We stayed for two nights at the Thunderbird Lodge at the Grand Canyon as part of a Caravan tour. I guess our room faced the parking lot and didn't have much of a view, but honestly, I hardly noticed because a few steps outside our door brought us to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, so it was all... Most of the hotels at the rim in Grand Canyon village are worn out and outdated. Unfortunately this lodge was no exception. You can see that people will come anyway, so there is little motivation to create a friendly atmosphere and keep the facilities in good shape. Of course, the location right at the rim is very convenient- step out... More

We were on a road-trip and wanted to stop at the Grand Canyon and much to our surprise there was a room available from about a month out. The service was amazing! Everyone was so nice. We stayed in a partial view room of the canyon - our view was of mostly the roof, however, It was nice to be... More

The lodge has been in place for many years and still has a very rustic and quaint feel to it. We had a room with 2 double beds, which left very little floor space, but we were only there to sleep, so it didn't matter. The view of the Canyon was very good, but when you are just steps away... More

We stayed for two nights; 9/2/2016 and 9/3/2016. We arrived in the middle of a torrential downpour, as we now know that early Fall is considered "monsoon season" in and around the Grand Canyon. So this is worth noting because....given the rain and wind, and our total and complete unfamiliarity with the area, we had no idea where we were... More

I know that some people are shocked at the price of the rooms and the age of the building. First of all you have to understand the costs of running a hotel in the Grand Canyon. Everything is trucked in, including water. Employees have to be provided housing, so they actually live and work there. These are costs that most... More

We spent a single night in the Thunderbird Lodge in a ground floor room facing away from the rim. In my opinion it's not worth paying money for a rim view; a handful of steps out the door and you're right on the rim. The room was surprisingly nice: nicely appointed, extra blankets and pillows, a work desk, and a... More

Not sure why the negative reviews?? Yes, parking can be difficult, we did find a spot on the street. The rooms have been updated and the bed/pillows were fine. I originally wanted an upper floor, but got a ground floor partial canyon view. Never heard anyone walking above us. Did hear the people next door one morning. I believe they... More

All of the hotels on the south rim are older. The thunderbird lacks the quaint factor. Built mid century it has needs such as an elevator for older folks. Ice was near impossible to find. Good effort on going green! Was glad to have 'a room in the park' so took what was available. Pricey.

It was awesome. A part of God's creation. The bus tour was fun and alot of information. We wouldn't have seen different parts of the canyon if we hadn't gone on it. The Thunderbird Lodge was nice and close to restaurants.
