Been traveling here over the last 30+ years. With room and restaurant improvements it provides a location value that is worth the generally higher cost of non-NPS hotels. The surrounding environment on Skyline Drive is chock full of outdoor fun from easy to technically challenging...More
We selected Skyland for it's weather in summer (we are in sticky Florida) and it's pet friendly accommodations. Staying three nights it was lovely. The views are spectacular, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Had some lovely excursions with the dogs and found a...More

Skyland is in a perfect location on the Skyline Drive. On the one night I spent there I watched the sun set out on the terrace of the restaurant. The next morning I woke up and drove to a nearby overlook and watched the sun...More

At the Skyland Resort, I requested and received the Maple Cabin No. 58, which is a duplex cabin connected to no. 57. The location was great; located at the very end of the row of cabins; situated right next to the upper pathway that leads...More

There is Wifi in the Dining Room and Bar area and Store and Reservation Desk, some guest rooms. Wifi isn't available staying in many of the rooms, cabins, lodging at Skyland. You can get cell service in Some Locations but Not All of them. Many cabins/rooms people stay in have no internet, no tv and no cell service, no ceiling fan and no AC. Want entertainment in your room, during bad weather? Download to your device before you get to Skyland, Wifi Isn't Strong Enough to download or stream anything. Option is portable projector that can play DVDs on room wall.

You'd need to drive to the trailhead for Old Rag. Check the map or call Skyland to see how far it is from Old Rag. Also note the NPS website: "Old Rag is Shenandoah's most popular and most dangerous hike. The number of blogs and websites about this hike attests to its popularity. The number of search and rescue missions each year attests to its danger. There's no doubt that the scramble is great fun and the views are spectacular. A day on Old Rag is one of Shenandoah's premier experiences. We want to be sure that your experience is not marred by an accident or health issue that could be prevented with good planning."
