serve however the majority of what is served is Bland, Tandori chicken is just chicken with a red tint to it, Lamb Rogan Josh is just lamb with no sauce there is a tofu curry which tastes of absolutely nothing.

Trips out can be expensive starting around £100/person /trip, however the hotel runs a boat trip free of charge to a small island just up the coast which is well worth a try.

The hotel is located in a very dodgy location, the neighborhood is very scary. When you enter into to premises of the resort it's nice with good views of the ocean.

I was booked into a deluxe room but honestly it looks very standard or lower than that, the bathroom drains are smelling, even when you ask housekeeping to come clean the hotel manager kept on insisting that his staff has cleaned. Towels where not changed and I stayed for 7 nights so you can imagine how uncomfortable that is. They never put any air freshener in the bathroom and never bothered washing the shower on any day

Food was just average, they can do better hey. The only good thing was the entertainment at night being Alex and hus team they really gave us that African vibe and we enjoyed.

Personally I wouldn't go back, I would rather go to the north side of Mauritius

We have just returned from a very enjoyable and relaxing 12 days at the Laguna Beach hotel. We chose this hotel as it was both small and quiet and it certainly didn't disappoint. Frequently we almost had the beach to ourselves which was amazing, and there was never an issue with the availability of sunbeds either on the beach or round the pool. The rooms are kept very clean by some lovely and friendly housekeeping ladies, but the rooms could do with some updating. I can see this would be a major undertaking as there are stone plinths in several places within the room. The balcony was very large with excellent lighting meaning we could sit out late at night and complete crossword puzzles.
The hotel is very isolated on the outskirts of a small village with little facilities. We were only able to do one trip as we couldn't pay for the taxi trip by card and we had very limited cash with us, and there is no ATM either in the hotel or village, you needed a taxi to take you to a cash machine, however the trip to Port Louis and the north of the island was very good value.
Food was plentiful and generally pretty good. As a pescatarian I am used to having a limited choice, however there did seem to be only 1 variety of fish served, which was disguised with slightly different sauces. Because the food is prepared in advance the fish did suffer from being overcooked and dried out, but the vegetables, rice and potatoes were fine, and the soup was especially hot and tasty each night.
However, the dining experience was let down by the overall organisation and the waiting staff who run the dining room. Almost every time we went for dinner we had to wait and ask for a table to be set in the outdoor area as it was too hot to eat inside. It appeared we were invisible to the staff who just ignored us. After a week I did go to the front desk to make them aware of the issue, but there was only a marginal improvement. The waiting staff seemed to be focussed only on clearing plates and twice they took my plate off me while I was still eating. On a positive note, the lovely Habiba was wonderful, greeting us with a welcoming smile and making us feel like valued guests, she should be put in charge of training the waiting staff, teaching them that a welcoming smile and greeting goes a long way. All the other staff, chefs, people serving the food, housekeeping staff, front desk personnel were really friendly speaking to you and always asking how I was today. (I use a stick and my back is stiff and aching in a morning.)
Overall, a good place to stay if you appreciate a small hotel and like having a quiet relaxing time. We would definitely consider returning as this hotel was good value for money.

Super special location, right on the beach within amazing view of the ocean & mountains...well maintained rooms and super big swimming pool right on the ocean with the best view. Restaurant Staff is good and Chef needs to be more personal with guests especially vegetarian. Overall, super stay and we got the family room, pl go for a bigger room if available. Standard rooms are gd too but not very spacious. The resort is very well kept & they have sub loungers in gd numbers for the pool as well as their own private little beach. The place is next to Jetty for boat tracel to any island. It is a little far from tourist places and peaceful for someone seeking a private and peaceful holiday. Overall, a great experience !

Magnificent 15-day stay in this hotel where everything was perfect.
Thank you to all the members of the hotel for your kindness and dedication; A special hello to Francesca from reception, Divina and Souvereen from the server team, to Veena who took such good care of our room during our stay. Thanks to the kitchen team who delighted us. Thanks to Janique and Jaeson from the entertainment team for livening up our evenings and thanks to “chef chef” who knows why.
The infinity pool is a delight with a magnificent view. The beach is very pleasant and shaded; cleaned every day, the view of the sea and the passing boats is pleasant and watching the birds is enchanting.
Taxis available within the hotel grounds at reasonable prices and very friendly and helpful drivers who give you information about the island; Thanks to them.

This is the first time I have ever written a review for myself, I usually just let my mum do it. However I think that this hotel/spa is exceptional. The staff are all incredible at what they do, very helpful and go beyond when it comes to interactions. I'm quite messy and yet every time I go back to my room the cleaners have done such an amazing job that my room is all of a sudden spotless. While staying at the hotel the euros were on and, as a fan of football, we asked for the games to be on despite how late they were on. The staff at reception especially the manager were happy to set it up for us. Alex is apart of the entertainment team and is amazing. While at the hotel we made quite a relationship, the energy Alex had all of the time was unreal. Honestly, as someone who has never done a review before the main point I can get across is to not listen to negative comments left on this hotel, it's only possible criticism is it's food and all I can say about that is be open minded as people only complained due to being picky. If you are picky, you can simply ask the staff to make you something- they would be more than happy to do so.

We came to Mauritius as the boys wanted to do fishing! And they had the best day ever at Blackriver.

The hotel is very nice the rooms are clean with tea coffee and a small fridge the rooms are a bit dated but as a base they are absolutely fine we had a room with a pool view, you could hear the entertainment in the evening, the actual area is very much in a local area and there isn't much around in walking distance you need to either hire a car or get taxi, we used taxi they can be expensive we were here for two weeks.
Alex was very much the talk of the group he came and chatted with us alot and even got us up to dance!
He made us laugh most days and is a real asset to the hotel. Very chatty and interesting to talk to.
The food was very good we ate far to much and there was plenty of it. The restaurant staff are all very friendly and attentive always there to ask if we need drinks or anything.
