My husband and I stayed in a charming rustic cabin within walking distance to hikes that were good for their overlooks and not too challenging for over 65 walkers. The restaurant, bar and snack bar provided good food all within walking distance as well. Nice...More
A very relaxing facility to use as a home base for hiking sections of the Appalachian Trail and other easily accessible trails. The views are exceptional and Skyland provides a number of lodging options.
Always enjoy being at Skyland. This is our first visit of the new season. Shenandoah is a fabulous park (although budget constrained, I wish there were more ranger-led programs). The food service seems to have been upgraded this year, so that's a plus. (It was...More
Skyland Resort is a fabulous destination for anyone looking to get away from the noise and hubbub of everyday life. Be prepared for accommodations that are definitely "rustic", a bit of adjoining room noise, and areas that are showing their age. The staff are generally...More
Upgraded accommodations. Outstanding place to relax, enjoy mountain scenery, hiking. Most rooms are well furnished. Very comfortable beds. Restaurant needs attention. Food not great, limited choices, inaccurate charges.

There is Wifi in the Dining Room and Bar area and Store and Reservation Desk, some guest rooms. Wifi isn't available staying in many of the rooms, cabins, lodging at Skyland. You can get cell service in Some Locations but Not All of them. Many cabins/rooms people stay in have no internet, no tv and no cell service, no ceiling fan and no AC. Want entertainment in your room, during bad weather? Download to your device before you get to Skyland, Wifi Isn't Strong Enough to download or stream anything. Option is portable projector that can play DVDs on room wall.

You'd need to drive to the trailhead for Old Rag. Check the map or call Skyland to see how far it is from Old Rag. Also note the NPS website: "Old Rag is Shenandoah's most popular and most dangerous hike. The number of blogs and websites about this hike attests to its popularity. The number of search and rescue missions each year attests to its danger. There's no doubt that the scramble is great fun and the views are spectacular. A day on Old Rag is one of Shenandoah's premier experiences. We want to be sure that your experience is not marred by an accident or health issue that could be prevented with good planning."
