Nestled in a scenic park setting, Apgar Village Lodge is frequently praised for its picturesque location and the rustic charm of its cozy cabins. Guests have called out the commendable cleanliness of the rooms, though they often note the rooms can feel cramped, overly warm, and are missing comforts such as air conditioning and coffee makers.
While the staff's attentiveness is recognized, some visitors express concerns over value, citing the lodge's high rates and minimal amenities. Despite this, the tranquility and cabin-like atmosphere continue to draw travelers seeking a rustic retreat.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed in a cabin with a kitchen for four nights in June 2021. We selected the cabins because of their location in Apgar Village and the location did not disappoint. We were close to everything! Kayaking, bicycling, hiking, and even ice cream were right outside our door. The location also gave us access to the Going to the Sun Road for the duration of our stay which was a huge bonus. We could also walk to dinner as well. The location, the bustling activity, and the atmosphere were all great. The cabin was generally clean, including the bed linens and towels.
Now, I will give you my complaints, albeit few. The cabin was very old and dated, which is what we expected. But the shower and the shower curtain were filthy. There was also no light in the shower stall which made it incredibly dark, especially if you showered at night. The stall was also tiny! It was one of those situations where you could not put your elbows out when you washed your hair. And the toilet was directly in front of the bathroom sink, which made things a little difficult. It was easier to just brush your teeth in the kitchen. There is also a serious lack of places to hang things, especially in the bathroom. There was no where to hang a robe or a towel near the shower stall. It would also be helpful to have a bench inside the door so you could sit and remove your muddy hiking boots.

If you are looking for the perfect location, look no further. The Apgar Village Lodge is steps from spectacular Lake McDonald and just minutes from the Going to the Sun Road. It was absolutely the best spot to explore the Park. I'm still dreaming of the spectacular view over Lake McDonald. Additionally, there is also a great shop and coffee/ice cream bar directly next door.
The West Glacier Shops were just down the road, however we were not able to take advantage of them as everything had just closed for the season. If you visit, make sure to go before the third week of September if you want more options.
Perfect location aside, I also want to highlight some areas of improvement. The Motel is extremely basic; no TV, no phone, and very outdated decor. I do understand that people don't visit Glacier to stay in their motel rooms, but there are a few small things that could be updated that could make a massive impact. My recommendation to the owner is to invest in replacing the carpet and flooring in the bathroom. These were the two things that immediately caught my attention upon entering as it made the room feel "dirty". The shower also was very small; if you're heavy set, it could be a tight squeeze.
A word of warning for light sleepers; the walls are paper thin. We had a family next door and it felt like their kids were literally in the room with us. We could hear every word that was spoken. Bring your ear plugs or be sure to request a room, based on availability, that does not have another guest blocked directly next door. There are cabins available, so perhaps that could be an option to consider if you value privacy.
On a positive note, the bed was clean, comfy, and warm. For those of you looking to post pics immediately, be warned that there is no internet at the motel. I think this is actually great as it forces guests to put their phones down and simply take in and enjoy the views!
I highly recommend Apgar Village Lodge if you value location over amenities. I was able to put up with the "cons" as I was so excited to have the opportunity to stay inside the Park!

Felt really lucky to get a couple of nights at a cabin at Apgar on relatively short notice. They accommodated a request to be close to the water. Loved Apgar village.
I called to confirm they had cooking supplies, which they assured me they did. Unfortunately their idea of what was essential was pretty flawed. There was a sauce pan and a pot. There was no spatula, no baking trays or lid for saucepan. I did not expect spices, so I brought those, and I didn't mind the meager supplies as much as I was frustrated I was misled so I couldn't come prepared. A trip to the dollar store on the way from Kalispell would have made a huge difference.
A couple of tiny bars of soap and one sponge and a small bottle of dawn was provided. There was no shampoo.
In addition to the many mouse traps, the cabinets were full of mouse droppings. I can't imagine the cabin was empty long at peak season and it looked much more than a days worth.
We enjoyed our stay overall but letting people know what to bring if they want to use the kitchenette would have been helpful.

It's July and the room had no AC and I was aware of this. HOWEVER, they put a shelf in the bedroom and placed a fan on it in Room 31. There was NOT one outlet to pug the fan into!! I went to the office and lady at desk came back to our room to see. We found the outlet behind the headboard by pulling out the mattress on the opposite side of the room. The fan didn't even come close to reaching the power outlet and the office did not have an extension cord. The front bedroom's window do not open. Opening the front door to let in some air was not even possible given the bugs and no screen door. The ceiling in the shower was coming down and sagging. My son couldn't even use the bathroom toilet because the space was so small he couldn't fit! It was only as wide as the tank itself and stuffed behind the sink!. He and my husband had to use the public restroom at the campground. I get that it was an older hotel and that it was all about the location, but it was just unacceptable to have no power to be able to plug a fan in in the only room that had a small window to open or a toilet space so tight that some of my family had to use public restrooms! The lady at the front desk was really nice and the attached restaurant was good but staying at this hotel especially for the price we paid, was just awful. I would NOT have stayed here if I knew there would be no place to plug in the in fan that was provided or that my son or my husband wouldn't fit on the toilet. Who would choose this?? I'm not even a picky person and we enjoy camping. And then slapped in the face knowing I paid OVER $200 a night to stay here. Hey but the beds were comfortable and around 2am it started cooling off enough in the room to be able to fall asleep. Lady at front desk was really nice and they provided free coffee in the morning so there is that... and the location was amazing!! Just steps from the most beautiful scenery. Man, this place could be such a gem. But like many before me, we put up with the conditions I listed above for the opportunity to stay within the park. If this motel was in any other location, I would have checked out mins after checking in.

+1
Check-in was a breeze. The staff had a mask on and plexiglass for protection. We got lucky to have cabin 22 (2 queen beds) because it's right next to the creek, so we can see out from the cabin as well. The cabin is also in the shade for most of the day making it stay cool even when it was really hot. Even though a fan came with the cabin, we didn't use it because 1)there was no convenient place to plug the fan into that wouldn't be in the way and 2)we found that the breeze coming off of the creek at night was sufficient to keep the night cool.
As far as the kitchen goes, it was very basic. There was a small stove with 4 burners, which was enough for us. There were pots and pans as well as some plastic bowls(for washing or could be a big salad bowl) and utensils enough for 4 people. There was a rather flimsy spatula, a pizza cutter, a coffee maker, a toaster, but there were no real knives but steak knives. Neither there were dish detergent and seasoning or oil, so you'll have to bring those yourself.
The beds were comfortable, but some of the bedsheets could be replaced as some of them were piling quite a bit making it feel rough to the skin.
Since we did our grocery shopping in Kalispell, we only needed a few more things and Eddie's (cafe & mercantile)did the job. They had white bread, hotdog buns, some cheeses, and wines as well as some ready to go sandwiches. No veggies though.
Overall it was a great stay especially in early to midafternoon when it was quiet.

The location was beautiful but the amenities did not meet the expectation for the cost. Pans were gouged and unusable without proper tools to use with them - fine if you're not using the kitchen but we paid for it to be used. Minimum storage, no hooks or shelves to put anything on and 1 tiny dresser for the occupants of 3 queen-sized beds. No house-keeping came during our stay so we had to fetch our own toilet paper, soap, etc. from the office everytime. Roughing it in a cabin for the cost seemed not worth it.

The location amongst tall trees near Lake McDonald in Apgar Village provide nearby services and recreation. Boating on the lake, shops and a restaurant in Apgar Village are convenient, as are shops and a restaurant in nearby West Glacier (2 miles down the road). The free Glacier Park shuttle stops in Apgar Village at the Visitor's Center nearby. The motel was built decades ago and accommodations are very modest. The walls between the rooms of the motel are very thin and you can hear your neighbors. The rooms are not air conditioned, but a fan was provided, which did not help a lot when we were there in August 2022. Our view of the river was just outside the front window, which was nice. Unfortunately, we could not open that window for cross ventilation. if you like simple accommodations (a step above camping), then this is a more affordable accommodation in the park.

Great location to explore the park. Price reasonable. Stayed in cabin on riverside for four nights. Room not large but functional. Bathroom tight most especially the shower for larger individual. No room service, ie; changing towels, emptying trash, etc. Assuming due to Covid? No AC in room but was provided with box fan. Basically if you are a no frills type of person this is a great cost effective option to explore this beautiful park.

Agar Village Lodge is all about location. We stayed in the motel section, on the main road in Apgar. The accommodations were very clean and comfortable. The room size is cozy with queen size beds. Walls were a little thin but not a big issue because everyone seemed to go to bed around 10 pm. We parked right in front of our room. We could walk from our room to kayak/ bike rentals and back down the street to Lake McDonald. There's one restaurant, coffee/ gift shops walking distance too. We knew coffee shops did not open until 8 am so, we brought a small coffee maker for our room to have coffee before our early morning hikes. It was great to already be inside Glacier Park and not have to get in line to come through the main entrance for our hikes. We did head out a couple of times for dinner in Columbia Falls.

Amazing location at the south end of Lake McDonald. The Apgar creekside motel cabin is perfect for a cozy stay! The room was on the small side but perfectly clean and had a gorgeous view right out at the pristine water and lovely pine trees. We even saw a deer right outside our window one morning. It is a just a few steps away from the beach, shops, restaurant, ice cream, and kayak rental. The whole Apgar Village area has a great casual vibe with lots going on and people enjoying the park and lake. There is no coffee maker in the room, but is available in the hotel office, as well as at the little coffee shop starting at 7am. The shower has nice hot water and good water pressure, and shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, and lotion are all provided, as well as plenty of towels and a hair dryer. Before booking, I was worried about some of the negative complainy reviews I read. As soon as we arrived, saw how cute it was, and the friendly checkin staff greeted us, I knew those were nothing to worry about. Perhaps some people need to manage expectations when it comes to staying at a cabin in a park. The place was awesome and I would/will totally book this exact same place again for our next stay at Glacier National Park!

The vehicle reservation entrance starts at the end of Apgar village on Going- to- the- Sun Road. In theory no, you don't need to purchase a vehicle pass. But, if you want to explore beyond the village on the road, you will need to purchase a pass.
I just called. A kitchenette is supposed to have a full size fridge, a stovetop, no oven, a coffee maker and toaster - no microwave. There is also cookware, but based on reviews, it is limited. You can cook, just nothing too fancy.
Yes, the cabins have electric heat and plenty of blankets.
The heat wave had not yet hit Montana during our stay. The weather was comfortable. The room got cold over night but the heater in the room worked really well and heated up the room quickly.
