OK.... it is a 70 plus year old hotel that over looks an active volcano... The trails are at the hotel...... I cannot understand negative comments...this is not a five star hotel in Kona on a beach.... All of this given.....the rooms are very clean and comfortable, the staff over the top in customer service (6:30 pm hot cookie service...

The scenery is beautiful, but the hotel is not. We stayed 3 days and nights and I could never turn the shower hot enough and the weather was cold and rainy. Brr! The walls are very thin and we heard every step of the people above us. The rooms are old and drafty and the towels are small and thin....

A visit to Volcano National Park was my main goal in Big Island. Therefore I had to stay in this hotel located in the Park to be immersed in this atmosphere and enjoy the wonderful view. And, I did. WOW. it is quite expensive but I deserved it. Dinner at the window seat was fantastic, as well as the lunch....

We stayed in a deluxe crater room. First the view is off to the left and the windows are absolutely filthy. You can only see the crater if you stand right next to the window. The floors are wonky and creak really really loudly whenever anyone walks across them. Even if the person tries to be quiet. The room door...

This hotel is located on the rim of the crater and had fantastic views - from pastel sunrise to the lava glowing at night, we were in awe at the beauty and force of nature. The cooler temperatures at the crater were a welcome change from our hikes on the lava flows in the park. Hotel itself is well maintained,...

Volcano House was a good pick for staying right at the volcano caldera. It's hard to complain about a hotel at the top of a volcano... The hotel is central to the hiking trails in the area, is easily accessible and has views of the central crater from the dining room : restaurant and our hotel room (#30, which I...

This hotel's dining room and Uncle George's Bar both have breathtaking panoramic views of the crater, complete with billowing steam and bubbling lava. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean, but don't expect a cookie cutter 4 star hotel. This has much more of a wonderfully old fashioned national park resort feel with huge stone fireplaces, large cushiony...

Be totally aware that this hotel would under no circumstances be worth even 1/3 of its price if it were not inside of the park. To say the room was drab and outdated would be the kind way to put it. The carpets on the floor in the room were not kept well and stained. The room had a funky...

I am not sure how I would feel if we didn't happen to get a room facing the steaming, glowing volcano. Not sure how we were lucky enough to get that view. The room we had was small with ugly furniture and a very small bath with shower. The thing I loved was the small walk-in closet with drawers, hanging...
