We have been to Alaska six times. On our last trip, we asked the owner/manager of a lodge where we were repeat guests to recommend a place for us to add. She didn't hesitate before saying Ultima Thule. We booked and every detail was handled beautifully. The information before we arrived, follow up about any last minute questions, arrangements to arrive from Macarthy. But then the real magic started. The flight from Macarthy, arrival at the lodge, welcome from staff (Pete was fantastic). Our cabin was exquisite and absolutely delightful. There was a beautiful snack tray and an in-cabin refrigerator with cold beverages. A welcoming glass of wine and an introductory meeting to plan our stay. The food was superb (thank you, Chris!). The grounds and flowers lovely. Logan is as good a general manager as you'll find. We were lucky enough to fly with Paul and every day was a miracle. I'd say "once in a lifetime" but we've already booked for next year. And can't wait to have the next of what I am sure will be many visits.…
I don’t know where to even start with Ultima Thule Lodge. The people, the food, the accommodations, the Bush pilots. All the vision of The Klaus clan. It’s a pricey vacation but worth every penny. The daily excursions we so remarkable and our pilot Mike could not have been any nicer. An Alaska native with significant experience he found wildlife and natural wonders for us to see. It really was magical
The most amazing place ever! I searched for several months to find the most amazing and epic trip for our 20th anniversary. After much deliberation I chose this experience. It couldn't have been more perfect. The team there worked really hard to make sure everything was perfect, and carefully matched visitors with pilots. We lucked out and got Paul as a pilot, and had an amazing experience photographing the most memorable places imaginable. Nothing is as epic as this scenery and it will forever change your perspective. I'm pretty sure it ruined us because the drive back to Anchorage seemed dull and boring in comparison, despite having amazing scenery of it's own. The pilots work really hard to make sure you get the best out of each day, and make flying and landing in the most ridiculous places look effortless. The team at the lodge was all very caring and nice, and we both felt welcome, even in these times of covid insanity. I am already pining for my next trip here, and I hope to be back again next year already!…
My wife and i have traveled and worked all over the world and this trip to Ultima Thule was a trip of a lifetime. Do to complications from a foot surgery i was not able to walk around much, but i knew i had to go. Given this issue, the owners flew me in his plane so i could stretch out my leg. Then they had another pilot and plane to fly my wife, so we caravanced around, amazing. We have been wow'd by scenery, food, accomadtions, and staff on walking safaris in Tanzania and live aboard dive trips in southern indonesia. This expereince meet or exceeded those experiencess on all levels. I never thought any place could feel bigger than Africa but this place is especiallly awe inspiring. To land a plane on a glacier is amazing. I have to admit to being a pilot so this type of flying is epecially unique withhow they are able to land and take off.in 100 feet or less and on uneven ground. We learned about the amazing people who come to Alaska to make a life. we learned about Alaskan weather, Wrangell St. Elian Nationtal Park and how glacier work. The chef was especially creative with our halifbut and salmon dishes. he used a one of a kind pho sause, herbs and vegetable from their garden plus he did some foraging for accents to the food. On our last day we sat for along time watching a glacier fall/calve into the sea while eating the best sandwich i may have every had, it was a contest ever day to wow you with another rare sandwich blend. Everyone one of the staff had a unique story to tell. you could tell they loved the very special place they worked and shared with guests. The owner Paul and his family are amazing people to have created a very specail place. i would highly recommend Ulitima Thule to anyone who really wants a big taste of one of the last huge unspoiled places on earth.…
I was so awe inspired for several days, I don't know where to start. With little to no development in the Wrangell-St Elias Park, the way to "get around" was by bush plane. There were so many different types of scenery from sand dunes, to the Bagley Ice Field, to a ridge walk, to landing on a glacier just to throw rocks into a moraine (for my teenage boys to delight in). Everyday was a 7 hour breathtaking adventure, followed by returning to the sauna and gourmet meals. An amazing packed lunch was provided daily with fresh baked bread, and on the ridge walk, our guide prepared hot tea. On the day we went to icy bay, someone had packed us some wine to sip on while we watched bits of glacier fall into the ocean. We had very high expectations, as we risked Covid-19 to get to Alaska from Massachusetts, and the trip did not disappoint. Trip of a lifetime.…
