We absolutely loved Zion as a park and will return. When we do, we will either reserve a campsite at Watchman or stay in a lodge / hotel. The South campground is first come first serve. The setting is lovely but, the hosts were cranky and the campsite itself was easily the messiest we have used in over 25 nights... More

First come first serve. I got in line on a Friday morning at about 6:45 and was #16 in line. Got my spot by 09:00. My intent was to be there at 05:30 but the time change got me. Staff is friendly and is volunteer, they don't have to be there, if it was a concession operation it wouldn't be... More

If you didn't reserve ahead of time for Watchman Campground, you have no choice but to wait in line for South Campground because this whole campsite is first come first serve. That's what we did, got there at 3am on July 3rd. It was dark and couldn't see where the line started (since we were the 1st one there) so... More

This is a good campground. It is well located, and next to the Virgin river. Since it was 108 degrees when we visited, the river was extremely appreciated and enjoyed. It is shallow, so nice for kuds, too. We could easily walk to the shuttle or small grocery. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because there are no... More

We drove all the way from Las Vegas at 4am in the morning there to get a spot! Lining up for "first come, first serve" starts at 7am and depending on luck how much people will come and try to get a spot, they are usually out by noon. We decided to extend one night there because it was so... More

This is a great alternative to watchmen. We arrived at 6:30am and waited for 90mins or so before we got allocated a place, just be patient. It's a 'busy' campground but no way does it feel like you have no privacy. No issues of noise either. No showers yes but we bathed in the river with bio-degradable soap which is... More

Zion needs far more camping spaces In the month of May you had to be lucky and catch a site as someone left Zion itself is very impressive but if waiting in line as if you are at Disney over Christmas does not appeal then I would suggest a less popular destination

FINDING A CAMPING SPOT Zion is extremely busy during the summer season. If you do not have reservations for the South Campground, you can arrive early in the morning and wait in line for any openings. However, plan on getting in line at 6 am and no later than 7. We visited in mid-June and arrived to the campground at... More

This is not for campers who want to get away from it all, but it is a great location and we had a wonderful stay. I was pretty nervous about going after I read through TripAdvisor reviews talking about the overwhelming popularity of the campground, but we got a spot. The uncertainty of securing a spot was definitely the worst... More

While South Campground clearly doesn't compare to the great NPS campgrounds that are found in Arches and Big Bend National Parks (and others), after our recent three-night stay I've decided it does earn 4 stars. These are my opinions; YMMV. By the way... we tented. The most common complaints on tripadvisor seem to be 1) No showers. True. Also true... More
